Questions and Troubleshooting for ZBrush 3.5 Windows

Hey Antimorph,

I’ve tried setting firefox as my default browser. Same result.
I’m completely baffled. I’ve even tried my iexplorer 64bit exe. no luck. :/.

when I load a file from light box I’m using the brushes- but I don’t when I start a new zsphere creation.
What did I miss?

Have the same problem! 3.5 works online but in offline-mode I need for every new start a new activation-key via web activation. Cant understand!?..have deactivate all anti-virus programms…nothing:confused:

something odd is happening when you try to make a toplogy mask (ctrl + drag) : the mask is hidden

solution:
1: ctrl + h (view mask)
2: paint somewhere(random) a mask on your model before you make a topology mask

what really happens is: under the masking tab:
when you clear a mask the “view mask-button” got disabled too(at the same time).

seems like a bug to me.

Brett,
firefox : tools>options>content>enable java

don’t know if it will make a difference.

Good luck

Hey Lucky_1

Java is enabled in firefox an IE. I submitted a ticket. Lets hope they have a solution.

cant get mine to install on my laptop vista 64bit , side by side error , tried the X86 , x64 redistributables for visual C++ , always error 1935 trying to install it , run as admin, disabled anti virus , checked DEP , … tried a web install for visual basic , gave up ;p

it installed fine on my desktop though , which is windows xp 32bit. Just wanted to see if you can still activate the license for a desktop and a laptop, but didn’t get far on the laptop.

So if I read that correctly, you’re getting an error when trying to install C++? If so, that is something that Microsoft will need to provide assistance with. All we can do is say that the C++ redistributable is required. We can’t actually provide support for a Microsoft product/installer.

This is a problem that should have been easily avoided if the programmers followed Microsofts protocols. They obviously did not do so. The fix will have to come from Pixologic, it is not a case of permissions that can be set by the user; providing that the user installs it inside any of the Program Files directories. It is a security feature of Vista to prevent a program to write to these directories. What you see is actually a virtual Program Files directory, and not the actual one. This supposed prevents malicious software from causing damage. I am not sure i agree that it is a good feature; but it is what it is.

I installed in the Program Files(x86) directory and also have this problem. I have activated it and it works after clicking OK in the error box. What would happen if I move the directory outside of the Program Files(x86) directory? Will i lose my activation?

I have the exact same problem. Weird thing is that 3.5 ran perfectly the very first time after running the fix from the troubleshoot folder. I had a quick play with it then closed it to do other stuff. When I came back to it for further study I also get the failed to start message. Changed the DEP setting, reset the machine. Still crashes.

It’s the zbrushdll.dll which seems to be the problem in the report which windows wants to send to Microsoft.

I’ll try it on my laptop, as I usually switch between the two with ZBrush anyway.

Iv spent very little time in 3.5, but I went through some of the things that are important. Some are minor, while others a major bugs. This is only 35 min spent in Zbrush 3.5.

Zooming for Topology is much better,:+1: the wire does get hidden when going quite close. :-1:

Overal the retopology works much better going by the single model I did have issues with in ZB 3.1. :+1:

Projection didnt cave in the cavity for the eyes, this is much better, and makes retopology more usabel. Again havent had time to test or more models yet. :+1:

Displacment map is generated with a more simple layout, has the auto flip on ther vertical, and auto export. very nice indeed. :+1:

Producing displacment maps with geometry hidden i.e when multiple Uvs overlap, ZB 3.5 crashes every time. :-1:

Uv groups does not work. Same obj file works works fine in v3.1. :-1:

There is no Flip vertical in the Normal map making area this was avalible in UvMapper. I found it odd that we have to press Clone NM to export it
from the texture menu, but nothing major. :-1:

There doesnt seem to be a way to dissable or delete HD sculpting. I sub devided HD scuilpting twice, and from that point onwards the
mouse lagged bad, and there was no way to get out from this other than close zbrush. :-1:

Flipping the created texture map back from a vertical flip does not update in the texture map pannel to the right of the UI. You have to re-sellect it again to get the preview to update. :-1:

Turning texture maps off from the left texture UI area has no effect. It has to be done from the right Texture map area of the UI. :-1:

Suv is still in the geometry Tab, and still does not work? :-1: :-1: There should be a smooth Uvs in the texture map area.

There is no Flip vertical in the Normal map making area. I found it odd that we have to press Clone NM to export it from the texture menu, but nothing major.:-1:

Changing the size of a Document still dosent auto draw the current too back onto the canvas, plus you still have to clear layer.

Hi, you need to increase the mouse average at 6 or 8 “stroke palette”. If that don’t work properly try to reduce the sensitivity of your tablet.

Best regards.

Emmanuel.

I reinstalled 3.5 and after having to get my key again it works fine.

I think it was my fault, as I copied some plug-ins over from 3.1. It was either Poser Scaler or Image Place which must have caused the problem.

anyone manage to solve the side-by-side error combined with the 1935 error when installing the visualC++ ?

vista premium 64bit. I’ve tried about 3 pages of google solutions , none worked.

Have you tried using the Run as Administrator option? Vista will often give the side-by-side error despite up to date C++ components. Simply right-click on the ZBrush.exe and choose “Properties”. Go to the compatibility tab, at the bottom of which there is a box to check for running the app as an administrator. Check that box, click “Apply” and then close the window. This should resolve your issue.

Those that are having issues with Java on FF3 see this link:

http://maketecheasier.com/java-not-working-on-your-firefox-3-try-this-simple-fix/2008/07/10

Might find a way to get it running successfully!!

I had the same issue and then all of a sudden after leaving the tab open for a while and doing something else I came back to it and it was loaded up. So perhaps it just takes a while to wake up and load… not sure!! :o

Also make sure that you have the most current Java installed. http://java.com

I tried to do web activation. After filling in my information on the form that comes up and hitting the “Start Activation” button, it takes me to the confirmation.php page and nothing else happens. I don’t get any code to input or anything.

Please make sure that you have the most current version of Java installed. You can get it from http://java.com

It’s possible that your version is out of date and so the pages are not working correctly.

23arts: Do the setup in the “troubleshoot help” folder and than go to repair. Then start zbrush again. Now it works offline;)

What do you mean by “go to repair”?

I would like to know if anyone else is experiencing overlapping of all tools created from the tool Palette. When I create a tool and press the edit button, the same tool is overlapping on top.

Is there something I do not know?

I see alot of people having this issue, mine worked first time.
I clicked on web activate. Filled out the form and activate. I then see the screen shot below.

Windows Visat 64 ultimate, latest updates, 8gb ram. I put Zbrush in the Programfiles x86/ Pixologic folder kept in its own 3.5 folder. I applied the patch from the trouble shooting folder right about then activated it. Note I saw the Java screen for 3 seconds for thie page showed.

zb reg.jpg

Well I’ve been testing the javascript issue all day. I’ve tested it on vista 64bit and 32bit as well as xp 32bit. I have the same issue on all 3 pc’s. So it could be an issue with my router or something.

I’ve also cleaned my registry. Fun! haha.

2 gig worth of bandwidth later…

So I have a weird question. I unexpectedly got a cleverbridge link from support last night for 3.5 PC.

The reason this was unexpected is because I am a Mac user and have been happily running 3.2 and all previous builds of Zbrush for mac since 1.55. I did take advantage of Pixologic’s offer to run 3.1 PC through parallels (emulation) while the mac community waited for Zbrush 3 and am glad I did. With there being no release date now for the 3.5 OSX and having sat thru the long ZB 2 mac (8? months) and even longer ZB 3 mac (17? months) waits, it is tempting to grab this now.

My conundrum is if I will lose the use of 3.2 (OSX) by running 3.5 (pc), the Download link is only good for 2 weeks, and my guess is we will see OSX 3.5 no sooner than November. If I can run both (on the same machine), then awesome. If not, I’m happy to keep using 3.2 , assuming I still get my link to 3.5 OSX before xmas.
