wip (nudity)

LOL! this is soo great!! nice work dude!

ZBrush Document1.jpg

Im working on a gnarly old T rex for a client and I thought I would post some WIP shots. Its made from Z speres (as thats all i know how to do) and If anyones interested, I can make the initial z spere model availiable if anyone wants a go at sculpting one. My dimentions are all taken from accurate copies of a T Rex monograph and im in the very odd position (and nerve wracking) of having my work approved …or not…by a significant Dino expert.

very nice use of zspheres. i find he looks more like an raptor i dunno why cant get the feeling for his mass at the moment. im not a dinosaur specialist but maybe his hip is too far up and that makes him look so raptorish anyways good work and have fun finishing him

Nice start, i really like the overall proportions, very dinosaur/bird like, as far as crits go, it’s a bit lumpy in some places, maybe you could bring out the features some more, especially around the head, the toes still need some work, the chest could be thinner, as well as the pectoralis major and deltoids, the alien female is nice as well, you could definitely fix the neck though, otherwise nice start man, keep it up.

Thanks Guys. Still early stages yet and so much more to do.

That is an awkward pressure. If the dude is nice he can be really helpful. If he is not the work becomes dicey. As for proportions you’ll have to be careful and just make them like your client says they should be.

Thanks Hyper,

I know im up against it having “an expert” breathing over my shoulder but my hope would be that it helps me make something other than the obvious percieved T Rex image. Already I have had crits about placement of hips…size of chest etc. All of this I will have to ignore as Im being fed information and dimentions from science and not “Jurrassic Park”. The muscles Im building are based on scars on the skeletal specimin that clearly show muscle attatchment areas.

Fingers crossed that something cool looking comes out of this.

That is looking incredibly good, i know how early stages can be but just stay focused. I would definatly love to use the base mesh to try and dish one out =). Thanks so much.

Look forward to seeing what the “expert’s” version of this turns out looking like. I do not envy you on this one.

Just trying out some texture tests on the T Rex.

Just “struggled” through Peter Jacksons Kong for the second time. What were they thinking. I thought I would re create the slightly confusing brontosaur stampede.

lol Squish! ‘struggled’? I really liked the Pete jackson King Kong, the bugs in it were cool, and the ‘V-Rex’ they came up with too

Hi Capital…Im old school Kong. I love the old black n white classic. If it aint broke…dont fix it.

A quick update on the T rex pose.

NICE WORK~~! :+1:

Thats truly amazing.
What a good model.

That’s a good looking T-rex…wonder what the experts will say?
I checked out the whole thread and you have made some great critters.

Thanks for the comments guys.

This really is the most frustrating project Ive done in years. I have a “Team” of Palaentologists checking everything I do and I get a list of contadicting comments twice a week by e mail. I have to try and condense the information and pick out the relevant and complimentary matching comments and apply them to the model. The only good thing is that I have a book publishers deadline of the end of the month to get Rex finished as a peice of cover art so that may help focus the academics.

This is the last image I can post of this creature until the programe goes out on Nat geo and the book is published. I just signed a confidentiality agreement that restricts what Im allowed to show.

I do appreciate the positive feedback on this site. After a 15 hour z brush session when your eyes are stinging and your hearts beating too fast from too much coffee, its so cool to get a positive message or two from the only people I respect.

Thanks,
