Questions and Troubleshooting for ZBrush 3.5R2 Windows

Regarding the masking, the Intensity/Hue/Saturation options are only available for textures. They don’t work with polypaint. Of course, you can quickly get around that by using Tool>Texture Map>New From Polypaint, which then enables the remaining masking options. Once you’ve done the masking you want, turn the texture off again and the mask will remain.

I managed to make an alpha with the mask and use that to save my mask, but I remember in Zbrush 3.1 I was able to use it okay without having to apply UVW’s to my model.

sorry if peeps has already asked for something similar, but i 've got a request consernign the move brush movign in the normal direction with shift:

is there a way to change it to:

1. Click and drag to move in screen space, left/right/up/down.

2. Click then Hold ALT key and drag to move along the Normal direction.

[color=Black]3. Click then Hold ALT and SHIFT keys and drag to move along the surface.


the way it works is a real pain and I keep going back to 3.1 to block my models up as i use this tool a lot…please tell me its possible! :frowning:

I decided to test the extract button on a polysphere in 3.5R2 at 6mil+ polys on my new machine - double quad core cpu, 12gb ram - and it never extracted, it just froze up or quit responding. After restarting I lowered the subdivision level to 300,000+ polys and after waiting for 2 minutes got an extracted mesh, but not what I expected. The mask I used was the standard "grid" texture and "mask by intensity". But the extracted mesh came out a bunch of circles, not squares like you would expect, and the mesh was paper thin, although I had the thickness set to ".02". Both smooth sliders were set to "1".

I then decided to recreate the same test using Zbrush 3.1. Using all of the same settings, the same mesh and mask, the extract worked great and was very fast in comparison. I extracted from a 6mil+ poly mesh with no problems. The extracted mesh was the right thickness and was nice crisp squares that you would expect from a grid shaped mask.

I checked both Zbrush versions to make sure all of the performance/mem settings were set the same and they were.

My OS is Vista Home Premium 64bit. My cpu is Intel Core i7 975 @ 3.33ghz, 12gb ram, Nvidia Geforce Gtx 285 video card.

Same problem here, dual quad core xeons, and a 1.8 million poly mesh.

Hi all,
I have a laptop and I’d like to install there ZBrush 3.5r2, actually installed in my desktop, where it works fine.
The problem is about activation: it seems to reject the code!
Is it possible to install ZBrush even in my laptop ?
I’m the only user/licensed owner, I don’t want to use ZBrush in the same time, well, I’m not so good, so there’s a solution to have a working ZBrush even in another computer?
Just one, my laptop, promise!

Polygroup problems on meshes created from ZSketches: Creating polygroups works unexpectedly as random polygons are included or excluded from your created polygroup. Hiding polygons either with Ctrl+Shift+Clicking on a custom polygroup or from masking and Hide Pt may or may not show these holes and fragments. Once you use Split Hidden, Group Split, or Delete Hidden these holes and fragments show up.

Every time I try to use the Smooth Valley and Smooth Peaks brush the don’t responded.

May I ask when is version 4 due? Since I was told to wait when 3.5 won’t run on my laptop, I wonder if it means next year.

Hi, I´m german, but I hope I can write understandable.

I unzipped ZBrush, created a model with ZSpheres and got the problem, that changings like magnetspheres or modelling has the effect, that the affected parts get invisible.
They get visible again after moving the model, but that´s really unsatisfying, to move the model after every step.
May you have a suggestion, what to do?

When will the official ZB-Plugins be ported to 3.5 ?

Currently, it’s like like driving with activated brakes.
It would be nice if we could have actualized plugins along with a new release rather than to get them shortly before the next ZB release is out. :wink:

For the lack of finding the answers in this thread I’d like to bump two questions:

  1. How do I get rid of the load-up poly-sphere for good?
  2. What is the fix for the display issues, where fractions of the geometry appear and stay on the canvas when using the Move and Scale UI buttons?

You can stop Lightbox from launching by turning off
the option
Preferences/Lightbox/Open at launch.

As for the display errors you are having,
try updating your video card driver.

Just two question:

  1. Bug? When in Edit topology, the “safe area” (the tiny rectangle usable to rotate the model in close-up) doesn’t work: could you confirm?
  2. What’s better: to post here something wrong or, as customer, have a direct contact with pixologic support team?

Stopping Lightbox from lauching at startup will also stop the sphere from loading on the canvas automatically at startup?! Why the heck are these two connected? They seem like totally different things to me. But if that does the trick, I aint complainin’!:smiley:

I don't think the display errors are driver related. I tried the workaround [spaceboy412](http://member.php?u=5315) suggested in an earlier post by using the alt-navigation hotkeys instead of the UI buttons. If I do that, I indeed no longer get any artifacting at all. So its definitely a bug, I'd say. Cheers and thanks again!

I have no issue with the modeling being able to be rotate on the “safe area” when up close. In fact I can even use the new right click navigation as well. It’s great to post here first because a user may have the answer for you but if you feel that the answer is not here on ZBC then definitely make a ticket on support.pixologic.com. :slight_smile:

About first answer, well, I’m not sure of what you said.
The case is:

  • Start a topology of a model
  • Press F: the model will be zoomed, maybe it will cover all the canvas, safe area included
  • If you try to rotate the model using the safe area or the right mouse button in a part of canvas covered by the model, ZBrush will continue to draw topology instead to rotate the model. To rotate the model you have to use an empty part of canvas, but if your model covers everything, you have to turn off the Edit topology, then zoom out, then turn on Edit Topology.
    Could you confirm?

P.S. It seems the problem is the same even if you are "ZSphere"ing: when you press right mouse button to rotate the model, ZBrush draws a zsphere.

I disabled Lightbox as explained, but the damn sphere still loads on startup. :cry: Now what?!?!? Not that this is such a major issue as the display problems are, but its still quite annoying to have that huge thing smack-in-your-face whenever you start ZB.:lol:

When i try to load, save, import or export any ztool zbrush crashes. I have determined it is the CustomUserInterface35.cfg file. so i delete it, but every time i save a new config file the issues is back.

Hello, I’m new to Zbrush, and now learning through a lot of tutorials.
The tutorial I’m referring to is based on previous version.
So, there’s some difference in interface.
The tutorial says “use tweak brush” and I found none.
Can you please tell me where it’s gone?

but the texture is not on the mesh
the texture is in the palette texture
how do i get the texture on the mesh ?
