Need a crit on a famous face

Wow I like it. :grimacing:

I like the new pose much better. She’s still posing for the camera, it just looks more natural now.

There are still some things that need tweaking to give her a more finished look. She needs some texture to her clothes. Some sort of fabric alpha will do it. Also I’d make her robe slightly off-white. Her hair needs more detail because it looks flat. Her eyebrows look painted on. You can do hair in maya, or use fiber brush. That’s all, everything else looks good.

I must admit that’s really awesome work. A good likeness.

I do have one critique, but its a non ZBrush critique. I judge by the picture that you must be using some external renderer. The shadow quality looks very basic. Some softening, area or bounce or fill lighting could help that flat black shadow.

You might think about adding some color via the lights. Tint one slightly blue and put it off camera right, and another one more orange or reddish and off camera left.

Thanks for the feedback guys- much appreciated.

John and Henry: Wow. Your critiques have taken on a life of thier own  I think I am going to keep the current pose. I agree John that the old pose had a nice iconic look to it- but I think due to the CG process, it would always be looked at as something too symetrical. I also like how the new pose is open. It was a hard decision, but after showing the work to a variety of people (here and else where) the general feel is go with the new pose. Thanks for the heavy debate. Maybe some more pose tweaking will make everyone happy?

JesseGraffam- thanks for the critique. I agree with everything you said- I’m not sure what I will do about the hair- but everything else is on my list to do.

Wildsketch- I totally agree. This is a pretty flat render and needs some attention in the lighting. Now that the textures, model, and materials are in a decent place, lighting (and perhaps still materials) will be the focus. The cloth definitely will need a texture (its just a flat blinn now).

Thanks again folks
Craig

Worked some on the hair- hopefully it looks better. I also reduced the bump in the lips and started the shader for the cloth. Tweaked the gun shader and made some small changes to the eyes as well. Next on my list is improving the lighting and eventually working up a BG (something simple probably:) ). Thanks for the critques- please let me know what you think of the current render.![HairPostJan.jpg|700x754](upload://4qCbjEpy8v4yN59oVxVT09wL4mB.jpeg)

IMO. I think you are there.

The final step must be to put in a backdrop. You could tweek the bare clinical view until you are 100 but you will never know its is done until she is in situ.

Brilliant work

Pose is brilliant! Still think you should ease back on the SSS in the arms, maybe knock a point or so off the reflectivity, you’re losing definition in the curves.

Very nice comic_craig, Leia is looking great! I agree with markkens that the SSS needs to be a bit lower on the arms. They are looking a bit wax like in places. The one thing that stands out to me is how sharp and dark the shadows are. I think by softening them up it will help the realism.

Once again, great work! And may the Force be with you!

Thanks for the kind words and critiques- I have a question of clarification from markkens and Jaidek. When you say, lower the SSS are you reffering to the Backscatter (glow like quality of flesh) or possibly just the overall soft/waxy feel of the render… or something else. I was thinking of lowering the backscatter depth and possibly pushing the diffuse color over the subdermal colors… does that make any sense… in other words, more flat diffuse, less glow, less SSS shader. Sorry- too many parameters to adjust.

kenhilton- thank you for the vote of confidence  . I think I’m getting close- but there are whole areas I haven’t really tweaked yet (lighting being the big one). I like the lighting critiques I’ve recieved so far- any more are appreciated.

Thank you again
Craig

Finally added a background and did a few other edits- more clothing and a few minor tweaks. Please let me know what you think of the new composition. Thank you for your continued help.

purely on dedication to a single project, top row mate, its a great model. u know instantly who it is. maybe make the lighting a little darker to fit the background but apart from that i think a round of applause is called for! hehehe, well done mate!

Henry

Dedication! Top Row! Great chops! :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

Really A Top Row Work Craig!!! :+1: :sunglasses:

pretty well done, 5*

Thanks for the kind words. I’m glad people are liking this. I think I still have energy to make some small changes, so please feel free to give your critiques as well.

Craig

I kind of feel like some of this is a step backwards- but I’ve played around with lighting/rendering. My main complaint is that it looks a bit grey and flat- but I might just fix that in post;) . Made some changes to blouse form, adjust lighting/materials, and added some other views.

Hey Craig, this looks excellent! You really worked hard on this and it shows. My only problem with it is how far the sss penetrates. Doesn’t show in the face, but the hands you can tell. Doesn’t really matter though cuz the overall image is outstanding. Great job!

I have been following this thread since you posted the original image. You have really done a great job. It has been nice to see the progression, as opposed to a lot of threads on here that post final images as the first post; the glory seekers I call them  (No offence to those artists who produce many great works-of-art from such posts)

Anyway. 5 from mem and congrats on a great peice.

Kracken- thanks for the kind words. I’ve made some edits to the arm shader- please let me know what you think

Elixir- thanks to you as well for the kind words. I’m glad you appreciate the WIP thread. I have to admit- I’m not without the need to get glory ;). At this point, I’m looking more for critiques- but I might repost later a final version for glory- I think I, like most, appreciate when we find out that people enjoy the work we do

Another post- still working the SSS shader on arms. I enlarged the hands and made a couple of other changes. I have a question about the eyes- Leia’s right eye droops farther then left. Some folks have said its too much- but some have like the asymetry. I’ll try to post another with less droop- but until then, please let me know if you like it the way it is? FebPost.jpg

Much better! I looked around and in some of the pics I’ve seen of her, it looks like her right eye opens just a bit wider. Some shots it’s the same. It doesn’t make it look any less like her, so I think it’s a very minor issue.
