Quake Project: Monster Models for Quake Mod

niiice.
better than most quake 4 models that actualy come with the game even.
if it were my model tho, I would figur eout something else to do with the head, where his eyes , and the part that wraps around where his visor strap would be, it just looks very very flat and detailless. which is sort of oneof th most important parts of a model.
even if you just figure out some type of skin or mechanics to shove in there,
the flatness isnt as good as the rest of the model.
still better than anything ive ever taken time to do.
just stands out a tiny little bit.

Logick, thanks for the comments. I thought it would be kinda fun to have all the models I make for this mod in this thread, just like a sneak peek for everyone here. It has been pretty fun so far, but honestly, I can’t wait to make a model without thinking about polycount later on.

RobCardIV, thanks. I can understand what you’re saying about the face shield, and I will be adding stuff to it, but I’ll probably keep the reflective surface of it, nice and flat. There’s still room for detail around the sides, and that area, so that will get some work.

I’ve been watching the Quake 4 CPL tournament, and kinda getting lost in that, so I didn’t do anywork yesterday, but it was Saturday, so I can do whatever I want on my weekends! MuaaaHaaaaa!!

Anyway, I’ll post more as the details get done. Thanks for the comments

Quick update. All I did here was add some visor-like stuff to the head. I think he’s nearing completion for the high poly version. So the low poly will start soon.

And here he is with the normal map applied. I don’t know, I think I might have to work on the low poly a bit more. We’ll have to see though.

Well, while I’m waiting for approval/changes needed, on this guy, I’m working on a personal project. It’s a monster (surprise surprise), and it’s posed. I’ve never sculpted a posed model before, and while there’s a bit of a learning curve to it, it’s not as hard as I thought it would be.

Anyway, I’ll post that thing when I get it to a presentable stage.

Here’s an personal update if anyone cares anymore. I’m not gonna be able to have any pic updates till Sunday at the earliest. I’m heading over to my bro’s house from wednesday till sunday. That BS I spoke of earlier is actually getting worse, and not better, so I need some time away. It’ll be a kind of working vacation, cause I’m taking my computer, and will continue the work on the mod while I’m gone.

I know it’s not like too many of you really care either way, but this is aimed at the people who might care. I recently heard a quote (from a former wrestler of all people), that kinda fits my current situation. “When you wish you were dying, you know you’re in trouble”. I really hope this little break helps.

So, till Sunday/Monday, enjoy yourselves, and Merry Christmas.

Heh heh … full of seasonal cheer, I see. Maybe you’d be better off leaving the 'puter at home, unless you can’t afford the time off. I always find a short break does wonders for the psyche. Whatever, I hope you have a grand old time.

Model’s looking very cool, incidentally. The very deep creases are most effective. :+1:

Yeah, you could say I got the christmas spirit… I’ll be taking my computer for 2 reasons, I don’t have a lot of time left for these guys, and working is one of the few things that makes me truly happy.

Thanks for the comments on the enforcer. I’m gonna be starting the spider looking Shalrath thing while I’m gone. If I finish that there, I’ll start in on the dog. I’ve never modelled a dog before, so I’ll see how it goes.

Concerned about your quote bro…
hope everything is going well with you or will clear up soon.
Your modeling is going great so hang in there, we all get the “bag of hammers” dropped on us and the secret is there is no secret. Hang in there and overcome. Take care buddy

i think you made the right decision taking work with you, when that happended to me (the troubles i mean) not so long ago, being very busy at work helped me a lot keeping my mind away from bad thoughts…it wont clear things up, just time can do that, but it should help…wish you luck anyway!
and yes soem peaple care
ill be going back to france till january so dont worry if i dont reply to your posts that much! will catch up when back!
take care

heck yeah we care! hang in there bro. have a great xmas in spite of it all. and keep modeling - you rock at it!

abe, have fun in france. like your dark elf model :+1: suppose i should have posted that in your thread! :o

Hey,sorry that i havent been checking on on lately…you know the reason…exams BS[I wont be done with then until Jan 06]
The Enforcer is looking sweet ! He kinda reminds me of one my G.I. Joe toys:lol:
And Merry Christmas,I’m sure you’ll have a good time at your bro’s place[and get more “black eyes” from your nephew;) ]

Have a good time everyone:)

 DAMN DUDE!! Amazing work you have done here. I cant wait to see them in game MY GOD.

Well, I’m back. I didn’t get **** done as far as work goes, though. I did a low poly base for the Shalrath (spider looking dude), and did his uv’s, but that only took about 2 hours. So no real updates for you guys today, sorry. I’ll fix that problem soon enough, though.

thanks for the comments, I’m glad you guys like him. I still think if I had a better designer, my models would look better. I’ll get to the high res Shalrath as soon as I relax after that trip.

On a personal note, thanks to everyone who said they cared, that helps me out a lot. I had a good time at my bro’s place, most notably, playing cards ALL DAY friday with my niece who kicked my ass at just about every game we tried. I did manage to screw up my foot when I opened the back of my bro’s SUV to take out my monitor. The second I opened the door, it fell out and landed edge first right in the middle of my foot. It’s pretty gross looking too, all swollen, purple, and yellow. But the point of this is to say thanks to everyone, and to let you guys know I’m doing a lot better now. Still not %100, but a LOT better.

Ok, so here’s what I got for the Shalrath/spider dude. It looks really weird to me, cause I NEVER do that T stance thing, so I’m not used to doing anatomy in that pose.

Anyway, here he is. Enjoy.

Wicked !:grimacing: That guy looks great ! Ron Weasly wouldnt like him though:laughing:
As for some “crits”…I feel that his arms are too short…

Good to see you back in Action:+1:

Some of the short arms effect is the ZB perspective thing, and the fact that they’re bent forward a bit. The other part of it is the fact that they’re too short. I’ll fix that right away.

I’m gonna start adding some more details to him today, and maybe even get into PM for some skin detail. Updates when they’re ready.

I lengthened his arms, and made a normal map for him. Hope you like him so far.

And one more with some small changes. Enjoy.

Wow, only one comment, hmm… Ah well.

I started the Dog, and have come to the conclusion, I’m not very good at it. I really need to study up on dog anatomy, and bone structure. I got some references, but I can’t seem to get it right.

Anyway, I’ll post the dog when he’s a lot farther along, don’t wanna embarass myself too much here.
