ZBrush 4R7: Released!

Well, that didn’t take long: I knew I’d get that kind of response on here. But frankly I’ve every right to be disappointed that I’ve paid for something and it’s not arrived.

I absolutely understand what pain a release like this might cause them, but they’ve had plenty of time to prepare for it. I like electronic delivery because I (usually) get the app or plug-in almost right away - so to have to wait ten hours, or quite possibly several days now, is just really disappointing. So maybe consider cutting me some slack.

I just want to join in the fun, y’know?

I feel your pain its o.k to let loose…

Oh – the reason I logged on.

Michael, I’m sorry about your father.

Hope the upgrade takes your mind off things.

Waiting to have fun like you guys are. During the upgrade it said i’ve exceeded my number of allowed computers and doesn’t recognize my laptop i use everyday. When i bought ZBrush I had a 2012 MAC book pro which I still have. Went through the process about 7 hours ago about submitting a case etc and it said would receive a response fixing whatever is wrong with my serial number. Still nothing from support. Was hoping to spent this weekend getting used to it. Enjoy the game folks :), guess Ill eat chips instead if making 3d chips lol.

@NealCrz

Ugh, that’s the worst. I’m so sorry. There are a number of legitimate issues with Mac installations they’re looking into, but that doesn’t do you any good now.

I never thought I’d be nostalgic for the days where they sent out the upgrade emails in staggered batches. You still had people sometimes waiting days to get their copy and throwing fits, but at least the path to the server was clear once you got the link, and the inevitable launch issues weren’t further complicated by server stress. Of course, if they go back to that system next time and I find myself on the wrong end of it, don’t remind me I said this.

Aight, my suspicions have been confirmed by the forum folks over at Keyshot.

While you can have two installations of Zbrush active ( say one workstation, one laptop ) and bounce between the two without having to activate / deactivate the license, only one instance of Keyshot can be active. This falls in line with how the commercial version of Keyshot works as well.

While you can have Keyshot software installed on multiple computers, only one of them will have an active license.* In order to move Keyshot from one to another, you need to have both systems on the internet. Deactivate the license on one, then activate it on the second one.

Wash / rinse / repeat any time you need to switch between the two.

*Assuming a single user license

"Paid for Keyshot and ZBridge ten hours ago, UK time, and nothing so far… Typical: I’m away for the weekend so won’t get to play. Harrumph.

EDIT: Ah man, just seen an earlier post where support tickets won’t get answered for DAYS! Amazing product, crap sales support."

Chuckle.

Small support staff is one of the reasons the upgrades are free  If they have to pay an army of support folks, we would be paying maintenance contracts, and every upgrade release would be $$. ( See every other major 3D platform out there )

Look at it this way, even if they have 100 support staff, they got hit with a TIDAL WAVE of tickets, phone calls, questions, anxiety, anger and the like. This happens every time Zbrush updates ( and has all the way back to the original release ) so don’t stress too hard over it. All will be well in time

Unless there is some sort of critical bug, then this will start all over again until it’s fixed lol

That is the pits. Since they’re making upgrades a priority (or so I read), maybe your issue will be resolved soon.

For those waiting for Keyshot serials/downloads…

I’m in the same boat, bought it last night, no sign of an email yet.

However, there is a 14 day trial available for both Keyshot and the Bridge.

Download and install Keyshot from Luxion’s site, the ZBrush edition is there. It can be installed and activated as a fully functional trial. In Zbrush, enable Keyshot as the rendered in the ‘Render’ menu then try to render something. It will complain that there is no license, but will give the option to get a 14 day trial. Accept it’s kind offer and click the link to register for and get it.

I’ve got it set up and working great on a Mac.

Cheers,
John.

Keyshot Across two computers Aight, my suspicions have been confirmed by the forum folks over at Keyshot.

Just to be clear it is possible to have Keyshot on a computer that is not on the internet. The activate and deactivate is a bit more complicated but it can be done. This is info I got from Luxion and they explained the process, which I mostly forgot as it’s a bit convoluted, but for some people’s work those restrictions are in place.

I just bought the upgrade for keyshot and never received a email or password to set it up. I tried calling zbrush head quarters…no one answered? Is anyone else having this happen…What should I do.The money has been taken from my account but I have no product

Brian

@nehumanuscrede Except for some of us are just waiting for a simple serial number and download link. You need 0 support staff for that.

There is no way that it is that hard to do and should be completely automated. Pretty much like any digital goods delivery (e.g. FetchApp). You order it, details are automatically emailed to you or at a minimum all required information you need to use the app are under your account.

  1. Here is your serial #
  2. Here is where you download it.

I have received neither.

Now I understand you need support for help with installing etc. but I have NOTHING to install. Not even a trial.

I am considering buying Zbrush tonight. Anyone know how long it has been taking to get activation codes? I would prefer to play with it this weekend.

With the 3D printer Expo and the rush of sales, I know things must be chaotic.

I am already on the fence about dropping $1K on a hobby. Which is why I have been waiting for 4r7 to make my choice. If I have to wait longer I may talk myself out of it.

Moderator’s Reply: It is currently taking approximately 36 hours for delivery emails to go out. We have tracked this to a throttling limit being imposed by our store’s ISP, which we are working to get lifted as quickly as possible. But at the moment, expect a 36 hour delay.

It was completely automated, and that’s why you need support staff now…to manually get the info to the people that need it. Some ISPs and webmail services aggressively filter mail at the server level. If they don’t like the way something is configured, especially auto mail, it won’t even make it to your spambox. This could be one thing that’s happening with the people who didn’t get links. They have to figure out why some people did and some people didn’t.

The server was also getting hammered when a lot of people were trying to order, so it may have just choked on some.

There are a lot of tickets, a limited number of support staff, a limited number of hours in the day. If it were as simple as pressing a button, and resending all the confirmation mails, they would have done it already. Like I said earlier, in previous releases a lot of people stilll wouldnt have had acess to the new update because of the need to stagger the batches so the system could handle it. And every update, it’s a drag when you’re one of the people still waiting.

It’s perfectly reasonable to be frustrated. But try to keep perspective.

Also, Support tickets are currently at a 16 hour queue. We are working as quickly as we can to resolve them and will continue working through the weekend. To be on the safe side, please expect up to two business days to receive a reply instead of our usual record of replying within one business day.

Thank you for your patience! We are working as quickly as we can but there is simply no way to avoid delays at this time.

Per Pixologic support page. I would assume anyone ordering will be required to wait.

I waited until this morning when the traffic had subsided, and had no problems. Downloaded, purchased, activated everything without issue.

However, there do seem to be a number of issues being reported with Mac installations, so depending on your platform you may want to hold off a few days until they get that sorted.

Just remember:

  1. Deactivate any Antivirus during Zbrush installation procedures.

  2. Read the front page of this thread carefully. If you’re interested in the Keyshot for Zbrush bundle, note that it consists of two separate and different items, that both need to be added to your cart for the discount.

These were two recurring issues tripping people up.

Edit: Just saw the support page update. Scratch my last statement.

@Bones I’m in the same boat. I bought ZBrush 4R7 and the KeyShot bridge. I spent $1044 USD for software but I’ve received no emails or software keys. I did finally receive an answer to my support ticket saying the email had been resent. For the second time, I did not receive it. I responded to the support ticket but no answer six hours later. It’s underwhelming. 24 hours later I’m out $1K with nothing to show for it.

It’s obvious there are a lot of customers experiencing the same difficulties. Perhaps there is something rather wrong. While I understand there may be difficulties, it would be great if Pixologic could be more communicative and give us some indication of what’s gone wrong and when we can expect a solution.

Ok Im with you guys. But this is feedback for Pixologic.

So if it’s an email issue (filtering etc.) then why not just add the serial number and download link to your profile - in your receipt? Or add your serial number and download link in the support ticket when support reviews it, instead of trying to email it to you again?

I submitted a ticket because I wasn’t able to update due to a prompt stating that my serial was no longer valid. Not frustrated about it though because every time they put out a new version there’s that trample through the gates to download and right now the staff is overwhelmed. Pixologic always pulls through for people and unfortunately there is a priority based place in line for everyone. They will get to each of us as soon as they can.

FYI: I just received the following message from a support ticket at 5:15 pm PST:I have just learned that the store’s outbound server is under a 36 hour backlog. The emails aren’t lost – the first one is still about 16 hours from actually being sent.
Matthew Yetter
Pixologic ZBrush Support Manager

For me the issue is resolved. The support manager manually pasted in my download links and serial number into my support ticket. I hope the same happens for the rest of you soon.

Oh good an email backlog ?

Because not only did I pay for the Keyshot Bridge software and still have -no- receipt emailed, and -no- download links…

But also when I tell Pixologic support to please email me my password, as it doesn’t seem to work, their ‘auto recover password’ emails also are not coming to my email either!

Definitely in the dark, hopefully the backlog clear out.
