Ok! is time to see the GEM
I dont want it like a xchrismas gift:D
are they suppose to announce the release date in fall or release r7 this fall
From the FAQ:
Q: When will ZBrush 4R7 be released?
A: We currently anticipate that 4R7 will be released during the autumn of 2014. Upgrade instructions and feature list will be posted at a later date.
Autumn has just begun. Hopefully the beta testing goes smoothly and the release stays on schedule. As with many that came before, Iām really looking forward to this next release.

Thanks for the great input and great words. I watched youāre tutorial on youtube. What can I say, BRILLIANT! Canāt believe itās been on there since 4R4 and I missed it.
Iāve got to blow your trumpet here Michael - learnt so many new things watching, even with using ZB for quite a while - Recommend community! whilst youāre waiting) Who needs 4R7!!! Great if you could do some more fella!! (gumroad? ;))
I take it you are beta testing 4R7? Sorry I mean, I āHOPEā youāre beta testing 4R7!! Pixologic are missing a trick if youāre not involved in this release. Actually, MAH and Pixologic, would it be worth putting the youtube tut. on Zclassrooms? It might give the community some thirst for low poly modelling in ZB before the release and would be easy to find. Now Iāve said that, Iāve just thought that the link is probably in the Tutorials Link on ZBC. Sorry to say ZBC, but good tutorials need to be in ZClassrooms. For example, Tom Paul did a great one on youtube, but has now taken it down (probably due to his commercial ones. donāt blame ya mate! and also recommended! if you havenāt got them)
Cheers
P.S. My missus is working abroad for 3 weeks, so a release would be great right now. Am currently in the process of perfecting that sickly dying cough and planting the seed of not feeling tooooo well at work! Sorry about the emotional blackmail Pix. but how long do I need to keep this up??
Unfortunately I do have to make a miraculous recovery, cos I have a full schedule for Xmas Functions through December! Thanks.
I am looking at finally buying a commercial version of Zbrush but I am wondering if I bought it through a retailer whether I would be entitled to the free upgraded from 4R6?
I donāt really want to wait until 4R7 is out in case there is a price hike. Any help would be great, thanks!
Hang in there lads and lasses. Better Pixologic releases a bug free 4r7 than one full of problems. Leave them to it so they can give us a great upgrade.
Thank you Treece for your kind words. I intend to make more tutorial videos once ZR7 is released. Canāt wait to see all the new toys.
As for selling things, nah. I would rather make a donations site than straight out ask for money. Pixologic has been awesome to me in that I keep getting free updates. Iāve said this before and I will say it again. I won ZBrush in a contest. Making an image with the 1.23b demo. Then, I had to wait like 6 months or something like that because they were in the middle of updating to the 1.5 version. That was a really fine time. The Birth of ZSpheres or Ziffs as we called them way back when. =) I saw this and my heart leaped.
See, Z has always been a gift and it changed my life. Canāt put a price on that and I never will. This is also in honor of the many users I idolized and even had the chance to hang out with in IRC Chat (YouTube wasnāt born yet). They would take a lot of time out of their day to hang and teach and share Z. I am and will always be forever grateful to those guys. I even had the opportunity to share Z with Rick Baker when he found us in a chat or two. How cool is that?!
As for testing, I did that when Z4 first came out. I think they asked me because of my tenure and contributions. Plus it was the 10th anniversary. I am afraid though that, not only was I nowhere near as awesome as any of the other testers, I was also in the middle of losing my teaching job so⦠that kinda pulled my focus (I lost all program support). =( I donāt think I was much of a help to them. It was an honor though. I will say this though, those guys sign NDAās so they wonāt share anything. They canāt. I used to try to find out about beta stuff back in the day with old Vet users. Never worked, lol. Thatās why I just wait now and see when its released. Itās like spoiling Christmas by peeking at your presents. Donāt you spoil my Zxmas now!!! lol
Se, we all love Z or we wouldnāt be here. But for me its more than Love and Me and Community. Itās Home. Felt like it since day one. I havenāt done too much here in the last few years because, well losing the job was more of an atom bomb than I expected and Iām still trying to get back on track. But, I do have Z and YouTube and people out there like you floating about, keeping me smiling. Thatās why I donāt complain to much about waiting around for Pixologic or even the things in life for that matter. I always know, no matter how bad it gets or how long it takes, Itās just a page in another chapterā¦its not The Book⦠and this book has a lot of Z in it, Baby! =) Next Chapterā¦Z4R7!!! Lets hang in there folks. This one looks like it is gonna be a good one!
Can you imagine Z5?!?! My heart leaps at that thought!
Oh, these are exciting times!
Cheers, and Many Many Thanks,
~MAH~
PS - Phantom88 - If Iām not mistaken, Yes. Everyone who owns a license gets the upgrade.
I can confirm it since i did that at a retailler site (3Dvf shop) 5 years ago when zbrush 4 was released, you will not have any problem with it since it was sell as a disk or download with a serial key. Itās that you need to register at pixologic support or something like that⦠Once done, you will be able to get free upgrade until you died old enough to be grand-pa⦠Hum i shouldnāt be kinda spooky because i was kind in halloween mood XD;
Well, i did bough zbrush 4 during my birthday and i can say it was one of the best gift i ever get, itās even more awesome when you werenāt aware about free life-time upgrade !
(I wish i took the anniversary version but i took the normal version by accident)
Hey folks, first time poster but just wanted to drop a note since everyone (myself included) is awaiting the new release. Like most of you Iām very excited for the new release especially since I have a passion for hard surface modeling. The reason Iām dropping this note is although Iāve been reading ZBrushCentral for a long time I finally had a reason to post something where I wouldnāt embarrass myself (too much) with terrible sculpts etc. I like to think that Iām creative but far from a talented artist and very much still learning ZBrush. So why fill up the post? Well Iām a principal software programmer. Been a programmer / ops / automation person for a very long time. Iāve built consumer products and high end enterprise applications for both very large and very small companies. With that in mind I know everyone is very excited and everyone wants it right now (myself included) would even love to sign an NDA, but thats beside the point.
The fact of the matter is that software development is very much an art, the only problem is that if you miss something minor when trying to get something out to your customers (minor to you as the dev) it may end up being such a huge break in functionality that all the hard work youāve done doesnāt matter. Think of it this way, Iām sure all of us can agree that the Mona Lisa is an incredible work of art. Now lets introduce a bug that wasnāt tested during development due to trying to rush it out the door. A representation of this on the Mona Lisa may be somewhere along the lines of the eyes being cut out by a serrated edge knife. Well some of you may say that that would never happen in development but itās a very real thing, and Iāll give you this example that happened more than a decade ago for me.
We had an extremely exciting product release that exceeded expectations by a huge amount from all the stakeholders and beta testers. We were nearing the end of beta testing and a new bug report was received for an issue that was a fairly simple fix, it was nothing more than a very easy to find memory leak that was caused by only one specific tool. Since it was such a simple fix and right before release day our PM at the time decided that we could just package up the software and send it out. That mistake cost us almost 4 weeks of work to properly fix the issue and in the end the customers hated the product so much due to the ripple effect caused by the bug in other areas of the software that it was a complete fail.
So I cannot stress enough that āfallā (3 month) window of delivery is not that bad. Why is it a window and not a specified date? Because there is always a chance that a beta tester / QA / developers may find a breaking bug that would require several devs to fix it over a course of a few days (itās rare but it happens) and then testing has to be done from start to finish again by both QA teams and beta testers to make sure nothing else broke as part of the change. All these things take a huge amount of effort, by a large amount of people with good coordination.
So next time before you get frustrated or angry at a launch window keep this in mind. Most developers / ops / and qa people that are in a launch window work way more than 8 hours a day to make sure everything is perfect, so that us, the final recipients will be happy and enjoy the new release.
Here is how it will work.
Five Man team, one to pilot the stealth helicopter that will land on the Pixologic roof.
(It is estimated that 12:30a.m. would be the oportune time in California)
Four members of the ZSquad will rappel descend, two on the stairway, two on the fire escape.
They will be equipped with the usual armaments including flash, bang grenades.
Whichever team makes it to the research and development department will be assigned the task of obtaining the
information.
All team members will be equipped with SansThumb drives.
Upon obtaining the data the team members will return to the helicopter.
Data will be immediately downloaded and burned onto mulitiple cdās.
These CDās will be mailed to the forum users who have made financial contributions to the project.
Computers estimate the chances of success at 60 percent.
Beats waiting.
(More information about money drops, bill sizes forthcoming.
Small nonsequential bills are the norm.)
Youāre welcome MAH and by the way find your ethics very refreshing. Gotta love this community. Will most definitely be keeping an eye on your tube channel for the future. (Thatās not a double entendre by the way!!!)

Like the plan, but itās slightly flawed mate. I for one believe that all this tech and military hardware that Joseph has been producing are just not concept or prototypes. Take the search light at the beginning of this Thread. I reckon they have 3D Printed all this stuff (Hence why Joseph Drust did 3DPrinting course on Zbrushworkshops) and populated the Pixologic building inc ase of such likely attacks by impatient Zbrush users.
Secondly, on succession of operation, youāre more than likely to be lifted for conspiracy by posting your plans on ere!!
Meaning⦠youāll probably be locked up in the clink and that would just increase the time for you to get ones hands on 4R7.
I would also like to remind everyone that they said āWe currently anticipateā¦ā That is not to say āwe willā¦ā
So⦠yeahā¦
Treece;
Odds are not that bad, we have an inside person who will unlock the doors.
(Same people you pay for Top Row!!!)
I dont see my self using the low poly feature to start a character ( like the examples showed). I hope to god they they completely redo retpology tools. I would also love more zremesh controls. ā¦
As each new update for Zbrush has been released have always appreciated the blood
lust atmosphere of the forum in the long days preceeding release.
When the employees of Pixologic look out their windows and see the unruly crowds with
torches, etc, throwing bottles and pumping up their animal anger, do you think it makes
them (employees) happy or sad?
If I were working hard on a new update and heard an ungrateful crowd, I know how
I would feel:
WORK SLOWER, MUCH MUCH SLOWER!!!
What I think I am hearing is, āAnother tease please.ā

I look at it as Christmas presents under a tree. You have to stare at the boxes and wonder what is in them and some are cool with waiting. There are others that will shake the boxes and have a fit about it when they cant open the present. Such things are to be expected.
I would think the developers should be proud that their application inspires such creativity and will always be the presnt under the tree that ALL the kids want more than any other present. I seriously doubt that there is any unprofessional behavior such as slowing development.
with this particular crowd ungrateful is not the right word. anxious, excited, anxious, really anxious, those are words more fitting. this crowd loves pixo and its the only software outside of games that probably gets this this kind revelry. I love pixo for who they are and what they have done for us. and im pretty sure that most everyone here is the same. some are more impatient than others but it all still speaks to the love they have for zb. so i would not say ungrateful, i would say extremely anxious!
When it is finally released?
Lol! To beautifully illustrate Lokiās point.
