Quake Project: Monster Models for Quake Mod

Thanks for the comments, Sriram, and Abe. The model I’m working on now is a boss, also. He’s very Lovecraftian, in fact his name is taken from a Lovecraft creature. I should have something for you guys a little later, but I’m still working on the low poly, and design of the guy, so I can’t say for sure.

And after this last boss, I have one more model to do for the project. The zombie (finally). I’ve been thinking about what kind of zombie he should be, but haven’t really come up with any answers, so I guess I’ll have to figure it out later. But I will be making a zombie, so I’m happy about that.

Here’s what I have for the last boss so far. Like I said, VERY Lovecraftian. Still much more work to do on him, but most of the blocking out, and design is pretty much done.

Anyway, enjoy.

whoa! animator’s gonna love you!

Yeah, the animator is gonna have quite the time with this guy. I had a bit of a time with the uv’s. Not very fun at all.

But here’s an update with the normal mapped verions of him.

looks really cool
Yeah, i can imagine the animator loosing some hair

Ok, I think he’s just about done here. Hope you guys like it, cause there’s only one more model to make for this project.

looks great! i bet the uvs were a killer! can’t wait to see this thing in action…

Yeah, those uv’s weren’t easy, even with pelt mapping. But of course, pelt mapping helped a LOT.

Ok, here’s what I’ve got for the Zombie so far. No great shakes, but I am only starting. Could use some ideas, and suggestions.

Great start, solid anatomy bro…
don’t over think it too much. Dial in the hand structure to show knuckles protruding and some saggy skin. Finish off all other details in projection using alpha’s for skin folds etc.
You’ve done all the hard modeling, just needs some character.
Great job :+1:

Cool!!!
Replica, I start to recognise your style just by looking…
Thats good man!
Push the details ferther!!:+1: :+1:

Hey, thanks. This is one of the models I’ve been looking forward to the most, so I wanna get it right.

Odhinn, Thanks for the comments. I really wanted to go in and make him all gnarly, and gross at first, but I thought I’d take a slightly different direction for at least some of it. He does ttear off chunks of himself in the game, and throw them at you, so he will have to be a little gnarly. Oh, and I haven’t started any work on the hands yet, but they will get gross, I promise.

Sebcesoir, Thanks! Glad you could stop by with a comment, and really glad you like the work so far.

I’ll have updates soon (I hope). And pllease excuse any multiples of the same letter in this post. My keyboard is freaking out on me.

A quick update for the Zombie. Enjoy

looks great replica! one of my favorite
and pretty close to the original too

Thanks, Abe! I’ve been kinda surprised at how well this guys going. I’ve never done a zombie before, and while I still need to make him a little more chewed up, and nasty looking, I’m pretty happy with the way he looks. I’ll update with a pic a little later.

Since I everyone I know enjoys good head…

A close up shot.

Another pic update. I made some of his ribs visible, and Gnarled up his hands, and arms. I’ve also damaged his legs, and the back of his head, and wrists, and made some smallerr adjustments and things you really can’t see in this pic.

Enjjoy

the model looks good over all, but the wrist look very flat
and maybe a bit wide, but is hard to tell in this picture
try adjusting the shape, it should be a bit more rounded with some flatness in spots

cheers

I see what you mean, wasa, an dI think I corrected it. I’ve spent a decent amount of time on this guys hands, since they are to be on eo fthe most chewed up parts on him. Those and the feet, anyway. As such, I decided to make him completely “de-gloved”, an dhe’s got some damage on the muscle that I will be augmenting shortly.

Hope you like the update.

nice! i mean ewww! i see you changed his mouth. i was gonna say… classic nasty zombie: no lips, no eyelids.

lookin for payin work… yeah ain’t we all?! good luck with it. wish my project was funded or i’d hire ya!

Hey, thanks, Pete. This guy started out easy, but is getting progressively harder. About his mouth, I just needed a place to put some teeth, he won’t have lips.

And thanks for the comment about work. It’s been kinda hard for me to find paying work. The offers for free work keep rolling in, but decent offers for pay work don’t. That’s why I’m gonna update my demo reel, and send out some more resumes after this project. I’m sure I’ll get someones interest soon
