Nice job with the final. I totally understand about wanting to move on to another thing. My only critique would be that overall the entire thing feels a bit too shiny in some areas and perhaps not enough in others. I would think the majority of the victim’s skin would be rather dull and the inside of the parasite/edges of skin and other bits be sort of glistening wet. Pretty much what you have but less specularity on the skin of the victim in most areas. Just a thought in case you do re-visit this.

Otherwise looking forward to whats next!

To echo the sentiments of other replies, I felt inspiration has been garnered from ‘The Thing’, not that, that takes anything away from the creativity or execution of this fabulous piece of artwork, as I am deeply inspired by your visionary realisation.

Keep up with the perpetually inspiring masterpieces.

Hey thanks very much, guys. I really appreciate the feedback.

The Thing: Actually, I wasn’t thinking of that at all and only noticed it myself when the sculpt was fairly far along. The idea was a corpse that has been ingested from the inside by a growing creature, and then is rotting away at the same time. The idea came from the way some insects reproduce by laying eggs on a live, paralyzed victim that then grows inside the paralyzed insect, feeding off it as it grows.

The similar aesthetic of the Thing’s broken and corroded human form with nasty creature bits is undeniable, and Rob Botin’s original work was a conceptual revelation for me, so it’s very likely it influenced the concept, even if only on an unconscious level.

Figment: Totally makes excellent sense. Very good comments. I just think I’m through with this guy and need to move on. Too much else I have to work on, and I am sooo ready to start a new piece of my own.

Hey all. Here’s a personal piece I’ve done. I’m a huge fan of classic sci-fi artist Frank R. Paul (look him up if he’s new to you – great stuff). This idea was sort of done with his sort of aesthetic on my mind. I originally had intended to do this poly-painted and then developed in to a fully rendered scene as I usually do, but I may just move on. Time will tell.
Anyway, it’s a tentacle-like-armed alien in a hi-tech chair-type thingy

Very nice Job … keep up the good work!

cheers, David

This work reminds me of the character Kreng. From ninja turtles.
And I was reminded of the game Prey. In any case, it turned cool.

Thanks, guys.
ciei3, I must confess I’ve never heard of either Kreng, or that game. The only thing I was thinking about while working on this, inspiration/influence wise was Frank R. Paul.

Wow.really nice work good job.

I like your retro alien and I hope that you do polypaint him and put him in a scene.

Thanks, guys. very much appreciated.

Rick, I’ll surely try – it’s more a factor of available time.

Hi gang. OK, I painted up and rendered this character from about a week ago. Painted, textured and rendered in Zbrush.

Comp work as well as background and special effects done in Photoshop. Not altogether satisfied with these, but I have to move on.

As the character here was sort of inspired by the art of Frank R Paul, I decided to stay with a bright, loud color palate for both the alien and his chair. Crits and comments always welcome 768_max.jpg965_max.jpg

THIS IS GREAT!!!
I love this guy, hes fantastic and the colors are terrific!

How long did it take, and what parts (if any) are not ZBrush?

Its sooooooo good!

Wow, thanks very much. The background and special effects were created in photoshop – entirely 2D.

The creature , the chair-vehicle, painting and rendering was all done in Zbrush. Comped the passes in Photoshop, which are the two images with no background at all – all just the comped Zbrush passes.

the polypainting was done in a about 3 - 5 hours and the creation of the 2 final rendered images with backgrounds were both done on the same day.

the sculpting was done over about a week in spare time while working on other projects.

Thank you for that, I was curious because Im just starting to mess about with compositing things and since you aid that you composited it I was curious about specifically which bits were what… I know you said “from a week ago” but I wasn’t sure what that meant.
To me this looks like it took ages.

Anyhow its gorgeous and I would love to see more!

Thanks, very much. I posted the finished tool, unpainted last week on a different thread and then didn’t have time to work on a finished render until around Monday sometime.

For some reason I decided to create a Hulk in my spare time… I know, how original of me?. It’s a piece I’ve picked up and put down over the past few weeks when I had the time.

I wanted to see how extremely hypertrophied muscle and the attendant vascular system might look before it starts to look ridiculous or creature-like (or maybe I already passed that point). I should have wondered about how long it takes to make all the little loose fibers of his pants – then I might have chosen to model something else.

I still have some tweaking to do and then polypainting and final render, but it’s far enough along to show.

Wow! beautiful work man.
