Questions and Troubleshooting for ZBrush 4R2b

Use this thread to post questions regarding any issues you might encounter with ZBrush 4R2b. Please be sure when posting about unusual behavior to follow the forum guidelines found here: http://www.zbrushcentral.com/announcement.php?f=101

This initial post will also be updated with answers for the most common issues regarding upgrading to ZBrush 4R2b as well as installation and activation. It will be updated as necessary. Should you encounter any problems with installing or activating 4R2, please check this list before posting in the thread or contacting Pixologic Support.

Please be aware that during launch week we experience incredible server traffic. It is not uncommon for multiple tries to be needed to get an activation code! Phone Activation will not bypass this issue – the support representative will get the same error message that happens with Web Activation. Simply be patient and try again later.

Q: What do do if my copy of ZBrush 4R2 does not have a Web Deactivation button?
A: Install the update. When you activate, you may get a message that you are out of activations. If that happens, click the button to View Activation History. This will list the activations counting against your serial number. You can then check off the copies you’re updating and submit the form. A Support ticket will be created with the info that we need to remove the lost activation(s).

Turnaround time may be a little slow. Under normal circumstances we are able to handle these requests within 1 hour during regular business hours. However, things get a little crazy during launch week.

Q: ZBrush says it activates successfully, then immediately returns to asking for activation.
A: Version 4R2b includes a number of changes to existing features. Your CustomUI most likely includes settings that are no longer possible in 4R2b. Simply remove or delete the CustomUserInterface4R2.cfg file from your ZStartup folder. You will need to do Web Activation again, but this time the problem should be resolved. You will of course need to create a new Custom UI.

framing up on a subtool crashes the program when it is the only subtool visible in a multi-subtool model. Reproduced in multiple dafault tools.

Guess who forgot he had zbrush on two machines and didnt de activate…doh. Ive sent a support request but do you know if pixologic are hanging about to deal with stupid idiots like me who need a deactivation?

1. i have experimented that shadows quality is worse than the previous relase!
   now shadows are unusable!
   they are full of artifacts, too dark, though i have tried to set them and fill all the model!
   i have a work to finish and at the moment i can’t use shadows!:mad:
   please help me and fix this bug! ( i haven’t this problem with the first version of zBrush 4! and now i can’t open my works with it to fix shadows)

For your shadows, it looks like you need to turn up the Rays a bit and most likely your Angle is set at 0. Turn the angle up to more like 40 or 50.

File size in the jpg exporter is not meant to move, it’s just meant to let you know your file size when changing other settings.

I Followed Install directions…All went well, I played with ZB4r2b for about 30 min…
Shutdown…
Tried to restart ZB4R2b…I receive this screen message…

Zscript note: unrecognized command

…wait about 2-5 seconds…application closes…

Like I mentioned…all went well, then about an hour later…

Missed your settings, sorry. Definitely set your Rays lower to something more in the 60-80 and set your angle to the 40-50 range. you should get better shadows that way.

Has anyone used Manual Deactivation, does it work also?

After installing 4R2b, I noticed that it created some sort of backup folder on my desktop (not a shortcut) See images below. I temporarily put this folder in my Recycle Bin and tried starting ZBrush 4R2b from it’s normal install directory (default) and it started OK. I’m just wondering if it is safe to delete this folder permanently. I did make a backup of my 4R2 installation, but this isn’t it.

it doesn’t work for me…
shadows are still noisy and i can’t set them for a lighten value…

Hello i just downloaded 4r2b followed the instructions and i get this message upon opening zbrush “Sorry, incorrect filepermissions detected. Please relaunch Zbrush as Administrator” i deactivated before installing the update. any suggestions?

For those of you who have no web de activation, you mean that the button isn’t visible, is it greyed out?
is it possible to post a screenshot?

Zber2: this is a strange issue, because the upgrader doesn’t create something at all on the desktop. What is your system? I guessed you hided some files in your screenshots?

The WEB DEACTIVATION button under deactivation is not visible, it is not there. Only the MANUAL button is there.

I have the same problem…there is only manual deactivation, nothing else.
May be that is because i have 2 systems installed, snow leopard on one disk, lion on another…

Having a screenshot with the window open is important for us as we need to see if something strange happen or not, like a button to another location.
We don’t have this issue on our side and personally, I never heard of this problem before.
