Now Im having fun

Since R2 came out I have gotten far better at crashing Zbrush, but Zbrush now prevents me from losing my work which is a very very very cool thing
All of these are recovered files, they are also all experiments in trying to learn all the new stuff.
At first I had some trouble with 2.5D stuff but that seems to have resolved it self somehow, I dont know what fixed it but Im thrilled it did.

The new masking stuff was frustrating at first as I didn’t know it was happening half the time, now that I know about it and now that I understand how it can be used I’m amazed.

This object is nothing more then a masked cylinder that has been distorted:
(With some default noise to make it look nice!)

This is the same object, just more distortion and two BPR filters:

Nice experiments Mealea…:+1:…Lots of new stuff to play with…:D…I wonder what would happen if you used an alpha as a mask on that type of experiment that you did in your last post,…You could even inverse the mask after you drag rectangle it onto your model and visa vera as you go along with it…You might get some really incredible results…Lots of nice alphas to choose from…not only in the alpha panel on the left of your screen,…but also in the pixologic alpha library…Just a thought that crossed my mind as I was enjoying that last experiment of yours…Might be useful to you, who knows…thought it worth mentioning just in case it may be…

THAT is a neat idea!!! Thanks!!

Back in a moment!

Fantastic experimentation! I’ve followed this thread for a little while now since joining the community and I dare say you push the buttons I myself daren’t…

Keep it up!

@cl-apps:

Thanks!
My usual thing is to press ALL of the buttons. What I do is open a new pallet or sub pallet as often as possible, if it doesn’t seem to do any thing or it crashes Zbrush I go and try to find instructions, if that gets me nowhere, like they are meaningless tech-speak I try again, if I get results GREAT!!! if not I look for more instructions.
This works about 1/2 the time.
I love your work by the way, its is some of the most happy stuff here.

Hi again MealeaYing,

I liked your latest things, I realy like the NogginHeaded Girl  (it’s a really good concept I think)

I enjoy your art because you don’t try to make it so much polished (making things polished is important I know especially when you are supposed to sell your art), but you just play, and I understand the fun!!!

Keep at it, fun is what it is supposed to be (in my view) __________ (plus they are all so cool)

Hi YKatz!!
Thank you again!
You are correct, I am mainly out to have as much fun as possible, I absolutely love the instant gratification of Zbrush and Sculptris and the other programs Im playing with.
I’m glad you like that one, it was very interesting to make that, I was waiting for R2 to come out and driving my self nuts waiting. Since you brought it up I started another like it and should have some results and a video soon, the video stuff is great fun you can see all the places where you change your mind about how you want to do things…
I’m curious about your interest in virtual worlds, you mentioned one not long ago and I know of others you might like a lot.

Cheers!
Mealea

Rafslash asked me about fibers and I figured that it would be good to re-post what I wrote down here because fuzzy stuff is good!

Its surprisingly easy too use which is nice.

  1. Start with any object. (dont forget that accursed EDIT MODE)
  2. Go into the Materiel Pallet on the left and set your object to Fibers.
  3. If it does not change color see more info below.
  4. In the Render Menu (at the top) open Render Properties and turn on Fibers and AF.
  5. Now render your object, it should be fuzzy!

Ok,
here is the “more info below” bit, if your object does not change how
it looks or after rendering does not look fuzzy do the select Fibers thing again and go to the Color Menu (at the top) and hit Fill Object.
Note >>>—> If you are in R2 and using objects from LightBox a lot of them have color and materiel assigned already, Fill Object is your
friend in this case.

There are a bunch of fiber adjustments in the Modifiers pallet under the Materiel Menu at the top, Look at the top of the pallet and you
will see S1 and S2 select S2 and fiddle with the settings in there, they are great fun but try them one or two at a time as they do
surprisingly large changes.

You can also paint fuzz where you want it which is very very very amusing (and sort of tricky at times for some reason).
To do that:

  1. Set your objects materiel like you did above but to something other then Fibers (try something light for the moment).
  2. Turn on Colorize in the PolyPaint Pallet on the right.
  3. At the top select MRGB (this sets materiel and color).
  4. Turn off Zadd. (this is optional, but if it is on you will be sculpting AND painting at the same time).
  5. Try drawing on your object.
  6. Mess with the color! Its great fun!
If it doesn't work change brushes and make sure #3 and #4 are still as they should be, some brushes dont paint well or even at all.

No mater what you do with fibers the Snake Hook Brush is awesome both in 3D and in 2.5D,
change its color and as it drags out it will fade from the color you
are grabbing with it to the one you have selected, its a total blast!

Thank you Rafslash!!!

Cheers!

I almost forgot, this is a VERY IMPORTANT THREAD:
http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?95538-Fiber-Thread-—-FIBRE-CLUB
Thats where the fuzzy stuff lives!

SprigsOfFuzz.jpg

Hi Mealea

I have an interest in 3D worlds mostly, and I have contributed to 2 worlds in the past (and was pretty successful).

If you want to ask me any questions about it please send me an email or a PM.

Thanks!!

Random things…

Learning about the extract tool, I like this tool a LOT.
I learned a lot from this thread:
http://www.zbrushcentral.com/showthread.php?161884-mysketchbook-hard-surface
THANK YOU Gwainbarek!!!

AThingIMade.jpg

Extract and Group Loop, Group Loop is awesome!

Extract-O-Ball.jpg

TopMod, I am getting a serious education from this program, this one is just fun:

rack.jpg

TopMod again, more of the educational stuff:

smash.jpg

TopMod, 100% learning project, 1/2 hour to learn, import and render.
It is possible to make buildings so complex its astonishing, this is a
simple example because as things get more complex they crash
more. blah…

TopModHouses.jpg

Weird 2.5D rendering errors in 4.R2, things go sort of strange after
a while, in this case I liked how my crash, if that is what it was,
looked so I saved it. In this instance the object in the center (the ball thing)
somehow went transparent, something I have wanted to do for a while but
have been unable to manage. This time it happened by accident and I have
been unable to replicate the effect:

YepOkItsAnotherOneOfThese.jpg

I have been reading a lot in my spare time and one of the more interesting bits
of stuff I have found is this:
http://www.viz.tamu.edu/faculty/ergun/research/topology/papers.html

Learning stuff about topology on ZBC has taught me all sorts of neat things, one
of which is that keeping polygon counts down is not just a good idea if you want to
make mammoth stuff (I do) but its also an art form in it self.

Making weird stuff with weirder stuff…

A base mesh (from TopMod):

Fish4BaseMesh.jpg

A bit of progress:

Fish4.jpg

And a bit more progress:

Fish4-2.jpg

This is I think the most subtools I have ever used… its getting amusing, a few of them have a LOT of polygons, and I’m well over 10 million at this point.
Maybe its time to start playing with color and materials and stuff…
Or not!

Mealea…Beautiful experiments …really…:+1:small_orange_diamond:)

That one with the grey, red, and white colors…The sphere shaped one posted above…Reminds me of a Navajo piece of pottery…Outstanding look you have achieved with your experiments…Keep Exploring…Can’t wait to see what you discover next…:+1:small_orange_diamond:)

@Spirit Dreamer:

Thank you, that was sort of the idea with that, it was also for turning into a 2.5D
brush which is what the video below is of (its horrible).

I used a lot of stuff that is new to me like that Xpose thingy, which I love, it is
inspiring me to make as many subtools as possible just so I can hit the Xpose
button… its a LOT of fun! This is a very poor example of Zbrush video but I tried
out some new things and learned quite a bit.
If all goes well the next video(s) will be a complete project and will even have a
sound track. I will have to find something other then vimeo, they are far to limited
for what I want to do.

I have this wonderful program called ArtRage Studio Pro, its basically a very cool paint program and its a LOT of fun.
Since I haven’t got Photoshop I decided to try using it with ZAppLink and after some (lots) screwing about I got it
working, The things Zbrush is able to do amazing.

If you have ArtRage, set up ZappLink to send stuff to it, that part should be in the ZAppLink instructions.

Once you have sent your image over to ArtRage and have edited it you need to export (not save) the resulting
document to your ZApplink directory and overwrite a file called:
TempZAppLinkExport.psd
Then switch back to ZBrush and pick your object back up.

This is a very quick description, if anyone is interested I will do a complete tutorial, its a fantastic plugin and the
fact that it works with ArtRage is delightful.

Here is a VERY quick example:

Michalis and a few other people here who do somewhat more classical looking sculpts
have been causing me to stick with trying to get better at a few things, most notably
trying to make things that look like they actually exist. I suck at this but its great
fun and when ever I get frustrated I go and look at their work and I’m motivated again.

Michalis and almost everyone else have been doing cool things with dynamesh
and while I have been having a lot of trouble with it causing crashes and making
weird meshes I am getting used to it and getting in the habit of looking at the
whole model every time I remesh so I dont end up with a million unplugable holes,
I hate having to pay attention to things like this but its starting to pay off and
in ways I was not expecting.
Its surprisingly fun to have a nice glass of rum and just play till something neat
happens, this is how this came about, its not good but I didn’t know how to make
it yesterday and now I do.

@Mealea

:D:D:D

Your so crazy - man -
but i like the way you do -:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:
always Surprise and WoW -
this is really a crazy way
you use Sculpris, Artrage , Jenn , TopMod and many other Progs to explore the Universe of Art
and YES - in my Eyes - this is Art …what you doing

Do you Know Sculpture Generator (Download Sculptgen.zip )

Makes stl-files and then with Nettfab to obj… -

and go on to sculptris

Structure Synth
Obj Export - runs in 32 Bit
( maybe in 64 you must try)

there allways been new Ways to explore.
Thats fun and inspiration - Go on

MealeaYing your Experiments are Truly inspiring  Thanks for exploring other possibilities!!

@Yoogy!!!
HOLY COW!!!
Those programs are AWESOME!!! THANK YOU!!!
I will have a couple of things up momentarily I think, oh my goodness they are neat!
hehehehe! I’m having so much FUN!!!

@Betamax:
Thank you!!! Judging by your name you try other things as well, also I love your Fink!
When I was little a friend made me a model (plastic) of Rat Fink driving a hot rod, I still
have it, its insane and very fun.
