Pixolator Rock Challenge (The technique has been cracked....see page 7)

Thanks, MTB!

I understood your pottery reference farther up (page 8), but had a hard time conceptualizing what the Blur brush was doing with those two layers

But now it makes sense – areas are emerging or submerging relative to the other layer as the pixols are blur-brushed toward an average zdepth

Brilliant! – think I might have to sit down for a moment

Bravo!
Very cool discoveries :D, Kudos for starting this thread Lonnie!
Well done MTB :)…I don’t think Pix could have done a better script himself!;D
Heh, ZBrush is getting down and dirty!

congrats mike… a job well done. pixolator would be very proud of you… thanks

Thanks everyone for the great comments!

Here are three more tests.

Can someone post a script showing this example? I’m being a little slow, I know that 2 duplicate layers override each other - pixols override each other, what does the blur brush do exactly… and what’s an average normal…

A step by step at least to see the effects of this “antiquing” process?

If we’re going for Alpha Century, we need a script!

Btw, nice landscaping MTB

Click the Distressed Z image on page 7 gummie (the picture with the orange outline).
This will download the zscript.

Ah, doh, I didn’t see that one - I lost track of the page count. :+1:

EDIT: Brilliant, MTB… I never would have thought you could get 2 duplicate layers to work well together. Great logic

Excellent show Mike, congratulations!!! A wonderful Zscript you created to illustrate it! Thanks man!
Super cool work… I thought Pix was only using one layer… It never even occured to me otherwise!
Best Regards,
Michael

Amazing work here. Mahlikus, you are a true discoverer! (and your TriShader skin material tules, too  )

It’s been very interesting to watch this thread progress, even though I was too sissy to participate in the challence myself (I, er, had my mind occupied with other things :o ).

Next, I guess Pixolator is going to present a new shader in the upcoming version of ZBrush that does this all in one pass? (didn’t he mention something about a special material setting? Or was this actually it?)

hey mike, or anybody out there with some free time… could you please create a step by step with pdf,… or a tex file… that way i could print it out and follow along that way… scripts are really good for a visual but i would like a readable version… just so it sticks to my old brain cells… thanks.

Hi Dr
You can put a break to the script speed
(stop tempo with putting the mouse on the up side left corner Zbrush Logo)
Take a photo and restart

Hi MtB
Your method can works with more than 2 layers :qu:
Layers 1+2 for your first effect, layer 3+4 for another effect(but with always your method) etc
Pilou

This technique rocks! Thanks MTB and Mentat.

right on, it rocks  - with a little more experience in this technique it sould be great for doing snowfields, too

bravissimo, MTB :+1: :+1: :+1: and so on

Sorry I haven’t had the opportunity to particpate in this challenge due to the real world, but it has been a pleasure being able to sneak a peek here and there of all the images and comments on this thread. Some Zground breaking work has definitely been exhibited to say the least. Keep up the outstanding work ya’ll. :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Hi all,
i want to say a BIG THANK to MTB and Mentat7.
I love your method to search the truth … :+1: :+1: :+1:
The method you discover and explain are beatiful.

Thank You again

Super super super tnx to Michael and Lonnie !!! Really great zMASTER !!! Well done a tnx again !!! :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Here is a combination of the Distressed Z look and the Z-Tolerance trick as discussed earlier in this thread. The cool thing is that you can use Z-Tolerance settings on most all of the tools and you can affect each layer differently. What you see here are a combination of the Single Layer brush, the Shading Enhancer brush, Hilighter II brush, and Colorizer brush…each utilizing Z-Tolerance settings of .03 and each used DIFFERENTLY on each of the two layers. Very very cool! I did some final tweaking on the ADJUSTMENTS graph in the render pallet in order to liven up the colors a little more.

looks cool mentat , I havent had time to experiment with it yet.

Congratulations to MTB for figuring it out , great work mate

That looks very cool Mentat, I especially like the background for some reason. Colors look great.

And cheers MTB for coming up with the solution  :+1: This is going to be fun experimenting with.

Muwhahahaha…a quick MRGBZ grab, apply the texture as an alpha to a Plane 3D, inflate and smooth a few times…duplicate the layer…apply the Distressed Z effect (yes, a second time!)…a few Render ADJUSTMENTS and voilla! You have this rather cool looking toon shaded effect.
