Presenting ZBrush 4R7 (Updated with Summit Recaps)

Is Dec 19 if winter begins on Sunday Dec 21-- according to Teh Google.

This whole thing baffles me. Are you talking about meteorological or astronomical seasons? What happened to the calander seasons of

Spring - Mar, Apr, May
Summer - Jun, Jul, Aug
Autumn - Sep, Oct, Nov (Fall)
Winter - Dec, Jan, Feb

is this not the case anymore?

How Funny! I have never heard of calendar seasons. We’ll sure see soon what Pixologic follows, that’s for sure!

@Sigmund Hentze–Does your email actually say “end of the fall”? I also received an email from Pixologic, thanking me for participating in the ZBrush Summit, but the 4R7 release was said to simply be “Fall 2014”, which could place it anywhere between late September and basically Christmas. Are our emails different?

Can you please confirm that your email does, in fact, narrow it down to “end of the fall”, which would pretty much mean not before December?

Thanks:)

there is something that I just realized : if zbrush will be released during fall 2014, then did you noticed that James Cameron will start the production of avatar 2 at the end of 2014, does that mean James is waiting for the 64Bits version ?

I know that the first avatar use heavily zbrush for anything like plant or creatures. so, that explain why he did wait 7 years to be able to work on avatar 2 ! well done pixology !

Hi friends, If I may ask a question. Is the new keyshot made for zBrush software rendered as zBrush or do you need a fast and usually expensive graphics card? It looks amazing!

the answer is : keyshot use 100% CPU nothing else ! there is the proof : https://www.keyshot.com/keyshot4/manual/overview/cpu.html

Thank you my friend:D

Will 4R7 have assets optimised for a retina screen?

Retina Screens? I thought only Ipads and Iphones have those. Are you actually able to get Zbrush to run effectively on an Ipad? I wasn’t aware that it had enough Ram or processing power to Run Zbrush.

There are Macbook Pros with retina screens as well. Haven’t had any particular problems with ZBrush on mine regarding the display though I imagine it’d be a problem running the Windows version through bootcamp. A 15" screen with a res of 2880 * 1800 causes problems on the windows side (all your icons would be tiny). OSX runs virtual lower resolutions.

I have come to think that the developers of Zbrush are not human. That they are actually space aliens posing as humans and they are giving us this wondrous technology that humans are not evolved enough yet to produce. Sort of like giving to charity to help us with our evolution. HAHA! :stuck_out_tongue:

Is it still under development? If no then post it! I need it NOWWW!! HAHAHA!

I was just working on some things just now and I stopped to see when the release date is since I could really use the new features.

goes back to wrangling the old 4R6

@Gridlost

It runs very nicely on an rMBP but even at 1440 x 900 the lettering is a bit choppy. At 2880 x 1800 it doesn’t really matter. It does give you a lot of real estate for but at the trade of of tiny icons, which often does not matter though.

@ dogbone
Why aren’t you running P2?

Any further news or teasers from Pixologic while we wait

  1. as many request a Subtool menu which can group similar Subtools to create a smoother workflow
  2. better measurement system, specially for hard surface modeling

Can’t wait
its looking good and as is will speed my workflow up!

Ziggy

I agree with Sigmund Hentze (and many others).

These are not jawdropping innovations Pixologic is known for
But folder system for subtools and measurement system for acurate modeling
are the most useful improvements for Zbrush I can think of.

One thing I would have loved to see added in and I don’t think it would have been hard to do is allow the user to set their “start folder”. When I start up ZBrush it’s always pointed at the default location but it would be nice to have the “Load Tool” start in the GoZ Projects directory where I keep all my ZTL and OBJ files.

Nice video thanks. I noticed in the first instance when you sent it over to Keyshot, the command line says ‘added ****** uvs’ per subtool. So I take it the plugin is automating the uv process?? If so, I’m presuming this is using one of the Zbrush UV Tiling functions??

Cheers

No sorry that was my mistake, some of the subtools in that video had UVs and others didn’t. Point is that ZBrush sent the colour/painting across with all the subtools.

Thanks

Looking forward to the traditional poly HS tools in 4R7!

Do you think a GoZ pipeline would be made for Marmoset Toolbag2 or allegorithmic Substince Designer?
IMHO, Bunkspeed Shot, and Luxion Keyshot are both a bit overpriced, so what is all the sudden hype with keyshot?
It seems like Pixologic should want to promote their own render engine a bit more? It is pretty awesome.
