I would run a diagnostic on my hard drive to see if there any bad sectors, It could be writing to a bad spot on the drive
causing the data to be corrupt when reading back the memory. run Optimize/defragment hard. Plus you should have at lest
8gb free hard drive space when running Zbrush. I know it takes up that much on my computer, and when I don’t it tells
me to save cause it ran out of hard drive space or something. I don’t know what it would say on a windows computer.
Thank you very much for your efforts. The computer is brand new I got it last week, Zbrush is installed on an SSD drive with lots of free space there should not be any bad sectors. Where in the Zbrush folder is that virtual memory data?
vmem
I tried Sculpting and rendering a polymesh with over 14 million points or a dynamesh resolution of 1024 with out any Problems. I get that error only when I add surface noise or fibermesh and close the programm. By the way that vmem text files are all empty.
.txt file empty? should be .mem, they are made when zbrush is running.
Oh, I see. When its closed there is just an emty text file. But as you can see from the screenshot it looks like Zbrush writes data to that folder.
I’m sure the answer to this is painfully simple. but I can’t find it anywhere in the wiki or documentation.
I’m assuming if I want to render everything on the screen I can press the “Render” button instead of the “Cursor” one
But nothing is happening when I do that.
Any ideas?
hi, I’ve played a few time with curve tube for making eyelashes.
Though the tool is overall ok, there is 3 behaviors that I think is not right or counterproductive:
1- The more I adjust the curve, the more its length shorten by its root. it’s subtle but it shortens.
so I always have to go back and forth between repositioning the root and readjusting the curve.
2- The curve profile changes wherever I click on the curve (size button ‘on’).
I think the curve profile should only represent the curve of its falloff no matter where I click on the curve.
Changing the curve profile wherever and each time I click makes it difficult to position it right.
I really see no benefit in the actual behavior of the tool.
3-The size of the stroke is zoom dependent.
Though it’s ok for the brush size to be zoom dependent, I don’t think it should be the same with the size of the curve stroke.
Again, makes it harder to position things right when the thickness of the stroke changes according to how far/close I look at the model.
Maybe the curve should have it’s own size slider or make a button to lock the brush size no matter the zoom level.
thanks for reading.
Okay, I’m not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but here goes:
I have been watching several tutorials regarding the “Spotlight” feature"-- but when I try to follow them in my ZBrush, I cannot get the “spotlight” thing to activate. One tutorial says to access it from “here” (the texture pallette to the left of the screen) and another says to activate it from “there” (the pull-down texture menu), but no matter which I try, the spotlight does not activate.
If I click on the pull-down texture menu, there is a box labeled “Load Spotlight”-- and when I click on it, ZBrush apparently looks for some file with a “.zsl” extension-- however, I’ve done a search and there ARE no files on my system with a “.zsl” extension.
I’m about ready to pull my hair out, and any help would be appreciated.
For the record, I have ZBrush 4R3 installed. All the upgrades and installs seemed to work just fine, so I’m at a total loss as to why this Spotlight thing is not working.
— ADDED LATER—
Oh, jeez-- disregard this post. I finally got it to work! Well, at least I think I did… we’lll see.
I really, really, REALLY wish the people who do video tutorials would make sure they include EVERY step required to do something. I know, from having written tutorials myself, that if you’re used to using a program or feature, it’s VERY easy to leave out a lot of little steps that you’re so used to performing that you don’t even realize you’re laving them out-- and I think this is what happened here.
I have problems creating a custom UI in Zbrush 4R3.
When I make one and restart the program, some buttons are gone…
Looks like the same problem in 4R2.
Is there a way to solve this :o?
How to surf on Internet and search for Images with internet inside Lightbox. ?

Thanks for your answer
But what a shame !
I saw it working on one of a Pixologic demo a few months ago, evan last year I think
Many thanks for your quick answer.
I dropped the "UIStarter_Z4R2_V1.zsc.zip"in the “ZBrush:ZStartup:ZPlugs folder”.
Still my trimdynamic/mPolish/Polysphere wont stay in my custom UI….
TrimDynamic and mPolish are brushes and have to be in the Brush palette in order to be used in a custom UI. If any brushes are not natively in the Brush palette then you will have to put a copy in ZStartup/BrushPresets folder so they will be in the Brush palette. PolySphere is a custom ztool and you can’t put custom ztools in a custom UI that I am aware of. Only the primatives in 3D Meshes.
Hello
I model in a few programs and every now ang again I hit a issue with OBJ files not displaying all surfaces, I think the issue is they are double sided and Zbrush is not reading them as so, so say it was a box, I can see the inside surfaces but not the outside, Is there a fix for this PLEASE …
Thnak you
Tool: Display Properties: Double will display backfaces.
If it’s actual geometry that has been modeled in, you may need to check in an external program that their normals are facing the correct way.
THANK YOU >>> THANK YOU been driving me potty …
