Presenting ZBrush 4R7 (Updated with Summit Recaps)

“but is especially valid for concepts and designs…and so feels more natural to me a bridge to something like Keyshot rather than, say, Vray.”

I don’t see how that is the case at all. Concepting and design is what I do for a living and I STRONGLY prefer GPU rendering. I mean, yeah, there are some things that CPU still does better and may always do better than GPU but GPU is AAA LLOTTTT faster. Also maybe I’m a newb but I have no idea what archiviz means. >.>;

Architecture visualization.

Hi

First of all thank you for those new features !! I would like to see a tutorial how this church picture with those arches are been made. I highly interested in architecture !! Pleaase

That’s right. The beta GoZ also transferred Fibermesh over to Keyshot and it works very well.

Looks like I have to put 250 bucks to side

Unfortunately not just 250 Bucks, before this you will need to buy the keyshot version at 1000 bucks so for me I think it is a few expensive.

read this : Q: Is “KeyShot for ZBrush” a full version of KeyShot?
A: YES! This special edition has all of KeyShot’s features but is designed to work exclusively with the “ZBrush to KeyShot Bridge”. (“KeyShot for ZBrush” is equivalent to KeyShot HD without the importers).

so that mean it’s a custom version of keyshot, no need to buy the full version.

2step4one: I will try to do my best to keep that in mind and doing a video tutorial (with my french accent if it’s a video). It’s easy to build such model in 4R7

No, the $249 introductory price is for the ZBrush Bridge and Keyshot for ZBrush (a full version of Keyshot designed to work exclusively with ZBrush). If you already own KeyShot, or buy it separately then you’ll be able to buy the Bridge separately at a price yet to be announced.

That is not what I had understood, but if it is the case that is really a great news ^^

Marcus is correct. $249 gets you the version of Keyshot that otherwise would cost $1000.

Yes, it is the case.

any chance of getting a similar bridge to marmoset toolbag (since it also supports zbrush polypaint now) , or does the keyshot deal not permit it.

So I downloaded the Keyshot trial. I haven’t gotten A LOT of time to play around with it yet but from what little I was able to accomplish, I can say this: the render times aren’t as bad as I thought they would be (i5core). Granted, this isn’t the dream come true I was hoping for but, well… it’s a nice rendering option that supplants Zbrush’s mehhhh lighting and rendering system.

I hope someday we get to see something like this (can has GPU/CPU hybrid rendering plz?) implemented within Zbrush itself. I can’t speak for anyone else but personally, I would be willing to pay extra for that. For now, I guess this KS-Bridge business will do and 250$ is really not a bad price at all.

So I give this a tentative thumbs up. Count me in.

@Doug, crazy, after reading your post, I actually went and downloaded it. Man, it still looks nice. To bad it got canceled back in 09’. Forgot how cool that software was. Funny, got me to thinking of old software as well, like Pixels3D for the Mac and Animation Master. Wonder if their still around? Anywho, ZBrush rocks.

Just some thoughts/ranting…

Octane uses GPU and the cost is around the same compared to Keyshot ZBrush version.

Keyshot standalone is simplified yet overpriced for what you get out of it when compared to other competitors. I think they cater to big corporations who need something quick/easy for advertisement/products, 1-2K is chump change for them.

Will Keyshot be forgotten or integrated/improved come Zbrush 5? Will Zbrush 5 have its own improved/revamped render system?

I never liked Zbrush render/material visuals at all, it just looks dreary/fake most of the time, even at its best. I was really wanting a new render engine in Zbrush, good physically based shaders/materials. Who know maybe it requires an overhaul to achieve.

Will Pixo charge for Zbrush 5, how much?..Would like to know where I need to invest most in. If so maybe those who bought previous gen will get next gen free.

I hope Pixo don’t go the way of the CLOUD…I don’t always have a connection and hate subscriptions. Forced permanent renting is not cool.

I don’t want to throw around money. Saved up for a while and Got Zbrush at 4r6 less than a year ago and now I am introduced with this nifty render/plugin I wanted Zbrush to handle.

Compared to others 4r7 is the smallest update I have seen released to date including 64 bit beta, took awhile as well. There isn’t much more to add I suppose, but allot can be further improved upon. I’m thinking they have more big polished guns up their sleeve reserved for Zbrush 5, possible overhaul in the works since it is going 64bit.

Rumors of Zb5 on the horizon with possible charge/fee. A big incentive for me finally getting Zbrush was the free upgrades making the price worth it.

I need to be assured Keyshot will be worth investment down the line. Is this the only bridge Pixo has planned? Or will Zb5 feature a plugin system to pick your supported render engine? I don’t want to be suckered into $250 nerfed Keyshot early adopter then something much better comes along.

It just seems unclear at this point in how Pixo is going to handle this. I guess we’ll just have to await details.

I know they aren’t stupid enough to shaft their customers, so far. I am just covering bases/possible outcomes.

Looking forward to more details/news.

I find it a little odd that they didn’t give the slightest indication of when 4r7 would drop, I mean are we talking soon… or winter… ?

Just some thoughts/ranting…

Yeah… this guy’s post summed up pretty much all my thoughts and fears exactly right down to the very pixel.

Well said.

Thanks Pixologic
This is an awesome deal and update :+1:
Looking forward to when it becomes available.

Agree wit Quinum and I will jump on this rant ride…
Sometimes I feel like Pixologic even though creating some fantastic stuff don’t always cater to what users have been asking for. (retopo tools back when it was only possible with ZSphere like everyone was crying about how bad it was and then of course the automated systems have arrived which is fantastic but never the ideal choice for production ready tool. Polypainting do I really need to go there.)

But look at it this way originally Zbrush first and foremost is a sculpting application. Why would you want to compete with professional renderers in the first place so they have created inbuilt renderer which is very eeem good only to showcase grey renders. So this is where integration with Keyshot comes in and I am sure it will be updated otherwise what is the point to go through all this trouble.

I wish they showed their roadmap of what is going to happen. For me personally if they took care of retopo tools and pixel texturing as well as being 64bit then that is worth upgrading for a fee - if they continue creating bells and whistles that don’t really change the game then not so much interesting.

Don’t mean to disappoint all those who are super excited I was actually very excited myself but with each day of presentation I just saw pretty much the same thing accentuating on low poly modeling which is really nice don’t get me wrong but not exactly what I personally was waiting for.

Cheers,
Serge.
