Holy Tamolies!!!..I just discovered ā€œbest Renderā€ for the first time. Where was that hiding all this time?.

This is the rather wonderful bone material kindly supplied by that most excellent of chaps who is sculpting the skeleton.

his name is aron lewis. aaah it happens to everyone and one day u will discover the P key and so many other things… great head btw. :+1:

This is a really fun character! In addition to Best Render try doubling your screen size draw your and then hit the AAHalf button then draw your character on the screen at Best Render with the settings that you have on this last post. You’ll get some wonderful anti-aliasing plus your new discovery  .

Nice job, love the wrinkles and texturing.

Thanks AA Ron. Always appreciate crits from you. This was a rushed project to try to prove I could maybe supply illustrative images for a friends short story. I had until 7pm this evening to get an image e mailed to the powers that be.

Again z brush came through for me and all of the people on this site without whose help and support I would still be prodding holes in a basic sphere.

I like the camera angle on the last render. The only thing I might suggest is to darken the gums a bit.
How much post work in photoshop are you planning on doing (any filters and such)?
Good work :+1:

i like the last render as well … good details on the face

Thanks for the comments.

Im in an odd position with this whole z brush situation in that I made the leap to z brush after 20 or so years as a traditional sculptor and in many ways I feel like a fraud. Z brush is wonderful for granting access to the computer world to artists who ordinarily wouldnt stand a chance as its so instinctive to use. There is a down side though in that I recognise that I am working in a world and industry where i havent ā€œPaid my duesā€ as it were. I am happily modelling and subdividing without a care in the world or even a basic understanding of what a displacement map is (or what its for…though im pretty sure they are important).

I have a number of sculpting jobs in the pipeline and I have to rely on the formidable technical skills of some associates of mine to take my work further. I fumble and stumble about with poly painting in z brush but thats as far as I get. I have only recently started using photoshop and what seems quite normal to many of you simply leaves me bemused and confused. I do often ā€œstareā€ at the layers section of photoshop but rarely do I go further. Its only after seeing what you guys have been doing that I realise I need to maybe take a few steps back to re group and learn some of the basics.

I hear ya, I too feel like I am cheating the traditonal way of 3D modeling (not fully or halfway understanding normal maps, displacement maps and UVs), but its fun to just sculpt haha. Dont worry about photoshop, its a small rolly hill compared to some of the mountainous things in Zbrush. There are plenty of tut/video tutorials online. Keep it up!

Just messing with some feather effects on my raptor. The needed effect is similar to ostritch plume without flight feathers. If anyone has any ideas?.

Very good!

Very nice! Id say thats pretty convincing but you could probably take that into photoshop and add some small wispy feathers or blur areas, etc. Other than that you could do a hair simulation in another 3d app (I dont know the official name)…but thats way beyond on me haha.

The other option is to actaully model feathers, like seen on this page;
http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=39948&highlight=eagle

You could do a slight variation of that and only make feathers in certain ares overtop of your current model. Just some food for thought

Very nice feather work on the raptor, i think youv captured the overall look and feel of the fluff!

I think I just saw that dino on the science channel! Very nice work indeed. I like the pose of this dino too.

Could you post the zsphere layout of the microraptor?

Never fear the z spheres…
