Questions and Troubleshooting for ZBrush 4R2b

On the mac build zb4r2b(macpro 2xXeon 16 threads nvidia)

  1. became impossible to reproduce the BPR shadow issue. Everything seems to work normally and better than zb4r2. I tested it on all the zb4r2 sculpts. Just tried on older sculpts (zb4), have Ldepth at -1 (shadows), blur at least 2, this helps.
  2. I confirm the ‘rapid strokes issue’, I also tried the move elastic on a ~1.5M mesh and this just crashed zbrush.
  3. As on zbrush4r2, once again, on zb4r2b, autorecovery doesn’t work. I tried to fix possible problem with permissions but no luck.

i have zbrush installed on 2 machines. is it possible to ugrade to 4r2b on 1 of those computers and continue to use 4r2 on the other?

or do i need to deactivate both copies before upgrading?

I’m also having this issue. I can’t get any of the curve brushes to work on objects with multiple subdivision levels.

I have/had the same problem, the only thing that helps is the angle thing but that makes some serious side effects of its own, I honestly dont know what to tell you cause I dont have a clue why its doing this…

I have the crash that happens with the Frame button as well in Windows 7 64bit, if you would like more info let me know ok?

Also, and this seems to have fixed it self (much to my delight!), I was told to re-activate several times… sometimes it worked and sometimes not and then POOF its all better.

There are a few odd issues with 2.5D stuff seeming 2D, as in objects do not always conform to the shape of other objects as you drag them along as a brush… Did that make sense? Talking about 2.5D always sounds odd…

EDIT: Just to see what people were talking about I tried the Move Elastic brush (I never use it normally) and its toast at 97,000 polygons on a dynamesh sphere…

I have that as well, it seems different from the sudden snapshot issue in that something that is long gone pops back up from nowhere.\

Elastic move pretty much unusable. Hangs Zbrush at first use.

Please also take into consideration the following problem,:frowning:

-“Transform >> Point Selection Mode” does not work correctly.

-“Color Spray” stroke of Edit mode is not “Colorized”. only change intensity.

-The high-rez-details preview of ZSphere rigged mesh does not work. Posing is not reflected.

another issue:
Clumps in fiber mesh menù doesen’t work!
if applied to the standard sphere, transformed into a mesh , it affects only the “origin” of the sphere.

curve brushes can be used only if the subtool hasn’t subdivision levels…probably it is useful with dynames, but work with them to define a end model it is impossible!
is it possible to have back the old system?

I’m not sure this applies everywhere but , having deactivated 4R2 to install 4R2b , I was surprised that, after launching the so- called deactivated 4R2, it was still running 100% !!! Since I have a certain project to finish, I’m finding comfort in working with 4R2 till this 4R2b thing blows over. You folks out there may want to choose to revert back to 4R2 if you need to, I guess.On the other hand, I’d be interested in knowing wether I’m the only one with this still fonctionning 4R2 after deactivating it…

Hi there,

I just stepped into a problem with TPM Plugin. When I hit TPose Mesh - everything works fine. I do my transposing and after that I hit TPose>SubT - but besides the mesh changes a bit from how I positioned it - the subtools stay at their place…

Now the base mesh is pretty simple - 400K Polys and I already added a fibermesh which count 400K as well

If you need further infos about this problem - or even screenshots - let me know.

This just happened trying to save something I dont even like, please pardon how badly it sucks…
The annoying bit is in the upper right.

EDIT:
Ok I just noticed those goddamed dots are back in the title bar as well (over on the right).
(amusingly you can also see that the window has done its nasty little trick of un-fullscreening it self again)
So this means I need to reinstall right? If so which version? Do I start at 4.0 or just go right to 4R2? And
if I do that should I then try 4R2b again?

EDIT OF EDIT:
I also just realized that this model is the one I was working on when I first got the regestration problem, could
this be related to the .ZTL? If so I can send that along as well, I was also recording the process in timelapse
and that stopped working while I was working on this bit…

I just fired it up again after rebooting and its working, opened the same .ZTL and messed with it and saved it just fine.
Then I closed ZBrush, fired it back up, loaded both the movie and the .ZTL and did some more work (he’s better
looking now) and re-saved both, that worked fine but I caught video of two other bugs happening at the same
time, one is the snapshot one and the other is an old version of the ZTL being plopped into the canvas.
Subedit: I didn’t record it, the movie thingy turned it self off… This keeps happening too.

Amusingly you can also see that the window has done its nasty little trick of un-fullscreening it self again!

I’m also having the move elastic lag and crash on a 64 bit windows7 machine. It will work on very low polys, but on anything medium to high I either get a long lag time , crazy deformations, and or a full crash.

I’m going to have to give up on this brush till the bug is fixed.

Played around with the new zbrush on and off for a few days now…

Few issues I have noticed.

My hotkeys for brush size no longer work. I have a wacom intuos 4, and the rotation wheel no longer works for scaling these variables.
I have tripple checked that no settings have changed on the wacom, and the rotation wheel works perfectly in every other program, so I have to assume it is zbrush…
Did the default hot keys change? If they are no longer [ and ], what is the new hotkey?

I noticed when working on fairly dense meshes (3Mil+ Polygons), the object will randomly duplicate itself multiple times, in the middle of sculpting…
Almost as if I am dropping the object to the canvas multiple times for rendering… I’ll capture a screenshot next time this happens. Simple cmd+n does the trick, but still very annoying.

Lastly, I feel like it has been operating rather sluggishly… I have a pretty nice computer, and never had problems with zbrush before, it just seems so… Glitchy… Like I’m trying to run Zbrush 4r2b on Windows 98…
Perhaps I dont have the memory settings correctly set, to optimize performance on my machine…? I’m running a Mac Pro 2.8Ghz Quad w/ 8Gb Ram.

I can’t use the Stroke curve mode on a model with subdivisions or layers.
When trying to draw a curve I get those error messages: " The mesh is composed of multiple sudbdivision levels. Action cancelled." or " The mesh has layers. Action cancelled."
