ShadowBox: adventures with intricate alphas...

Hey Bio!

Really sorry to hear about your job, but I’m sure you will find a new one soon! About the matcaps I do agree with polaroid29, it is not greedy to make money of what you create! It is greedy to expect someones work for free, especially these matcaps which are among the best matcaps I seen:) Keep going and don’t lose faith!

Peace

hi biodesigner, man you have some really nice materials going on here … where is the donate button …i would pay for sure …they are worth it!

…i hope you´ll find a new job soon …all the best!

regards

Yeah where is that donate button? Id click it too!

Hi John, been a while since we both spoke. Sorry, had to do alot with me moving from working nights to days and just getting adjusted to the whole thing (hence why I have not posted in some time). However, I did catch some bad news on your end at this post. I hope things are better if not, have faith my brother, we both know life throws some sticks into our wheels, but, we fall, pick up the bike and keep on going right?

I don’t know exactly what your going through but, just to let you know, I have survived the stress of going to war, a divorce, the death of my first best friend, seperation from my children (not anymore, we see each other alot now-no I was not in prison, just a long complex story there as well) and a bunch of little other stresses that come and go. I just do the best that I can everyday and try not to think about the negetive things in my life. It’s why I like coming up here to the boards, I relieve my stress looking at other artists work.

So, just hang in there, things WILL GET BETTER! And remember… life MUST go on!

If any thing, here is a quick little story (just trying to help you think the cup IS half full-;))… my current wife (a new and improved wife-:D…see, this story starts off great already right-:D) lost her job last year. She had been out of work for 7 months. Getting depressed of course. Found a job, the hiring manager promised her full time work etc. Well, first day she goes in and the manager tells her that the job is only part time and only three to four days a week-maybe. Well, that did not work out of course (oh ya, that manager got an ear full from me you can bet.) Anywho, here is my poor wife all depressed thinking no one wants her. I told her that the reason that job did not work out for her was cause the good Lord had something better for her and did not want her there. One week later, she was hired on at a day care. OK you say. Well, for those of you that don’t think GOD exsist, here is the punch line or moral of the story (or something like that), we have a four year old child, could not start regular school just yet, I started working in the AM, we have ONE car, and could not afford day care on my salary alone. Well, GOD gave her the job at the day care- ONE: Wife gets job, TWO: she can take our 4 year old with her to work (it’s a day care), THREE: we don’t have to pay day care as it’s one of the benefits and FOUR: her job is only five minutes walking distance from our house (she won’t need the car-for rainy days, she can just call a cab). So, hang in there John and have Faith or simply (if your not religious) have faith in yourself, something better WILL come along.

Saul (Dragon)

PS: I was going to PM this message to you, but just thought, if there is anyone else out there going through something challanging as well, hope this might help.

Keep it moving bio-designer…

Man I want to give you a note of encouragement and say that your first idea for the Shadowbox tutorial was great, & I would really like to see it!

Hope your long silence is recovery and positive things are happening your way.

Hi There

Well its been over 4 months since i first offered to upload these MatCaps and I’m glad to say they are ready, Ive packaged them up and when I get a response from Melissa Zalinski at Pixologic i’ll upload them. They will then sort it out from there…

Im gonna wait a couple of days and if I don’t hear from Pixologic I’ll put ther links in this thread

To anyone who’s remotely interested I’m sorry for the long delay - it’s just i’ve had massive problems that I’ve never experienced before in my life and it has been a very difficult time for me, I have had no chance to do any design work at all…

I’ll not go into details but the last straw was that I had to sell my computer worth £2000 for £145 just to pay a weeks rent to avoid being kicked out on the street…

As a result, I’m using my friends computer to do the rest of the work that is needed to make these downloads possible

My problems are still not over but i’m just trying to get on with things and hope that there is light at the end of this very, very long tunnel.

The MatCaps that im providing can be used in a personal and commercial capacity so I am going to implement a ‘donate’ button somewhere, perhaps linked from this thread and any monies (if any) received will be used to fund a new computer to replace the one I lost… so if you are going to use them for commercial purposes please consider a donation, it will be appreciated more than you’ll ever know

I would be grateful if somebody could give me hints and tips on the best way to do the ‘donate’ thing as I’ve not done it before.

Thanks

Jon

I forgot to add that there will be 3 sets of MatCaps, not 2… each containing 9 .ZMT files - thats a total of 27 Matcaps

I will post a preview image of the third set shortly

Jon

Everything will work out! Just hang in there. I know times are unbelievably tough right now, I’ve been there myself twice already

There is a light, the tunnel will end, and you will be in a good spot when it is all said and done! Every one appreciates your work and it is amazing! I hope you overcome these challenges fast and you land back on your feet even faster! I’ll definitely help out as much as I possibly can.

Good luck, Jon

hi jon,

i really hope you´ll find a job soon and everything returning to normal …

for the ‘donate’ thing … do you have a paypal account … if not make one (no risk - paypal is great) and go to this site

https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/?cmd=_donate-intro-outside

it is pretty easy that way … i hope this helps

i will donate
all the best
oliver

Here is the preview image for the 3rd set…

matcap-previews-set-iii.jpg

Ive just realised that I have enough new renders for a 4th and final set - i’ll stick a preview image up shortly…

I’ve had no response from Melissa Zalinski as yet, although the e-mail was just sent yesterday… If anyone from Pixologic is watching this thread can you please contact me either via email or through ZBC as I only have use of a computer for a short length of time…

J

Bio…were not all free loaders bud. Its called a community for a reason. Add a donate button…if thats too difficult then simply supply your email associated with your paypal. You may well be pleasantly surprised and it could well and truelly dig you out of your present predicament.

Just share the mat caps.

Ministerart… Yeah, thanks - ive already got the donate page setup on some server space ive had for years - i’ll put the link on this thread when my MatCaps are downloadable.

I hope that Pixologic gets in touch soon and sends me the info so I can upload to their FTP server - then i imagine they’ll stick them straight up…

Like i said in an earlier post, if they dont contact me again shortly i will just put them on here…

J

Ok, here is a preview of some of the MatCaps on a character…

These were just viewport preview renders exported out and an Ambient Occlusion pass composited in Photoshop…

Apologies as the image is quite wide and long…

J

As always - fantastic matcaps…

did you check your PM?

Bio, I hope you are doing better, you 've done a fantastic work with those materials and I agree share with us the donate option to give you a hand in what we can.

Yeah, its not lookin good though - not sure if you read my previous post, but I had to sell my computer, so i’m not sure whether or not I can get it done for you…

The only reason I can get these MatCaps ready and available is most of the donkey work (rendering) had already been done months ago

J

Hey There, thanks for the comment and the offer of a donation, thats very kind of you…

This is a greasy orange plastic with microscratches that will be going into the final 4th set…

J

Hey Bio I hope everything levels back out for you soon!!
You’ve got some very high level materials here and I think it’s amazingly generous that you are still sharing them given your current situation.
I will be donating what I can spare to show my appreciation. Just show me where man…
BTW those micro scratches look awesome on the Greasy Orange Plastic. Wow!

sorry to hear that everything is going the wrong for you atm.
i hope that all the kind replies here can be of some comfort.

you got some fantastic work, dude.

on a personal note… i really hope those matcaps will be up soon… looks so cool.
