Zproject not working.
In the R2 update thread you mention Zproject ‘sampling value’ is set to -0- by default - what is the ‘sampling value’?
Under the brush palette I took the sampling value all the way up, didn’t have any affect.
Why is Zproject masking instead of projecting?
The Move brush has three modes in ZBrush 3.5.
- Click and drag to move in screen space, left/right/up/down.
- Click then Hold SHIFT key and drag to move along the Normal direction.
- Click then Hold ALT key and drag to move along the surface.
I use option 2 a lot, all the time - but in 3.2 I use alt instead of shift.
Using shift is very uncomfortable because I use shift to ‘smooth’.
Now I have to tap the canvas then hold shift and then move, feels very odd.
I assume that option 3 is new and that is why pixologic switched movebrush/alt to movebrush/shift, so that movebrush/alt can be used to move along the surface.
But - can anyone give me an example of where I would be using ‘move along the surface’? Because I can’t think of anything practical that I would use often. On the other hand I CAN think of many practical uses of move/alt to move along the normals. And alt never gets in my way by clicking it. Shift (smooth) does get in the way if I click it out of order.
[EDIT, addition]
Also, with move/alt/normals - you can hold alt and move an area, lift your pen to another area (never releasing alt) and tap/move, creating large ‘moved’ mesh areas. This is fast. But - with move/shift/normals you can not do this. You have to shift/click to move some, lift pen, release shift key, click pen in a new mesh area, shift down/hold, drag pen, lift pen, release key - repeat. This is slow and tricky.
I hope that was clear.
It seems you have to use the curves under Brush>Tablet Pressure now to affect the size sensitivity of brushes. Would be nice if Preferences>Tablet>Size Sensitivity could have a global affect on all brushes though.
When Tool has two or more UV islands
“Auto Groups” and “Auto Groups With UV” are the same results.
Is this only me?
Okay… I didn’t have any issues with starting R2, but here my spoon of dirt in this barrel of honey:
-
“Extract” function in subtools pallete won’t work. Extracted shape is broken and it also extracts lots of tiny “dots” (peices of geometry i didn’t maks, even on very low-poly subD).
-
Scale of after retopo and creating Adaptive skin differs from the scale of the source tool. I tried to switch to “old style adaptive skin options”, but nothn. So u can’t even add new adaptive skin as a subtool to existing tool.
There is no (known for me) working way to do clothing as subtools in zbrush now…
- If i pick color with “C” key and change brush size with “S” imidiatly after that, i’ll lost my color. That problem was in 3.1 either. If i paint a dot with new color, no problem. That’s not critical, but i like to pick color and then change size.
It’s not working for me for mow. ZSperes 2 are awesome though.
In previous ZBrush my workflow was to model sg in Softimage, export as OBJ and do the job in ZB.
Now when I import an OBJ, it is out of scale, an position…That briefly killed my workflow. Help!!!
I realize you are having ‘import’ issues, but here is some information that I hope helps:
Under tools, export (at the bottom) there are new sliders, scale and offset x, y, and z. You could set scale 1, offset 0, 0, 0, on each subtool. Then export them to your desktop, import them into SI, see how that goes.
The new sliders have solved all my problems with software .obj exchanges, and solved my issues with transpose master. I don’t use SI though so my experience might not apply to you. I hope this helps.
I think you guys should rethink how you do your activation process. A customer really shouldn’t have to worry about getting files and dropping different codes into the app, then find out that they still don’t work. Thankfully I don’t use Windows that much so I don’t mind sticking with ZB 3.2 on the Mac, I just hope that activation runs smoother when you release ZB 3.5 for OS X.
Keep up the excellent work. Can’t wait to try out the new zspheres!

I agree. This is whacko. I don’t have any problems importing from Maya (never have), things are in the right place, right size. But check this out. I made a mask in Maya (a little Green Hornet type thing around a character’s eyes), brought it into ZBrush, no problem. I did a morph difference to get some thickness. All good. Then I cloned it, and appended it back in. But the clone is tiny, and in the character’s crotch!! Shouldn’t it be a clone? Exactly the same in size and position? The original still sits on the character’s face. Huh. Any ideas?
Has anybody experienced display problems at times in both 3.5 and 3.5 R2? It occurs when I use scale, rotate or move but not all the time, it is not at all predictable. The problem appears on my desktop computer and also my laptop, the only way to lose it is to open a new document. At times the image freezes at other times the model breaks up or appears to create a separate image. I am using XP
Thanks,
Dave
Hello.
I’ve been trying out Zbrush 3.5 and i noticed that the noise (before being applied to the mesh) has a different minimum size on different models.
More specifically i tried it on a polysphere and the male model head with the same scale setting:1, but it was considerably larger on the male model, while on the sphere it was very small.
Does it depend on something? (they said in the video tutorials that it is resolution independent), but i can’t seem to make the noise in some models small enough.
Thanks in advance
Hello.
Is there a way to paint (or make it symmetrical later) HD sculpting?
I know that pressing x will work, but only in a area which is at the center of the model where the strokes are ‘within’ the HD sculpting area.
What happens if i wan’t to HD sculpt an entire half model and then make the other side symmtrical? (in HD of course)
Thanks in advance.
Jester
i am not having this workflow issue. Could you send me a tool to test with that is giving you the issue? What version of Softimage are you using?
I used all default settings in ZBrush and SoftImage
Paul
Hello
You will not be able to sculpt that way in HD. The entire mesh woudl have to be in HD mode which no computer would be able to handle. That is why the workflow is to look at what you are about to sculpt and create a selection based on that to put in HD mode.
This is what I suggest. If I have a entire body and I only want to work on the face in HD. hide all geometry but the head and then turn your head to the side view and click ‘a’ on the check. Depending how high of HD polycount you have it will put most of the face in HD and then you can sculpt with symmetry in HD mode.
You could also up your HD Max polycount in the Preferences>Mem setting. Be careful though, don’t go to crazy it will crash any system.
Paul
Hello
Do you have a mesh that is not creating an extraction from? I can not duplicate this issue and every mesh I try is fine. Can you extract on the default polysphere?
Can you give me screenshots of your settings for extract.
Can you make a little video or screenshots of your adaptive skin issue. In order to add your new skin as a subtool you need to make it a mesh first by pressing Make Adaptive Skin or Make Polymesh. Then go to your main tool that was used for the base and append the new skin.
If you can give me some step by steps that would be great.
Paul
hello
Are you using Windows 7?
Paul
Hello
Noise is an absolute value. When you, have a smaller object the noise is exactly the same as the large object. however, you just might not see as much of the noise which may give the illusion that the noise is not the same but it is. For an experiment enlarge the size of the head and you will see that the noise is the same.

couple of glitches mainly the start up with light box is a bit odd also wondering when the zplugs will be up and ready… but all in all its amazing its handling way bigger polys and It flows and is just awesome … thanks pixo

Here they are, but what’s the point???
I found that some mac version users got an email which allows them to use 3.5 for windows.
Like this:

(Written in Japanese)
I didn’t get an email like that.
Does anyone know what is the difference between those people and me?
Anyway, I’m really looking forward to mac version.
