As 3D-Coat creators we ask you not to use the program for making pictures which would increase vices, especially pictures that would provoke dissolute thoughts. We all have responsibility before God and before mankind for everything we’re doing.
for me that’s the main difference, that should hold off every serious artist from 3d coat: zbrush does not tell you what you may or may not create with it.
i do not support religious extremist, no matter of what kind.

haha you cant be serious, they really have that on their main page ? haha crazy, but the app is great, jus kind of slow ;/
To be fair, the next paragraph on the 3D Coat website reads:
“We can not (and don’t want!) control your activity. That is a request and not a legal demand. We completely realize that many people may dislike the request placed on the official web site and that it may cause less selling. However, our conscious’ demand is more important for us than our income.”
I’m a hardcore atheist myself, but there is no actual attempt on the part of the 3D Coat creators to control what users create with the tool – it’s a slightly-silly request, which we are free to ignore when we create our sexy 3D babes.
Andrew is the coolest man on earth!
And 3DCoat is freakin awesome,it is growing SO fast, the guy is making update each weeks and does feature request on a daily basis sometimes working 14 hours a day.
Comparing 3DCoat and ZB is too loong,I would write a full four pages of features…of advantages and disavantages. But…know that the 2 Together makes a hell of a team.
You can use voxels(infinite topology with booleans support) and automatic mesh generation(quadrangulation) to make yourself a crazy basemesh and then use Zb Project All to create your subdivison levels and sculpt higres details.
You can send your polypainting work in 3DCoat and stack em as layers and keep working the textures directly on the lowpoly(per-pixel painting).
(with diff,bump,spec and occlusion)
The retopology tools are like a supertopogun,so you can export you zb higres and retopo over it.
And in 5 days the new update will allows you to bake shaders with one click directly from multimillions imports sculpt to your lowres gamemodel.
It even bakes the bump map of the shader down to the lowpoly normal map…
Bellow 300$ with better texturing tools than bodypaint and crazy retopology tools(better than nex, topogun and polyboost) I didnt even asked myself if or not I intended to do 3d Porn in the near future.
I must stop,I`ll get carried away…
hehe this all seam very interacting and i mast say that it is very important for as and for the z-brush makers to see what is realy out ther and use it and promote it as this what is goin to drive the companis that making the aplications to make them beter and actualy understand what the users realy whant and ty to achive it. thx
I totally agree, “retopology tools are like a supertopogun” and quadrangulate tool rocks too (because automatically makes a retopo!). Let’s note that retopo is necesary only when you want a polygonal version of your model.
3d-coat yeah!
Honestly I use 3DC on every project now. Sometimes it’s used for the entire project, whether it’s sculpting, painting, retopo, I can’t get enough of it.
Their request that the program is used for “stuff that is according to their moral code” is a very refreshing and totally courageous statement.
I am not a Christian but I respect anybody that makes their statement so fairly and tries to live by their ethical code.
Some of you people have made statements that this is a silly request etc but I suggest that it is you that is naive, juvenile and without respect for others.
Think about it.
Maybe also ask yourself what your own ethical code is!
Art is intrinsically connected to all aspects of the human condition and no individual has a monopoly on correctitude.
Well, if pixologic people are smart they will be remaking their interface, adding voxel support, refining texture tools, exporting tools, for the next version of zbrush. So the amorals will have a good alternative!, by now if someone just try out 3d-coat probably stick with it (moral or not:p ).
I don’t think Pixo will redesign the well-thought out and excellent interface, and really it’s not that different from photoshops’ and mayas’, just different enough that there is a slight learning curve, so in my opinion it would be a mistake to change the ZB interface completely, just maybe some refinements.
Adding voxels would be nice but voxels are not the end-all of 3d sculpting and if Pixo did add voxels that would be cool, but not wholly history making, in fact I’m sure Pixo is content with letting Pilgway handle the voxel side of the game, I mean 3D coat is cheap and hey they’re already there, and Pixo is not an evil corporation eager to steal someone else’s technology.
So If I feel the need to start working in voxels I’ll pick up 3D Coat, I’m sure that Pixo would not be offended.

Their god and their stupid program can eat my ass. In fact maybe I will sculpt a depiction of that with their program.

They just asked you not to make a certain kind of picture, since when does that constitute an extremist?
Just want to say that ZBrush’s interface is my favorite out of all art applications… It’s so efficient, I rarely have to touch my keyboard. I do all my sculpting leaning back with my feet up on my desk. It kind of bugs me that people criticize it for not following the lead of all other 3d applications, when in my opinion all the others suck. It seems like everybody wants ZBrush to throw good after bad, just so they don’t have to learn something new.
You sir, are a godsend. I can’t stand newbies who’s major gripe is that they’re too lazy to learn ZB’s interface (although I was amongst their ranks many years ago)
I always liked Zbrush interface (very good for the eyes and super customizable).Maybe some buttons are too small(ex:deformations axis)
but you can make them bigger in preferences.
It is always a surprise to me when people whine about Zb interface.
I also like 3DCoat interface (anyway I made myself a custom one too).
I think arguing over the default interfaces of completely customizable softwares is silly and mostly very lazy.
Just change it buddy,it is so easy to drag around buttons in Zb.
I think grid display, rightclick navigation and infinite zooming in 3.5.
even if they arent improvement to the interface per say will help a little new users to feel more comfortable.
