My guess Slosh is that it is a “live” mode and can be rendered as such. At least I am hoping so. It opens up all sorts of possibilities…I think it would be much easier to develope textures in this mode. You would be able to see how they are going to distort. Not that it couldn’t be done now it will just be easier that’s all.
This really looks great stuff, that’s going to make modelling work a whole lot easier.

I haven’t been able to see the new viewing mode in action yet, but my understanding is that the wireframe is always visible. Otherwise it would be little different from DOTS.
Regarding OS X, version 1.5 will initially run in Classic mode. We are developing a native OS X version, however, and hope to be announcing a release date for it shortly after the release of 1.5.
Just as it was needed. Again, cool.

Love this new tool!!!
Anybody else feel ten years old, waiting for Christmas?
THUNK! -Picking up jaw from floor----
Poly-frame  —need it bad!
Thanks for the preview, Pix! This is gonna be a low-poly texturer’s DREAM come true! You’re probably feeling pretty secure about the future of Zbrush right about now, aren’t you?

Thanks for the fast reply!
Okay, well seeing as v1.2 seems to work without a hitch in Classic mode, I won’t worry about it all that much. Glad to hear that an OS X native version is in the works though, as I’m trying to wean myself from Classic as much as possible. I’d assumed that was the case, but it’s always nice to get it confirmed.
And it’s always nice to see continued support for the non-OS-X people too!

Hadn’t noticed you here, Pres…!
Welcome to the Forum…

I suspect rather than a metaball tool, it probably works somewhat more like the “wax modeler” from Amorphium Pro, but with many improvements, of course.
Only time will tell and I can’t wait to find out.
I’ve been wrong before.
Either way, it’ll be a great new addition to ZBrush. Looks great!
Not posted much before, I have been sort of lurking around and getting a feel of Zbrush with the intention of using it for texturing Lightwave models.
One of the modeling tools most useful in Lightwave to add detail is the Smooth shift tool which allows selection of a group of polys and allows them to be bevelled as a group so as to add structure to the model. If this could be done interactively in real time via graphics tablet or mouse then that would be great. Do you think the new tool is something like this?
Wow! Looks like you have the figure modelling sussed!
If I may (and you haven’t already sorted it) I’d like to suggest a way to solve the “eye problem”…
I find it very hard to align the eyelids with the eyes. However, in “2d mode” I’ve noticed that it’s possible to draw a sphere and then you can use a brush to draw on top of it(ie it’s distorted by the shape of the sphere). Possibly this can be adapted to 3d modelling.
Also, It’d be good if you could designate objects as “eyes” and they will behave in this way or any way that an eye should (like rotate about the centre, etc)
Anyway, thanks for listening.
PS With such modelling power, it’s only a matter of time until you incorporate/branch out with animation…in my opinion.
Hi Makarel,
I’m looking at Zbrush for Lightwave too. Do you know of anyone that has imported / exported bewtween LW7 and ZBrush?
Phenomenal ZBrush work in the gallery
Hey Ken,
‘Welcome Neighbor’!
(And Ken B uses Lightwave so you should use the ‘Search’ function and check out his many incredible postings…He can probably help you out!
)
Hi Stonecutter,
Thanks for the hospitality! What a suprise
ZBrush looks like a terrific illustration app, and the community here is really cool.
Have a great Canada Day, eh?
Just to let you know the price tactic worked (for me). I’d been undecided about stumping up the cash for the prog (I really want the new Dreamweaver MX), but when I saw the price was about to go up, and the upgrade would be free … well. No contest. Good luck at your trade shows. I haven’t seen any reviews of your existing versions in the UK computer art mags I get. Hopefully you’ll now get some proper press attention.
Hello to all the Kens out there.
I’ve import/exported objects and images back and forth between Zbrush and Lightwave with no problems.
Like Stonecutter said, a search on this forum is a good place to start for examples, and also I wrote an article for 3D Artist #47 that covers working between the 2 programs.
Hello Ken B.!
I’ll be making the bookstore rounds today (Looking for Cinefex), and will look for your article. Also, the people at ZBrush are being very helpful as well.
Thanks!
Stonecutter: Thanks for the greeting - I’m still getting my bearings here…
Mark: Another one eh? Those sneaky tactics work, no doubt about that. I just payed up last night myself, and am a-waitin’ my permanent code.
Ken B: Oh yeah, the red…thing…(?) in 3D Artist! I’d totally forgotten about that - now I’ve got to go back and read the article with ZBrush in front of me!
