Quake Project: Monster Models for Quake Mod

At the risk of total embarrasment, I’m upping the dog. I can’t figure out what’s wrong with it aside from the eyes, (I stll don’t know how to make them better) and lack of a tongue. Please, if anyone can help me out, I’d really appreciate it. I haven’t been able to find ANY dog muscle structure pics on google’s image search, or off the web search either.

This is breed specific, Rautweiler, so if that helps anyone figure out what the problem is. Thanks.

here you go :] anyway dog muscles look similar to horse ones :]

Thanks, got any suggestions for the face? As I said, it’s breed specific.

I have a rottie mix, so I was looking at her & your image - you have some basic issues with the jaw & snout as well as the brow & some of the thickness/proportions in the trunk. I dropped your image into photoshop & used liquify to really quickly adjust the proportions a little (I hope you dont mind). Copy & paste it in photoshop over your original to see what I changed.

Thank you Scott!!! That’s what I was looking for for the face, and head. I’ll jump back into ZB in a couple of minutes, and try and fix the problems. Thanks a TON!

Go to:

And look in the Modeling Tutorial section for the ‘Dog Modeling’ Tutorial. It uses XSI but will give you a good idea about a doggie model.

Cheers

My pleasure Rep! Hope it helps.

Great, Great work brother :+1: :+1: :+1:

Man, that’s kinda funny. Not once did I ever think about searching for a dog modeling tutorial… A lot of stuff has been going on here, so I haven’t had the time to do any more modeling on that dog today, but I’ll have plenty of time tomorrow.

Thanks for the help everyone.

The normal-mapped lowpoly spidey guy looks great !! The facial detail got carried very well to the lowpoly…could you post a render of the lowpoly without the normal map ?
As for the dog…well, that softimage tut lemomnando pointed to was pretty good[though it was a labrador]…I’m sure it’ll help ya out:)

Thanks, Sriram, I’ll see about getting that lowpoly render on here a little later.

Sorry I haven’t seen you on IM lately, I’ve had it online all day, but I guess I go to bed before you get up, or get up after you go to bed. This whole time thing can kinda be a pain. I’ll talk to when I can.

Ok, I tried moving some stuff around on the dog, and I think he looks a LOT better now. Scott, that photshopping you did helped out a LOT. I still have some work to do on it, so any suggestions are welcome.

Hi Replica. Is that a perspective screen grab in ZB? just currious because it tends to distort things a bit (I always drop things into Maya to check proportions).

I’d just google image search Rottweilers, mastifs, boxers and any other breed that is in the ballpark for what you’re trying to capture. I think there are some details that you could pick up in the face that you’ll need some photo refference to capture (Im mainly thinking of the upper lip - it should be fleshier and feel like its sitting on top of the jaw/lower lip at the corner of the mouth).

Alternately, you could grab one of these:

Yeah, it’s a ZB perspective grab. I took the low poly into max and modeled it around a pic I have of a rot, but I’ve heard that it still looks too long.

I’ll keep at it, and do more image searching to try and get it to look better. Thanksfor the help.

And here’s a Max render after a little bit of tweaking on the head. I know it still needs a lot of work on the head, I just thought a true perspective render might be cool.

A little more tweaking done to the entire thing. I think I’m pretty damn close, but I’ve never seen a real rotty. Coule use some more crits and comments on this guy, what’s wrong, what’s right.

Anyway, here he is normal mapped.

think his chest is to small, compered to his neck  At least my dog has a much bigger one :stuck_out_tongue:
btw i was on your site, i like the robotic parts of your modles very much :]

Yeah, I think you’re right Slocik, I’ll go ahead and fix that in the low poly. I’m not looking for total realism with this dog, I just want you to be able to know it’s a rottweiler at first glance, ya know?

Well, anyway, I’m gonna fix that chest thing, and see what the mod lead thinks.

these might help - they give some good simple proportions:

Thanks Scott, I got the dog finished, normal mapped, and sent to the mod lead. Along with 2 other models, so now I have about 6 models left to do on this mod. I’m so excited that I might actually make that deadline… But I can’t have that big sigh of relief just yet, as I still have to make a Zombie, and that’s gonna be an involved process.

But things are starting to pick up for me, there’s another project on the horizon, and it looks AMAZING. Can’t spill any beans on it yet, but trust me, the art rocks. And I’m finally out of my funk, and feelin fine. Depression sucks, so I’m really happy to see it go.

Anyway, next on the chopping block is the Soldier, so keep an eye out for him. Until then, thanks for the help, comments, and crits.
