Questions & Troubleshooting for ZBrush 4R5

So, here are a solution for my problem :slight_smile:

It solves the problem when i deactivate the texture!.. what?!
Yes, i can work with the polypaintet subtools, but witout a textured. It’s a workaround for me.

Applying the displacementmap is bringing back the original rotation of the subtool.

Thank you to Paul from Australia posting visuals on his error, and the person who answered his question so fast. I was able to clean install my ZBrush without any further issues at all.

Also, thank you Aurick for having this one stop area for troubleshooting, and being there for us.

I know not all companies like the idea of message board posting for problem solving, but to me, it seems to just speed up the process of asking for and receiving timely help. Or being able to find and answer before having to post for help. :slight_smile:

So far I have been able to repeat this every time.

  1. Select Cube3D, draw on canvas, enable Edit mode, Make Polymesh3D.
  2. Subdivide to level 4 then Ctrl+Z back so there are no SubD levels, then subdivide again. Crash!

It is because of the Undo History, because if you ā€˜Delete UH’ after you Ctrl+Z back to 0 SubD levels you can then subdivide again without it crashing.

zber2: I’m unable to reproduce here. Maybe I’m doing it wrong. Tried several times. Maybe there’s some magic ingredient(a setting). Did you use the initialize panel to set divisions first? Is save undo enabled in both prefs and file?

If someone can give me an idea of where to look for a setting that needs to be change to keep R5 from crashing would be greatly appreciated.

I have a iMac i5 mid 2011. Gig g card 12G ram. Running Mountain lion. But for some reason when I get into a total count of about 2.5 mil or so it crashes…

please let me know what you guys and gals think please.

The dynamic brush is AWESOME! Except…how do I turn it OFF when I want to? I’ve searched the documentation pdf and can’t find it. Can it even be done? It’s sweet for making fine details, but for rough sculpting, zooming in and out and having the brush change size with it was just…natural. It’s one of my favorite things about Zbrush.

Hi all, I upgraded to 4R5 last week and I started using it today and noticed a weird display problem. These white ā€œlinesā€, that appear to be geometry, just happen to be displaying on my model, even when I rotate it. They will somehow remain fixed, but move to another part of the model. Please see images. I checked my textures and polypaint menus, and there is nothing that indicates it’s a texture problem. I restarted the program, and the glitch remains. Has anyone else experienced this issue with the new upgrade? I’m really hoping a patch is released soon.

if i try to paint on a layer, it has no effect.
Workflow: set the brush to RGB 100% and activate the Zadd button by an intensity of 0%. with this settings and an alpha can i paint my model.

Workflow2: set the brush to RGB 100% and activate the Zadd button with 0% and adding a layer. With a layer i can’t paint my model!

It’s only one click to add a layer, and i’m sure, i cant make an error (mistake or so).
I have one simple model (one subtool) in my scene with 809 points and without extravagant accessories. no texture, no masking, no polygroups… and so on.

Is aware of this problem abd has anyone had similar experiences?

Hmpf… The Inflat-Brush can’t paint the color to a layer :frowning:
With the standard-brush it is works fine.

I get this every time after I have Undo (Ctrl+Z) a couple of times then go to subdivide the mesh. Answer OK to error and it crashes to desktop. I hope this gets fixed in the next update.

Just did it twice in a row, once with sphere and once with cylinder. Same error.

Hello, everyone! Zbrush 4R5 sometimes crashes when I press Tool=>Save As… And just before crash it says something about incomplete installation. I’ve used Full Install, so it seems like a bug…

the palettes in ZB r5 on my mac behave differently from all previous version of ZB. When I open a sub-palette it automatically closes any open sub-palettes. Is there a way to reset the behavior of the sub palettes so that I can have as many open as I want, like previous versions of ZB?

JD. I had the same thing. If I’m not mistaken, those are simply incomplete curves, I dragged mine out of the main mesh using one of the curve brushes, then deleted the generated geometry.

I get this error, too. Projection Master does not work at all. Here is a screenshot of the error:

QUESTION:
How-where do I access (get/use) the guide brush for Q-Remesher?
I am using 4R5
When I Click the curve sensitivity or any other curve related tool in Q-Remesher I get this flag =

When I go to the plug-ins at Pixologic, there is nothing at all about a Q-Remesher plug in…
