ZBrushCentral

Now Im having fun

"
^&$&^#&^&_())(&^%$#@#$%^&!!! ! !!! "

OMG frustration, ZbrushCentral is maybe not being user friendly! :frowning:

Liking your LEGO art MealeaYing!

Wondering if Zbrush 4r7 will allow one to use Lego blocks as scatter objects?

We can define micromesh to be legos !

fibremesh lego isn’t quite micromesh lego… could be hot lego !hot lego.jpg

That is so awesome!
Flaming lego!

Hey Mealea!

what about just uploading a zip of an RTF or Word doc if there’s some problem
here with ZBC deleting it?

Also, still having fun with your autoloops tutorial (see attached zip). I re-formatted it slightly to help me
follow it. Still the best tut on loops I’ve found. ;):+1:

BTW, one realllllly neat thing is the obj created/exported by ZB is made up
of many editable parts, so they can each take a different material…or be animated.

And thanks for the link to Magica Voxel Renderer…looks like a winner.

hmmmm its broken again!

@Megacal:

Sorry, I meant to comment on your render.
ITS GREAT!
So you are getting the hang of that stuff huh? Thats awesome.
Are you doing other things as well??
If so, start a thread and post stuff if you have time, its a great way to learn more stuff here.

Hello Mealea, I’m posting this at the risk of you going " Oh Shoot! not that again!!".
You see, I’m a newcommer to the art of displacement in ZBrush ( I guess there always will be more…) and I have
frustrating issues I can’t seem to solve on my own…surprise, surprise…
2 things :

  1. First, I was just wondering wether the problem presented on page 96 of this thread regarding the handling of
H and V repeats not functionning ā€œproperlyā€ while pressing the ā€œapply disp.ā€ button was ultimately resolved.
There’s talk here about exporting/importing the base mesh to solve this problem amongst other attempted solutions.
The thing is, there is a SIMPLE solution to this ā€œproblemā€ I’ve not seen elswhere that doesn’t require all of this finagling.
For example, in the attached image I never ex/imported anything and I also NEVER use the ā€œapply disp.ā€ button in the Displacement Palette
and yet there IS still lots of displacement in this image ( I used PUV 4 X 4, GroupLoops, Mesh Extract etc…). Does this issue still ring a bell with you?
( Displacement map from the amazing Michalis. Thank U, Thank U, Thank U…)

  2. The main reason I’m writing is that you often metionned that you apply the disp. map more than once and that is creeping me up the wall!
I know you do so, if you say so, but how is that even possible? and for what reason is this done? Can I be so bold as to ask you to
alleviate my pain on this matter by retorquing a short explanation?

I still have other issues but…one at a time.

Thank you so much for your wonderful ZB Thread.Header.jpg

Hey Mealea!

Sorry I didn’t see your reply earlier from 12/6. Yeah, I’m still trying to get the hang of
the workflow. I tend to get stuck mentally, i.e. once I get an object, I’ll take it to VUE, C4D,
etc. and play with it in different scenes.

But I need to think outside the torus like you, and create something really alien.

Taking a plane trip tomorrow, and will spend time on your lego tut…thanks for doing it.
I copy/pasted as .rtf, and printed it out to chew on the plane.

I also packed the loops tuts, too. Practice, practice, practice.

BTW, for anyone late to this thread, if you haven’t already, highly recommend
starting on page 1 of this thead, and going through 3-5 pages a day…at that rate, it would
still take you 40-25 days! =O But worth it, imho.

Happy New Year & Happy ZBrushing! :):+1:
(especially when R7 is released…soon, I hope)

And keep safe wherever you are in this increasingly dangerous world.

the number one always here, a hug:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Hey There,… Thanx a mil for your toughts on ZB.
I would like you to try out Paleo3D’s method of displacement and see if it suits you well.

Create some fancy geometry

Apply Uvs with as many repeats you heart desires

Create loops if you wish

Divide, divide, divide into the mils

Apply your Displ. Map as a TEXTURE! (Mrgb) ( the simple 1x map, not the multiple ones you created)

( this can be used as a PREVIEW to your displacement)

Create mask : MASKING : color/INTENSITY

Transformation : INFLATE at will

Clear mask and texture

Apply color (/texture) ( optional)

And there you be!!! You get out of this THE SAME AS IF YOU HAD USED APPLY DISP. IN THE DISPLACEMENT PALETTE !!!
No PhotoShop, no ex/importing and enjoy the simplicity…
After using the disp. Palette, Zbrush’s arteries ( read : memory ) seem to clog up and render time is usually impossibly LOOOOOOOOONG.
An added advantage with this method, is that when done, you can can Render immediatly with very short render time! No more waiting!
I made the attached image in less than 1/2 hour using this method. Here undos are simple
and you can quickly try out different Displ. Maps…etc
Again, thank you ( and Michalis ) so much for your insperations.
You may not know what you are doing, but at least you are doing it well…:wink:Mich07.jpg

THAT was it!

ā€œI seem to remember figuring out a way of converting the preview to polypaint and using that as a secondary displacement map, but I don’t remember now if I managed that or just thought it up, in theory it should be doable.ā€

I just totally forgot how.
Thank you for this, I forget more than I realize sometimes!

@PFC:
I adore you you know!
Vostè és esplèndid!

Hmmm…
Thats odd… its NOT working and Im not sure why…
I need coffee…
It applied the texture just fine, but the mask came out at 1x1 and I have no clue why…

Im going to try again, this is weird.

Nope…
It doesnt w… ork…
Wait a moment!

AHHA!!!

What I didn’t do was use the PolyPaint Pallet to apply the texture properly!
I am an airhead!!!

So to get the texture onto your object at something other than 1x1 when applying the mask you select your mask in the texture pallet and then in the PolyPaint pallet you hit the PolyPaint From Texture button after turning up the repeat in the UV Pallet.

THAT was what I was forgetting and now it works great!

I got this working wonderfully a long time ago but got sidetracked by work and another bit of software that I have since ditched and totally forgot!
Thank you VERY MUCH for reminding me!

HI ya,

You don’t need to deal with with the PolyPaint subPalette at all…
Just import the Disp. Map by clicking the Texture icon to the left ( above the Material icon ) and press Mrgb.
And that’s it…simplicity at its best…
This method is so elegant and simple I think it should be used universally from anybody disiring to displace anything.
Notice how fast the render is after using this method, unlike when using the Displacement Palette…
Please tell me that things are OK now with this… ( As a rebel you can also Inflate as many times as you wish!)

You mentionned something about displacement through the Suface/Noise Palette . I tried it and I like, I like. ( see attached )
Thanx for this.UFO.jpg

Skip your steps 5 through 8 and :

Just import the Disp. Map by clicking the Texture icon to the left ( above the Material icon ) and press Mrgb.

But make sure that you are at the highest subdivision level ( into the millions of polys) BEFORE hitting Mrgb or RGB.

Its really that simple… NO Texture Map Pallet. and NO PolyPaint Palette.

As you press Mrgb the Map ( as an ordinary TEXTURE ) will appear on you mesh. Then Mask…etc

I know you will get this;)Mealea.jpg

Ok weird, I tried exactly that but it doesn’t do anything.
As in no texture gets applied…
Hmmmmm…

Do EXACTLY what I’ve said before and kick me in the butt 'cause I took it for granted that by turning on Mrgb
that that also meant to press the Fill Object button…( I feel very little right now…Please don’t hurt me for this omission ).

HAHAHAHAHA!!!
Thats awesome!
I should have known that!!! ITS SO OBVIOUS!
What is rather interesting is I went for the hard way instead of figuring that out!
I love omissions like this, they make me think, so Im NOT going to hurt you, Im going to kick my self instead!

Please post an image example using this receipe and let me know how smooth it went and how fast the render was.
( How do you like your rebel portrait? )
Paleo.

Ok…
Heres a quicky:
Its just a sphere and your method works great, it just requires very clean maps or you get slight lumpiness.

grr…
ZBC’s image size thing is getting me again…

Hang on…
