Squiddy WIP

Very Cool. This character really looks like it would benefit from the new mesh extraction for creating his outer shell. But then. I guess everyone’s characters would benefit from that

Nice work :+1:

It reminds me of the aliens from the show megas XLR.

He looks similiar to the movie one except the lack of the big wings and webbed fingers. Stop motion monsters are great. I dunno why they had to stop using them. That quirky stuttery motion is really creepy. Although I will admit to them being hard to animate. One mistake and you have to start from the beginning again.

looking very cool insane detail…I was picturing a larger bunch of tentacles attached to a small kinda body (sure your sick of tentacles …) but the body also looks insane in the last image …top work:+1: not sure if I missed this but are all the tentacles instances or did u model the suckers for each tactical??

Brainplug, Yeah, I thought the same while looking at the 2.5 videos. The brain boggles at what could be done with all the new gadgets. Even the fact that we should be able to work with 22 million polygons is, in itself, damn good. I have half (maybe quarter) of a mind to wait until the new update comes out to finish this one off. Probably a bad idea to wait though.

Freakish, Never heard of that series. :| Womball, Indeed. Although we do get the odd stunning use of stop motion now and again. Last one being Corps Bride. Hasn’t a film studio bought the rights to Harryhausen’s films? Although they will probably be CG versions of the classics. FoOD, Yes, please no more tentacles! I’m not even happy with the ones in that last image. I would add more tentacles to the torso but I’m not sure if I can push the poly limit that much further. I used the Move in edit mode (with the transform curve changed) to pull out the suckers. Wish I had 2.5 as I could have done a better job with that kind of detail. Anyways, I’ve been working on this sucker a bit still. Not worth posting an update as it’s more tweaking and trying to stop the fingers from drooping by adding some edge loops to make the finger geometry denser. Also trying him to look fat with the limited photo ref that I could find) is a tough one. MX

okay, i’m gonna bandwagon this one because it is un-efing-believable! I can not wait to see some texturing on this bad boy!

Nearly missed this update! This looks marvelous mate  Please keep the updates coming.

Could we possibly see how squiddy would look with the original body you sculpted? This one, although great, is quite different to the first sculpt you showed us.

Angelstein, to tell you the truth… I can’t be arsed to apply the old body to the head. Just too much work and I’m lazy.

Anyway, I have been… lazy and watching lots of films, going tot he pub (it's festival time in Edinburgh so must be done). Also sorting out a new job. YAY! Here’s another of the body with some detail and a bit of texture (arms and feet are still just flat shaded). I’m trying to think of other detail to add to the body to make it more interesting. All I can think of at the moment are barnacles and ermm… those cone shaped things that you find on the rocks by the sea. This’ll probably still need a lot of tweaking. My first time texturing a high poly character. First time I’ve got this far, full-stop. :|

Feedback is welcome as normal. MX

No prob matey, I get like that sometimes, more often than not to be quite honest! I’ve been telling myself I’ll go to the Edinburgh festival every time it passes by, but haven’t been till it yet! I live on the English side of the Border region, overlooking the Solway firth  Anyways, you enjoy yourself mate

As for your model, great work as always. I’m no expert, but so far this is pro quality work all the way :+1:

Nice work man!

Awesome work !!
I’m really enjoying watching this progress.
Please keep this going !!

what happened to this guy!?!?! any progress?!?!?!?!?!?!?:cry:small_orange_diamond:cry:small_orange_diamond:cry:small_orange_diamond:cry:small_orange_diamond:cry:

What?! Huh?!

Oh yeah, sorry. I lost the plot a little with this one but I’m more or less on track again (partially down to seeing [Jgary](http://member.php?u=46876) [post](http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=037433) and how he put his great image together in PS). I’ve been trying to do some texturing for the head and body and also trying out adding more detail (like starfish, seaweed, barnacles and other shells) but the small details that these have are not coming through when applied to the main models… so I’m going to add them to the final render on a separate layer. The texturing is going slowly as I’m using the texture manager and ZappLink coupled with rendering out flats images of the model with black cavity shading to overlay it in PS as an aid of selecting detail. I can’t wait for ZB2.5 to speed things up. I am also trying to work out the composition of the final image and what pose to use. Reference perused through so far is Mapplethorpe and Brom. Hope to post an update when it starts coming together. MX

Look foward to seeing the results!!

I wouldn’t get to carried away in details. Probably a sinster looking walk over human skulls would suffice. The lighting doesn’t need to be too strong either or you could go for a lighting strike of lighting. You really never see the monsters that clearly in H.P Lovecrafts work, which makes them much more effective. The parts that aren’t clearly visible should be seen in silloutte (sic). These could be the barnacles and other growths. They could create ghastly looking shadowy objects.

They eyes and tentacles should be clearly visible though. The pose you had before look great! I think that could work.

I thought I’d post something… well… it’s still just a basic render with basic material and no background… etc.

Anyway, here it is some kinda pose close what the final image is going to be like (but then again I may change, who knows). There is a bit of detail that I have to go back into as it’s vanished or distorted in the process of posing. So yeah, still quite a bit of work to do on him.

As always, feel free to criticize away. :) Womball, Skulls, huh?! Hm… I may put one in his hand. :) MX

I love it,please keep working on it! and of course post it!!
I like a lot the head and hands and the colors.
arturo

Excellent work! I’m looking forward to the rest of the character.

Lookin’ good man! I’m still going to poke fun at the suckers onthe tentacles though - they look like cheerios! The starfish look cool, sorta like tattoos. Perhaps the tentacles need a little more life. Just some thoughts, but stick with your ideas, it’s a lot of work thus far.

As for crits…The barnicals look a bit spotty and need to blend in more with the body and the body looks plain in comparison to the rest of the figure. But this is still a WIP so I’m sure your thinking about those issues already.

The only other thing I can say is…
PHE-NO-MI-NAL!!!

The arms are just awesome! Well thought out and designed. The head is inspirational! Truely motivating me to get my @$$ in gear and do something.

I can’t wait to see this finished.

This is rendered in ZBrush?
