painting methods - let´s paint together and have fun (page 3)

Hi Ze
 You take the theory of colors for a Yeti’s patchwork ?
Your are a surrealist through and through

I don’t use any advanced brushes for keep the surprise of the discovery to the newbecommings
and make a conceptual Tut the more little possible
Pilou

   - but what you did with the smudge >>> very much advanced, no??? Tried it, and it is so much fun: two methods just via CTRL!!
Hmmm, there is CERTAINLY more of this stuff in your toolbox…??

Good tip, Frenchy- for beginners and not-so beginners both.

Hi Ze
The smudge brush is the better approach for paint!
You stir the colors with delectation with it
You can make crazzy drapped with it! (see my Personnal gallery the oldest)
You make somptuous sky with it ! DeeVee is a specialist of this ! Sky1
Sky 2
And all handles of my other brushes are broken
Pilou

definitely a mountain, Pilou!

i think another smudge brush tip should be added here for those who might have missed it: the color blend modifier that comes with the smudge brush allows to add another colour at various rgb levels while smudging others (= not holding down ctrl).

sorry for arriving here that late: i wanted to step into this wonderful and inspiring thread with a painting of my own - but havent even started one yet :frowning: fantastic paintings and tips everyone! :+1: :+1: :+1:

  • juandel

hi frenchy, welcome and thanks for nice tip ! will try ctrl-smudge immediately…

now, stupid question from me  how do you get the colorpalette on the canvas ?

and juandel, its never too late  will be happy if you join in.

Hi Kokoro
For the palette
It’s writing on the last line of the tut
Just move the mouse on the original palette
(I don’t know where it is on your own interface on the left, right, bottom,…
with the Ctrl pressed and move it anywhere you want on the Canvas !!!
Of course you can move it after in another place always on the Canvas !!!
(or erase it in reput out of the Canvas!
And the more magic is that you can make this with quasi all tools of the Interface

Hope this help!
Pilou
Ps Zbrush has a rare ergonomy !!!

whoops, i read your tut tooo speedy.

thanks for getting me onto it. this indeed looks very ergonomic.

 Here’s my little entry.

I really like this painting Gummie… :+1:
The brushstrokes and the vibrant hues work really well together, and the painting ‘works’ for me…You should do more painting. You have a nice feel for 2D work, and a good compositional sense as well…

Nice one! :sunglasses:

welcome gummie. i like your image too  very lively colors. did you use only paint brush, or also some different technique ?

I used only the Simple brush and the smudge brush in the actual painting, then added some bluish tint with the single layer brush and a low intensity value around the highlight ray (to the background trees).

The simple brush was modelled after a paintbrush, with draw height reduced to 22 and alpha 7 used.

The technique is retentive after watching the Bob Ross method of painting when he had his painting series on national public television. I drew strokes for the background then changed color and cut in the ground plane, then the trees were added, single strokes and then drew in a basic color for the branches. Then a lighter color was used and gone over most of the branches to add volume and texture. Then the white was added on the trunks.
Then the smudge brush to blend in the various textures created along the trunks and branches.
Then additional highlights were added for volume.

Some additional rays and added tint, render adjustments.

Script tinkering nuked 2/3 document saves.
I will have to get the script working to reproduce the middle state, since the final is already stored in jpg format. So if I can manage, I’ll post it.

Hi Gummie
Cool tut of “action painting”
Pilou Polock

hey thanks a lot gummie. i will try that out too !

hey Frenchie: I’m not sure but your painting on page 10 reminded me of Janis Joplin somehow, maybe looking for her Southern Comfort

hey Grub: from my pov, your Prince Zelf on page 8 is a hottie  – full of green vitality – cool how you used the glowing green in the eyes, headband and earring – it makes him seem like a custodian or steward – I don’t think I have seen this kind of symbolism depicted before in this way – also cool how the staff is positioned in regard to the sun, as if drawing down the energy :+1:

Hey havran
You have a fertile imagination
Here the original

And the very regretted
Janis

Unfinished…and always will be…the rewards don’t make it worth finishing. I’m going back to "real world’ painting as it is a lot easier, faster and more rewarding.

It’s not digital painting but maybe that’s will help someone Nice lesson of painting
Pilou

hi, all, sorry for not taking care of you  i was a few days in holiday at the northsea, bird watching  rather stormy though…

hey frenchy, your link is unfortenuately only for speedy conncections…

hi, ed_the_atom, thanks for posting  why is real world painting more speady and easy ? since you do not have undo ? i cannot see me painting without undo…

Sorry Kokoro ! It was not stipulate in the original :frowning:
But how can you load the posts of the Zbc with a low connection ?
There are a lot of images !
That’s should be a long time loading ?
Have happy painting!
Pilou
