Questions and Troubleshooting for ZBrush 3.5R2 Windows

The tweak brush is now called the move brush, which can be found in the Brush menu to the top left of the screen.

I import a mesh & texture
but the texture is not on the mesh
the texture is in the palette texture
how do i get the texture on the mesh ?

The texture in Zrush v3.5 get applied as per poly mesh. Before in previouse versions of Zbrush all applied textured are in shown in the texture menu to the left of the UI.

If you look to the right of the screen in the tool pallet, your see the expandable text named (Texture map). Open this text menu, and your see a blank grey area which you can click on that alows you to sellect your imported texture.

Hm, my 3.5 download link expired on 11/10/09 - and I don’t see how I could get the installer files.

but what is normal map for ?

Increment autosaves. Worst thing is when zbrush crashes and autosaves, and I load up zbrush again, only to have it crash and save on top of the previously autosaved file…

When working in Zsphere, how can I center specific part.(the way hide the unnecessary part then press “F” is not working in Z sphere mode, right??)

And when I rotate, I know people turn on “Local” to make a pivot point, but is there any way I can “touch” on the surface without any effect so that I can simply make a pivot point and turn around.

And one more, please.
I am making hand with Z sketch. And I don’t want it to convert into unified skin(because it’s not good for sculpting fingers) I am trying to bind them and make adaptive skin. And it is quite difficult because sketch won’t be shown when it comes too far from sphere. For example, we have a meat between index finger and thumb. I use sketch as the meat. But it connect(or bridge) each fingers. So I lost the sketch in the middle part of the bridge. So I can’t get further.
I appreciate any kind of advice or reference, thank you.

I can help you with the pivot question… if you just click with the move tool active its enough to register a pivot without effecting the surface…

So as i have read all of these replies and posts and keep hearing you must be using zbrush as an administrator in order to use 3.5r2, We currently have 3.1 and i was pushing to upgrade to 3.5, however this is a lab/classroom environment, i cannot give all of the students administrator priveleges since that could be disastrous i never remember having to do that with 3.1, in fact we have many apps Softimage, 3dsmax, maya and many more that do not require administrator access to use. Is there a workaround or should we just forget getting the upgrade, that would really be ashame.

Recently, I’ve been playing a lot with the Zsketching tools in the new 3.5 version and I have a few questions which I did not find the solution…

Sometimes when I use certain tools even though the Z intensity is all the way up to 100, the tool only has a small effect. I often want to use the bulge tool but it takes a lot of clicking around to get a visible size change on those Zsphere … Yet sometimes it works like a charm.

Have any of you encountered this situation?

I thought it could have been a scale issue but I did not find any solution…

It most often happens with the bulge tool. If I switch to another one, like the flush resize, I do not have the same kind of problem…

I’d like to make that bulge tool work so any help would greatly be appreciated!

Hey guys I have a question…

Is there a shorcut to change the scale size in 3.5R2?

I mean…I don’t know why…or when, but I import .obj…sculpt save as a .ztl and keep working on it and keep saving incremental files…and then next thing I know the scale size has changed to 1 without me ever doing anything to it…this is only happening on 3.5R2, is this a known bug?

Ok…so I minimized zbrush to come here and type that previous post. The scale was at 1…so when I finished typing that post up…when back to zbrush, maximize the window…and the scale was back to normal…WTF?

Ok…I think I found out what’s causing the problem. After I posted my reply back to my previous post this problem happened again!

Ok, so I import .obj from 3ds max. The export scale is at 496.something…

I sub-d it…and if I save the .ztl with lets say…an arm hidden from the character and then later open up that .ztl (with the arm hidden) the export scale is then set to 0.

Can anyone confirm this happens to them too? Or is it my machine?

I’m sure 3.1 didn’t do this cuz I used to do the same thing all the time and it never scaled it down.

I have problems centering my models when they are partially visible. If I click on the canvas while pressing alt my model jumps all around the canvas and only rarely centers perfectly. What’s going on?

I have been using r3 a bit now and I have a few issues. The first is with projection master, some times it works sometimes it doesn’t. When it doesn’t it seems to reset the the subtool scale when I enter back into edit mode and the projected details end up really small and low res.
The other is with project all in the subtool palette. I cannot seem to get the same results as with r2 which seemed to have less spiking than 3.5 or 3.1 but r3 seems to have very random spiking regardless of the settings I use on the sliders. This could just be my mesh but I would be interested to know if anything as altered between r2 and r2.
Now if I could just get a flatten brush to work on pinched poles like the one in 3.1 I would be happy as Larry.

I have making list of R3 bugz and yes the smoothing feature for Project all doesn’t work …ZBrush says is its but you get no smoothing and also random vertex spiking.

as for smoothing Poles …looks like someone didn’t the manual?:rolleyes:

I’ve been using the New smoothing poles get rid off all 3 and 5 edged pole works supper on the tops of heads that have 3 edges poles

Buttons for SPLIT POLYGROUP and DIVIDE are greyed out.
I´d made polygroups from masking and wanted to split them, but
due to those greyed buttons there´s no way to get that :frowning:

i’m not sure about the split hidden, but group split usually gets greyed out if you have part of your tool hidden, which might be the case because i notice your layers are greyed out as well, make sure to check that.

EDIT: it looks like split hidden only works when you have no subdivion levels

Ah, my intention was to GroupSplit, anyway, the SubDLvl is 1
(started from ZSculpt with ~ 200k Polys, lost that startingmesh through DecMaster)

So, no matter if I hide sth or not, if I have only two subgroups or more - there´s no way to get those lil buttons working again for my maintool.
It´s even not allowed to del higher/lower.
Please you cracks, I´m a noob without any clue how to solve the prob.
My last hope is, that those from support can get me back to work at that model

I’ve been trying to figure out how this is happening on all my ztools in 3.5 and I was able to get the same results when I tested this. This happens when I save a ztool with some polies of a mesh hidden.
