Its funny, is there any doubt that February will come and pass and NOT leave behind Mudbox for Mac? Pixologic, watch what happens when a company makes good on a deal !
Well, 3.5 will be dtill for free. If it will smash Mudbox, Pixo won’t loose many users, but may loose new who will purchase Mud.
MMMM… It will be a muddy February! maps! Did someone say maps?
Does anyone know if mudbox has a feature similiar to zProject in zBrush (or same as)?
thx
Thanks Inverse C.
Does Mudbox allow this type of “projection” through polygroups or masks (like with zBrush)?
I’m currently checking-out Pioneer. Simply sign up with Cornucopia to get your serial no.
Pioneer is an empty shell, but gives you the cloud, sky and terrain builder, something that’s available as well in Esprit/Infinite. Basically, Pioneer is like a demo, the renderer is useless, as it renders only in low-res with watermarks and logo in the bottom. So, if you want to make it useful, the first investment needs to be the ‘render-up’ module, for $69, to get access to high-res non watermark rendering. The separate modules seem interesting, and what I like about it is, that you can choose how to expand your program, leaving out the stuff you don’t need, in my case, anything that has to do with animation. Actually, I think e-on is smart with this approach; you start with a basic application that can be expanded to your own likening, without paying the full load of cash all at once, or for stuff you don’t need.
Thanks Danny for the info. I was wondering what the Pioneer is all about.
You have right it’s smart move.
Guys, I hope you know that you can download now full Vue7 PLE version…?
A small note.
Friend bought Vue 7 Infinite, he is running 64 version. Has had it a few
weeks. Constantly emailing eon about crashes, etc. Basic response from
them is working will advise in next update.
I was fortunate have VueXStream ( goes with Maya).
Although I have a 64 bit, installed as 32.
No problems at all, especially in importing Poser which usually causes
a lot of grief.
If you are considering buying any of the 7 versions, might either want to
wait or go to the forums at Cornucopia and read the sad tales of
others…
Yes, we know, but the PLE will be useless, except for learning. The full version will be expensive. Pioneer is the basic core, and with the right modules you can do a lot, if not almost the same as with Infinite. It depends what the user wants to do with the package, if one needs all the bells and whistles of Infinte, or just a part of it to do the job, and that saves you the costs of the full package, paying for stuff you don’t need. You can expand Pioneer to Vue 7 Complete. If you do a comparison test http://www.e-onsoftware.com/products/vue/vue_7_complete/?page=19 you can see what the advantage of the more expensive packages will be, and if you need 'm.
Hey, I got one question regarding Vue Pioneer Beta that bugs me.
If I am not wrong, the e-on software e-mail about Pioneer Beta said, that every beta user will get full free license of Vue Pioneer after it’ll come out from the beta stage.
Does it mean that when the full version will be released, the limitations of the beta will disapear (such as watermark, render size limit, no model import and commercial use)??
I doubt it. I think the main selling point of Pioneer for Vue is, that once installed, you can buy the separate modules. And once you buy one module, you want to have another one, and another one. Perhaps the beta has some limitations now, but I don;t think they will integrate the modules.
Ahh right. It looks like the only way to get rid of these limitations is to use those modules.
The free Open Beta of Vue 7 Pioneer has the following limitations:
Picture size is limited to Full HD (1920x1080) and pictures carry a Vue 7 logo*
Vue 7 Pioneer is for home use only. For commercial use, please consider Vue 7 Esprit or higher**
You cannot load 3D models***
- You can lift these limitations with the RenderUp module - read more here
** Commercial use of Vue 7 Pioneer requires that you own at least the RenderUp and 3DImport modules - read more here
*** You can however load the locked content you get from Cornucopia3D, or you can create your own models using the Vue 7 Pioneer modeling tools - read more here
But it still isn’t clear to me if those limitations will abolish with the full version coming out, which license is for free for beta users, if I’m not wrong.
Right now the only way to get rid of some is to but the renderer so it make it useless. It’s better to get the PLE version, imo.
Oh well… I don’t really need that soft but could make some use of it for sure
3dc’s still probably pretty rough and raw compared to zb but man oh man, you gotta admire their new VOXEL sculpt!
https://dl.getdropbox.com/u/92176/3dcHand3/3dcHand3.html
it’s kind of the same kind of thing you can do in the new zb architectural tutorial, being able to implant premade details but the premade details need not be subject to a base mesh that you’re projecting onto.
and to be clear, those hands in the video when combined with that sphere is not a separate object… it is one object that is as seamlessly blendable as if it was pulled forth from the sphere from scratch.
http://www.3d-coat.com/v3_voxel_sculpting.html
it’s kind of like the next evolution for pixols… it seems like this is what pixols should end up being.
and can you image a zsphere’s kinda concept with voxels? no worries about branching or anything… just makes strips and lumps and just glom them together to rough out your mesh.
kinda like the next evolution of metaballs… an organica++ kinda thing.
anyone know if something like this is in the works at all for zb? i’m not normally one to ask for every feature under the sun but the concept and idea of voxels seems like a natural evolution up for the pixol.

I was using 3coat today for creating hair which is seems perfect for as there’s no stretching… but I really did miss the Zbrush move and flatten tools. They are so silky compared to 3dcoats. I ended up jumping between the two.
3dcoat wins for flexability - by far
Zbrush wins for Control - by far
i tested 3dcoat last year and the voxels are pretty cool, i too wish something like that would be in zbrush. 3dcoat has some other nice features, but i personally cannot deal with the interface.
i think i just saw some sort of cloth simulation in the alpha thread is that correct? pretty cool!
I think it’s most admirable to see what a workhorse Andrew is, and how involved he is with his community. What 3DCoat desperately needs is a brandnew interface. This program really deserves something better; a clean, professional looking environment.
With the disappearance of the Mac Displacement Map Thread (like so many mac threads before it), it is fitting to note that Mudbox 2009 for the Mac appears to be shipping. Demo coming next week according to Autodesk’s forums. http://area.autodesk.com/index.php/forums/viewthread/25575/
