NickZ Beta Blast. (8 movies added page 32) April 2013

Again,

Thanks for all the Crits and help on this human model. I have taken into account a lot of the suggestions and I have made some changes to the model.

Please take a look and let my know your thoughts on things. I know things are still not correct but I’m working on it. A fresh set of eyes always helps out.

Thanks for the help,

Maybe give the back heel the smallest amount of added meat? I keep looking at my feet, which aren’t connected to anything as muscular so bear with me, and my heel seems more pronounced than your model’s. Then again, people vary…and I am looking down while sitting. Hmm…lots of variables there I guess.

Other than that possible point, I think it’s swell. Great work and thanks for all the Veoh vids.

Hey nickz, great sculpt, although you are missing one small detail. you are missing the area that divides the top abdomen from the pectoral muscles. Take a look at the artists busts from www.freedomofteach.com to get a better idea.

Here is a Time-Lapse movie that I created for a craft that was going to be in the background of my Alien Shark illustration. It didn’t work out because it was making things look too busy. I still had a lot of fun working on the piece.

If you would like to see the movie please follow this link.

Sorry for having link out of this post, for some reason I can not upload this video to veoh.com so I had to use virb.com instead. I can not currently embed this video type into a zbrush thread.

Hope you enjoy,

NickZ.

i love your work man. keep it up

Wonderful!

I love the design and the way you approached the modeling. Did you paint a texture for it or is the color procedurally made in Maya? I would love to see how you have your lighting set up and how you created the engine glows.

That music was a nice choice too, have you ever heard of “Carbon Based Lifeforms” ? They are a really great ambient group, you would probably like them.

Teyon - Thanks for the advise. I will work on the back of the heel.

PixcolClay- Good eye. I’m getting conflicting anatomical reference, but I agree with you, this is how I see it most the time as well. Look at the changes below and give me your thoughs. Thanks for the input.

mradamw - Glad you like the work!

Luminous Anubis - Thanks. I did paint a texture, sort of. I used ZBrush to bake out a bronze shader to a texture. The lights are very simple, they are just point lights with a fall off set to a distance (value) this way they are intense in an area but then fade away, those settings are in the attribute editor for the point light. The engines are just cones (geometry) that have an alpha map on it that fades out toward the ends with a little of a flame look on them. I then animated the geo to revolve during the animation.

I think I have heard of “Carbon Based Lifeforms” I’m sure I would like them as well. Do you have any links to their work?

Here is the latest update to my Human Male Athletic Model. Please let me know your thoughs on things.

Much better…

Hey Nick.

This is looking much better since the last time saw.

Are you gonna take this fella all the way or is it just a sketch?

Keep inspiring us.

Cheers
Brett

PixolClay - Thanks!

BrettSinclair - Thanks. I do want to take this model all the way to completion. I work on it when I get free time. I have been spending a lot of time working on my blog. I finally have it the way I would like it set up so I can just add to it. Again thanks for inspiring me as well. Every time I see all the great work being produced here on the forums it really kicks me in the pants and makes me want to sit in front of the computer.

Here is a new version of my Human Male Athletic Model. I am trying a new approach to the model. (Thanks to my friend Jim Rice for getting me on the right track.) Before I was trying to lay in all the muscles as if there was no skin on the model. The plan was to have a correct layout of the muscle structure first and then I was going to knock back the "cut " level of the model to produce a more natural looking model.

I think I have been working backwards, I need to make a good looking natural model first and then add in the “cut” level on the model.

Let me know if you think I am on the right track.

This is great Nickz, very natural, I think this new method works better

Hey Nick.

This looks more natural. I think your on the right track. But I also think that the approach is up to the artist? It depends on what you feel comfortable doing.

Love the blog :+1:

Cheers
Brett

Some people work from the skeleton up. So really there’s no right or wrong way of doing it.

Either way, looks good to me.

Here is a new update to the body. Hope this is looking better.

Thanks again for the kind words and helping me to see with fresh eyes.

Peace,

NickZ.

Looking great Nick. I think just scew up the toes a tad, and I’m not sure about the arm pit, maybe worth another look?

Next step poly paint. aaaannd go! haha.

Cheers
Brett

BrettSinclair - Thanks for the encouragement. I’m working on those feet. That is going slow. I made some more changes to the body shape. I fixed the angle of the arms (something funky was going on from the back view.) I worked on his rear, a friend of min keeps letting me know that I keep making a bubble but. (Not trying.) I also worked on the stomach area, I tried to tie in the detail level to other parts of the body. I also worked on the over all shape of the legs.

Thanks for all the patients. Trust me I can’t wait to take this thing and turn it into a monster, I’m fighting it though! I really want this to be a good exercise for me to learn anatomy for the entire figure. I feel that I am learning a good bit and my hat goes off to those that are making sculpting the human form with good rhythm look easy. (Because it is not at first. For those who are still learning like me…keep going!

Latest update:

Feet still need a LOT of love, same for hands. (Paint over’s and critiques are more than welcome!)

Peace - NickZ.

I like this alot, very nice anatomy, I hope to achive this quality some day.

I recently put together a tutorial on how to use ZSpheres to create some geometry inside of ZBrush and then use that geometry to build a 3D sketch.

I decided to turn this 3D sketch into a version of Spiderman.

If you would like to take a look at the tutorials I made you can take a look by
Clicking On This Link

I made two versions for the tutorial, one video is the entire tutorial (50 min) that explains all the tools and then goes into a time - lapse sculpting session.

The other vidoe (9 min) is just a time-lapse video of the entire sculpting session.

I hope these videos help someone out!

Peace,

NickZ.

Very helpful! Thanks for taking the time to “spread the wealth”, as they say. I really appreciate you passing on your valuable knowledge of ZBrush. :+1:

I have to say , everytime someone asks me about videos to learn Zbrush I point them to yours. They’re always very educational and complete (and free even)

Also the fact that you start entirely from Zspheres instead of an externally made basemesh is nice. :+1:
