Presenting ZBrush 4R7 (Updated with Summit Recaps)

I have Modo. It’s fine yet I still do everything in Maya.

Zbrush and Maya has the best control with a Wacom tablet for my preferences. Modo is just too buggy and I always get frustrated with it when I really get into a project. Trust me… after using Modo over along period of time you will start noticing limitations that are extremely ANNOYING…

Maya has been proven and improved for years based on professional users input.

Zbrush is really improving workflow and saving us all allot of money and time from app jumping…

One consolation is they can be set in Keyshot. Lens focal length, DOF etc.

This is true. For what I do, I really need to be able to set focal length.

I’m going to be trying out marmoset and see how well it competes with Keyshot. As much as I like the idea of a KS-bridge, I really don’t like being limited to such a small resolution and I would prefer a GPU rendering option. Still… the idea is very appealing.

Maya has been proven and improved for years based on professional users input.

Isn’t the full version of Maya like 5k though? >.>;

Dont want to get off topic, But I only use Modo for Topo and Unwrapping as modo tools for them are great. I do all my highpoly in zbrush and maybe lowpoly in R7. I could not get the hang of the crazy interface Maya brings  But its all personal choice.

Sorry OT but just had a weird panicky realiziation: Please don’t make ZBrush 5 subscription based!!! What an annoying trend that is.

Fingers crossed for Subtool groups, similar to Photoshop’s layer groups in this release :o

Where do people keep getting this idea from? I have been hearing it but I haven’t actually seen any sources.

Bean counters. Hate them all.

found this interview on keyshot to zbrush from SIGGRAPH 2014

All applications are eventually going to have an option for subscriptions… Providing consumers multiple options is the fair way to accommodate all.

Or suffer the wrath of hackers which generally they don’t care if it’s 20 bucks they are going to do what they do…

Options allow artist to follow their conscience and stick to a legitimate result. Not having options or demos is like leaving hundreds of $100 dollar bills in the passenger seat of an unlocked luxury car parked in a bad neighborhood, that temptation can force the best to commit a crime.

Younger and younger artist are getting involved and they are learning from online based sites such as Digitaltutors.com or Lynda.com, instead of going to non-traditional colleges that are extremely expensive such as FullSail.edu…

So they don’t have the care package that universities provide with the nice cpu and all the thousand dollar programs…

ZBrush

OPTION 1: Subscription based - $40 dollars a month- activated by logging into your pixologic account

Option 2: Or ONE time fee for $800 includes updates

Option 3: Academic: $100 annually

No way I would pay $40.00 a month to run a program. No way. Hell, Adobe doesn’t charge that much for their subscriptions. LOL

ya… and a monkey will fly out my butt when that happens.

No thank you. the Current Model is working. No need to change it.

I am sick to death of paying through the nose for my software.

I blew $500 on Zbrush 3.1 it was the best buy I ever made. I spent an aditional 350$ on an intuos wacom tablet. I savedand saved for those. At that time it was a reachable goal. I will not pay thousands for continual use of Zbrush over the next many years of my use of it. Many Many Many others do agree with me. Many buy Zbrush because of the free updates. As for hackers… they are dealt with.

Not everyone who uses Zbrush works for some ridiculous Hollywood Media Firm who bleeds money like blood from an uncooked bag of Hagus.

A significant portion of us are hobby artist, who legitimately paid for zbrush.

40$ and month my ass. 800$ a year??? ya right.

Subscription based plans may work for a small few; however, what of those who work in a disconnected environment?

The cracking angle as a reason to move it subscription based does not make the cut either. There will always be a way around it given “desire”, “time”, and “opportunity”.

If a company puts out a great product and backs it up with great support - they will never have a problem taking my money.

AKA: Pixo! BTW: ZB4R7 x64 + Keyshot - Please Pixo take my $250.00:D

My 2 cents spent.

I would feel exactly the same way if the resolution wasn’t so small. XC 4.1 megapixels. I also wish they had gone with a GPU renderer but hey, I’m still interested and I might still spend the money depending on what more comes out about it.

i WANT SUBSCRIPTION BASE

If you watched the video I posted earlier in this thread showing me testing the Keyshot beta GoZ plugin for ZBrush, you will have seen me sending a non UVd model to Keyshot complete with polypainted texture and fibremesh hair. The new bridge goes even further by sending ZBrush material over also.

Guys subscriptions are coming, regardless how you feel about it…

But it’s not a problem for anyone it’s a solution for newcomers…

If you already have a license, why are you even commenting? I never said 800 annually…

I said either subscription 40 monthly

or ONE TIME 800

or if your a hobbyist 100 yearly

That’s fair and ZB is worth it

Thanks. I haven’t seen the Goz video yet. Will do cheers. Thought I missed something on the summit vids.

kind regards

Sorry but I can’t take that at face value, only Pixo know what the future of ZBrush is.
Posting wild guesses is merely hijacking this thread, which is about 4R7.

I can’t find where you posted the video? Can you please direct me to it?
Thanks

Boy. You have only been here a year.

Sit back enjoy the software for a few more years before you decide to pontificate about the slimy virtues of other greedier software companies.

Subs are not here… and they will not stay. Subs They will only punish legitimate purchasers like myself. Go back to trolling some pointless forum.
