Questions and Troubleshooting for ZBrush 3.5 Windows

Looks like I even have to run the shortcut “as administrator”.

Right.

I’ll complete the work I started:

To be able to use ZB3.5 on Vista 64bit, you can create a shortcut to the ZBrush.exe inside the 3.5 folder in your Program Files (x86) folder on your desktop.

Then rightclick the icon, choose Properties at the bottom of the dropdown list and on the Shortcut Tab, choose bottom right “Advanced”.
Check “always run as administrator” and click ok, apply and ok.

If you want an entry in your Start Menu:

Click on Start, right click on Programs and choose Explore, change the right-hand side part of the window to Desktop and copy the newly created icon (see above) from your desktop to the pixologic folder inside the start folder (left hand side)

This should do it.
I sincerely hope.

This may be obvious to programmers, but I guess that for many Windows users it’s a very difficult install, and badly documented and/or explained!

What is the situation with plugins, none of mine seem to work. What should we do…Are the plugins going to be wrapped into the main app eventually?
thanks!

Most plugins have to be rewritten for 3.5. This is because all the new features have changed how some things work or moved where other things are located. We are currently working on updating the plugins that we have written. Individual authors will need to update theirs.

Where did the testure to polypaint function go? Feeling really stupid here…:frowning:

Nevermind… found it under polypaint now instead of texture… :+1:

I’ve the same problem … can’t change the active brush to smooth from the menù …

Hey ! Just wanted to say the install ran smoothly and the app runs really fast now (im on a dell precision m90 “T7200 CPU | 4GB ram | 512mb Quadro FX 2500m”)

And as fluxist8070 said, what is the deal with the plugins? I can’t get decimation master to work :frowning:

It didn´t solve my problem. Still the same. I´m planning to update to SP3, maybe that could help. I´ll let you know when I do that in case you don´t have any other solution.

But I would have another question. If this doesn´t work, I´ll be formating the system. What would happen in case that I didn´t deactivate online before formating, and the 3.5 still wouldn´t work for me? on the support center there´s said that one day 3.1 won´t be supported anymore, so in that case would I end up with 3.1 that noone will activate for me, and 3.5 that won´t work for me? I hope not.

EDIT:
And I forgot… at what point should I update my info at support center in my account according the new cleverbridge and serial number that I got with the upgrade?

You won’t be left hanging. But I can’t imagine anything that would ultimately prevent 3.5 from running for you.

Regarding the Support center, update that as soon as you can. Thanks.

What’s the advice on pluggins?

I can’t get Zapplink working. I got some sort of message like “failed to launch external application” and now unless I remove the plugin from the startup Zplugs folder ZBrush 3.5 won’t start???

Most plugins from earlier versions will not work with 3.5. Too much is changed or new. We’re working on updating everything that we’ve published. I can’t give an ETA on specific ones, though.

I’m fairly panicked by this point. Whatever list Cleverbridge uses, I was pretty early on it last time, and got Z3 right away, and I just “know” it’s not coming, and yet Pixo doesnt want to hear from me until after business today…which happens to coincide with them shutting down for the weekend.

They certainly deserve the time off, but making us wait til Monday while everyone else is in a gleeful Zsketching frenzy on the mainboard is cruel and unusual punishment. :frowning:

Me want.

While we will not be answering phone calls over the weekend, we will be working our way through support tickets. That’s not a promise that we will get to every ticket. Just that we will be working.

The email address provided does not match with the serial key provided at the time of purchase.

Hi all, i’ve a problem with activation by web: don’t recognize my email…
ref. n: 7252835
Leonardo Panella
[email protected]
serial:4R8Y-TH3F-YXM…

I’ve fixed the issue that was creating a problem for you. You should now be able to activate successfully. When you get to the congratulations screen, be sure to copy the code that you’ll see there. Switch back to ZBrush and click “Enter Code” to finish your activation. You can ignore (and should delete) the email that will be sent to you with a .zsc attachment.

Fixed, thx

The Standard Brush does not seem to work as smoothly as 3.1 for me. The stroke is very dotted, and there seems to be no difference between dotted and freehand stroke. IS THERE A WAY TO HAVE A SMOOTHER STROKE WITH THE STANDARD BRUSH??? I tried almost everything i can think of.

I have 3.1 installed in a separate directory.
Working WinXP Pro system with 100 gigs of disk free:

First try, Zbrush 3.5 tried to start (hour glass) fora full minute, then gave message that I did not have enough free disk space; then I clicked passed that and got opening zbrush window. I quit zbrush and tried again:

This time, and on the next two tries Zbruhs 3.5 failed to start entirely, gave no error message; hour glass just keeps running for a few minutes until I finally kill zbrush process with ctrl-alt-del

Have not been able to start it.
I was having this problem till I realized there was an error, I just couldn’t see it as ZBrush had some sort of spash screen that was dead over top of the error popup (and was consuming a whole CPU.) The popup I got was:

Out of disk space.
Virtual memory file can’t be used until more disk space is made available.
It is recommended that you save your work and restart ZBrush.
I don’t know what it’s trying to allocate on disk, I have about 5GB of drive space free on the main disk, but if I hit OK it works. So anyhow, if you’re just getting an hourglass/spinner, try just hitting enter and see if it continues.

ZBrush writes its own virtual memory file to its directories. If it’s prevented from doing so for some reason (such as user permissions) you’ll get that error. Yes, ZBrush will run. But it will be prevented from writing virtual memory, which will seriously hamper performance. You need to find whatever permissions setting is preventing ZBrush from being able to write to its own folder and subfolders.

You guys are swell!

[edit] BTW, you just emailed me the link right now in order to make me look as silly as possible for fretting, didn’t you ? Admit it!

Version 3,5 working fine on my system:Vista 64 bits ,8 gigs ram
Just unzip and place the resulting folder where you want ,not need to place on C: or in a X86 folder

Great news. Then there is still hope for me.

whimper

Bloody hell. I have no Cleverbridge number. The computer I originally got Z-Brush on back in 2004 has long since died, as has the computer I upgraded to 3.1. So no Email info.

I have my serial number from Element 5 and my email is the same as when I got Z-Brush 1.5 and all upgrades thereafter. How do I get a Cleverbridge number?

I have a support center account.

Thanks,

Richard A. Payne Jr.
AKA Dickie

You do not need to worry about the support account at this time. We didn’t have enough people create support accounts prior to the launch of 3.5 for us to use that system for the upgrade. That’s why Cleverbridge is sending all the links, and they are just using the email address that was on record from your ZBrush 3 purchase or upgrade. The only way you would not receive the email is if your address has changed since you got version 3. Your support account has nothing to do with it. (After upgrading, though, you should create/update your support account ASAP so that we can provide support to you if needed.)

Emails ARE still being sent. No need to panic.

Well they must be sending them out in batches of 3 at a time, or there are a dam lot of people that they are sending them out to, or they are leaving 2 hour gaps between each batch. Not as if I got time anyway, iv been loopking for my mobile phone for the last 4 hours,

Gettin the same exact error when I try to launch. Should I attempt to reinstall visual C as well?

So I installed Service Pack 3, still no change… I´ve been removing and installing vcredist_86 for like 30 times too (and various versions. the one provided with the zbrush.rar, the one on the link you gave me… and I also tried restart after removing, restart after installing… simply restart after every freaking thing I did - didn´t help)… will reinstalling 3.1 have any influence on the 3.5? Or is there any chance that my zbrush.rar file is corrupted? I know - it´s archive, if it was corrupted, it wouldn´t open at all, but I really don´t know how else to explain this…

EDIT:
here´s my specs:
running on: WINDOWS XP Pro SP3
CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2500 +
GPU: geforce fx 5200 (128 mb)
RAM: 1 gb + 512 mb
motherboard: ASUS A7V8X-X
(it´s 6 years old, so have some respect  served well for all the years and at some game titles I got really unbelievable performance)

Btw. good to know I won´t be left hanging (it didn´t sound like you guys, but I just wanted to make sure, you know…). I will also update my account as soon as I get the zb 3.5 running (which doesn´t seem to be anytime soon).
