Questions & Troubleshooting for ZBrush 4R5

I just dealt with that issue here before the update. What I did was open RegEdit and seek out every place it said the older version and replace it with the newer one. Hafta be careful though, things can go wrong.

Cool, it worked. Thanks Loopy!

Does this mean I will not be able to install ZB4R5 on my XP system?
I have installed and have been running ZB4R4 on XP for quite a while
(same since ZB3)
While I understand Pixologic “does not support Windows XP” - - -
For Various reasons I’m not able to upgrade to a new OS for now and do all of the clean installs required.
(Yes, all of my software is legal, just decades of upgrades and issues finding clean install discs)

I am interested in this as well.

Try it. If it works, you’re lucky, if it doesn’t, there’s nothing anyone can really do. Its getting to the age where even Microsoft is dropping support for it.

I tried it and it doesn’t work, it makes things twitch but that’s about it.
Having this ONE seemingly simple feature would change ZBrush in such an amazing way that not having it seems absurd.
The only other use I can think of for it would be sliding the pallets up and down in the trays but that doesn’t work either.

So is this working for everyone else?

Mike

Hello Mike

This is working fine on my side with OSX. Try this exercise.

  1. Select the Cylinder3D
  2. Make that a PolyMesh
  3. It now has one PolyGroup. Click on the Groups by Normals now. You will notice that the top and bottom caps each get a PolyGroup. The middle will also get it’s own PolyGroup. This is because the default angle is set to 45. This is telling ZBrush that where the angle of polygon change is 45 degrees or higher apply a polygroup.
  4. Now drop the Angle to 10 and click the Groups by Normals.
  5. Notice that all the polygon rows of the cylinder will receive a polygroup. This is because the degree of change between each row is greater then 10 degrees.

This feature works great with hardsurface models and with the Crease by PolyGroup. I found a very useful and fast workflow with these two options.

Let me know if this helps.

Hello ArtBot

This is because the folders that LightBox sees is only the folders or shortcuts that have been placed in the version root folder. For example you have placed a folder in the ZBrush4R4/ZBrushes folder so you can see this folder when ZBrush launches. This update creates a new ZBrush4R5 folder. You just have to move your custom folders to this new root folder.

Thank you. That works perfectly. Cannot work out where I was going wrong but its all working now.

Mike

This is seriously cool, I have wanted to be able to do something like this for a while and didn’t even know it.
Gabo I cant thank you enough for this bit of information, but THANK YOU!

Cheers!

Hello Aurick & mates,

Hi Gabo, Thanks for getting back to me. …
just a minute here! I just did a check and now everything is popping up. Maybe I needed to restart my Mac, which I did. In any case “The Grinch who stole my Brushes” seems to have left the building!

Sorry and thanks again.

Pixologic: Thanks for the info. I’ll need to stick with 4r4 unfortunately, until this problem is fixed, as I’m using zApplink quite a bit. I look forward to the fix.

I have NVIDIA GTX 670 with 4GB memory on board

BUT!!!
Zbrush 4R5 works REALLY SLOW
The interface I mean, spin model (15K poly) is really annoying… Rotates with discrete delay… =(((((

And Z4R4 - works FINE the same time.

Unless things have changed with 4R5. The following would apply.

In 4R5; I have 7+ mil polys on my screen right now, no noticable delay when scaling, moving or rotating the view, at all. There are some settings in preferences. Mine are still at the default.

I found a post for a much older zbrush '06 I believe.
They talk about a zscript for this, Ill give it a whirl and see if it works on this version.
Ill let you know what happens.

*Update, dead horse…

Hello,

Automatic update gives an error message:

No update.ini file found at C:\Program Files (x86) Pixologic\ZBrush 4R4/update .ini

Check for updates in the program says ZB is up to date.

Downloading the full installer is extremely slow, even on my broadband connection it would take more than an hour.
So I canceled the download.

Does someone have a solution to the upgrade error?
