GAAAH- Pixo should never have teased the new features at the ZB summit… It would have given us a few peaceful months.
I’m eager for the official R7 release like everyone else, but honestly I can’t imagine doing anything more in the upgrade that the previous ZB can’t do.
It has almost been a year since my purchase and I’m still getting euphoric moments identifying previous tools many uses.
Pixo Developers are definitely highly FUTURISTIC and HIGHLY artist first DRIVEN with industry growth second, from my perspective.

… if you ever tried low poly modeling in maya you’d know why people are dying to get their hands on 4R7 …
My workflow includes Maya… I purchased Adobe Ultimate Suite and Zbrush at the same time. I’m a computer animation student which has put restrictions on my workflow to figure it out in one app as much as possible and as I mature, I’ve not modeled in Maya for anything. I purchased Topogun also for re-topology. Great app but hadn’t had to use it much lately either since I discovered how to combine the topology tools in Zbrush.
I work in an animation studio. Maya is great for animation and production work. Modeling in maya is clunky and time consuming in my opinion though. I’m hoping the new low poly tools are going to speed up the modeling process.

Personally, I tend to model in Max instead of Maya because of the ease of use in Max. Maya is king for animation, but Max is for me is much better for modeling.
Like many others, I would prefer to do more modeling in ZBrush and I really look forward to the new tools in 4R7.
the new Maya modeling tools are amazing, and closes the gap between modeling in max and maya
Ehi, any date for the release, any idea???
The best12 you are certainly right about the gap in modeling of 3DSMAX and MAYA. I started out modeling in MAX, because I fell in love with swift loops, inset, turbo smooth and edge extrude modeling… 6 mos later I was sticking with Maya and currently I’m solely ZB.
What I’ve realized is if you developed proper techniques in modeling you can find that your techniques will work in any application, rather its C4D, Maya, MODO, or Max. They all share the same tools or a plug in to give you a particular function. I feel all we are arguing about when its comes to modeling in any app, is the aesthetics of the UI and the keyboard shortcuts.
Almost like when you drive a car for years and they have big cup holders, the gas tank is on the right hand side etc…
Then you drive another and everything is the opposite… Suddenly you have strong opinion about which is better.
This isn’t by accident, developers condition us in this manner for this exact purpose. To stay loyal to a particular brand. Often people hate steep learning curves so this causes you to defend what you know.
But great artist work in them all…
Well stated Jovon!
Yes, bravo! Very well put indeed.
Man I’m done watching this thread for a release of 4R7 cause autumn is almost over and I don’t think I’ll see the update any time soon. Not mad just sad I can’t play with new toys til’ Christmas, so I’m thinking we won’t see anything til’ then or spring 2015.
I’ll say this to cheer you up. We are only about 33% the way through Fall. Fall ends and winter begins on Dec. 22nd. No matter, I look forward to any release at any time. Being here over twelve years now and many many many many releases has given me some sense of patience when it comes to updates. Heck, I love Z so much, I would gladly do it all over again another 12 years. =) Hang in there man, It’s not as bad you think. Babysitting the tread multiple times a day definitely doesn’t help. I also think of it this way; The more time they spend, the more awesome and less buggy it will be. I prefer they take what time they need to make sure we all receive a smooth running product. I’ll leave on this though; a great stew takes a lot of time to cook, but doesn’t one have to taste it along the way to check for it’s deliciousness?! Pleeeeeeaaaasssseeeee?
for those who are throwing away other apps and staying zbrush. How are you going to get displacement maps and normal maps to render or use characters and game engines

You use the normal map and displacement map functions in zbrush, you export the lowpoly model, the normal maps, the displacement maps, the texture maps :).
And as I said Maya is not without its own benefits. It’s great for pipelines and animation.
It’s just that the modeling in Maya feels clunky to me.
Instead of designing full time I spend half my time fixing geometry or trying to figure out the best way to smooth an object and keeping the geometry as low as possible. I’m a designer, I want to design and spend as little time as possible on geometry technicalities.
I just discovered that it is possible to use a unified skin on primitives that don’t even have to be made editable.
Banal for many of you, yes, but I am pretty much convinced that 4.6 still has many little doors you haven’t opened yet, that there is still a lot of things one can do with it that you haven’t ever done, or even know you can indeed do with it.
The better and more thorough you know your 4.6, the better you’ll be prepared for 4.7. But believe me: it won’t make you all of the sudden a better artist. Or have more fun, excitement and creativity.
We all want shiny new toys, but never forget that new shoes tend to hurt untill they have adapted themselves to your feet.
It will be ready when it will be ready.
This is my final entry in this thread.
When Pixologic demoed the latest ZBrush, they gave (me at least) the impression that the release was imminent.
There was no mention of a release date, it simply appeared to be in a usable state and their excitement
felt as though they wanted to share at the earliest convenience.
I’ve checked this thread daily since it was started and I’m growing impatient waiting for a 64bit release.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m happy with the tool that still sits in front of me,
but the knowledge that a 64bit release is out there, waiting to be abused, is slightly infuriating.
Some hint of a release date would at least prevent me from obsessively checking the boards.
Thanks for the cheer Mahlikus The Black I appreciate the reminder. I know I said I wouldn’t check but I do. I haven’t used ZBrush as much as you have in fact half as long but it’s the best toy in the world and I would still even play with ZB3 if I had to. Thanks!
Pixo’s Facebook page says in the final beta testing stages as of Oct 1. Not sure what that indicates, but it gives a bit of a timeline on where they’re at.
Heck Yeah!!!
