Okay- getting a likeness isn’t easy for me. I really need more then one set of eyes looking at this image. I’m still just working on the face, the hair is only blocked in and will give the hair more attention after I think the face is at a good point. I’m not mentioning who this is- if you can’t tell, then I really haven’t done my job or you didn’t watch sci-fi movies during the 70’s or 80’s.

Let me know what you think

i know who it is, but the hairstyle gives it away

i think its pretty much like her, maybe it could be more like her but
i personally couldnt get it closer, so it looks good enough to me.

Hello Carrie!
The buns give her away…

Even though the hair gives it away, you can see her likeness quite well in the face. If you want crit, I would say that the section of her hair that is not in the buns is too full. Her hair is pulled tight, so should conform more to the shape of her head. Aside from that, I wouldn’t change a thing.

No crits? What, do I smell or something? I know you want to tell me how crappy this work is. Here- I’ll help you out- I’m looking at it now and I’m thinking that the top of the head need to come up a bit maybe, and I think I will re-check the length of the chin. I’ve even included some images that will help for the comparison. Now its your turn- please help me out.

BTW- I posted this and then saw several new crits- I knew I didn’t smell, thanks guys

Even without the buns, I couls tell it was Carrie Fisher. Very nicely done sculpt…:+1:

Dickie

The top of her head in the reference pics posted above seems to be a bit more cone shaped than your model and her eyes have deaper creases, though that will probably come later. The lower half of the face looks pretty much dead on mate, nice work!

Tore’alos,
Wyrm

Really nice start overall. I looked at the images in photoshop and if anything it seems like the feature may be slightly large and the mass of the back of the skull seems slightly small. Both of those things lead me to beleive you may be right and the perspective may be distorting the head a little too much. I’d also make sure that the ears are figured into the hair mass. It seems that the hair right now is a bit to tight if you eliminate the buns. Again though… this can be a perspective thing. Its possible that the jaw is a little too square for the 18 year old carrie fisher as well. She was a bit rounder back then.

Well done on the nose! You really got her there. So far fantastic start. keep us posted on the progress. The hair did give her away…

ComicCraig, I guess you missed my crits in the post above yours…have a read. Pretty much same as the others are now saying.

I would take a closer look at her eyes - especially her lower eyelid shape. the jaw part into her neck seems a little too skiney. That might be perspective…

Thanks everyone for your crits (yep- slosh, I did miss yours the first time, sorry about that, and thank you for your crit). Lots of great points made- I think this will help for the next update. I’m working on some hands now as well.

Craig

Some more work done on the face- fattened her up a little and worked proportions. Gave her some eyes to bring her to life. Still no hair (I know- I know- it needs work- but please comment on the proportions of the buns and hair). I got the gun done (post soon) and I’ve started the hands- but I my focus is the face. After looking at the image I noticed the side view shows that the slope of the nose bridge looks off (where it joins to the forehead). Please keep the critiques coming, you are my only hope.

quite good so far
I think you should decrease distance between upper lip and nose a bit and increase the eyeballs a bit

Looks like her but the actor’s face is a bit wider (or maybe just her cheeks are). Cool work!

Leshiy3d: Thank you for your crit. I’ve struggled a bit with the two issues you raised. An earlier version I did had much bigger eyeballs- I’ve since decreased them… myabe too much. I’ve found part of the reason her eyes look big is eyemake-up- the eyeliner changes how we look at the eyes. I’ll take another look at it. The lip to nose distance also gives me a headache- I’m creating a slight frown on her lips, and I find that her mouth extends down when frowning and raises when smiling… but like the eyes- maybe a small tweak is needed.

Teyon: I think you are right- a little more in the jowels it looks like- and maybe more in the cheek. I’ll take another look.

Thanks again for the crits. Its really difficult for me to see these problems without getting advice.

I attached an image and drew in red some observations I made. What I drew may be a little more exaggerated than what is actually there, but it’s just something to pay attention to.

Take a look at the pic in the upper right of your reference collection you posted. Her chin seems to be more defined and the line from the jaw to the chin isn’t so straight.

Also look at the middle bottom reference pic of her front view and your model’s front view. On your model you can draw a line from the bottom edge of the nostrils and it will be tangent with the botom part of her nose. In the referenc pic, the bottom of her nose is lower by about 1/8" - 3/16". That pic also shows the chin as being a little more defined.

Her bottom lip is almost one continuous curve. And the center part of her top lip (I think it’s called the central vermillion tubercle) is more pronounced.

And in the ref pic, her neck is just a hair wider than your model.

These are just picky crits for a model that is pretty close. Really nice work so far!

Thanks for the really thoughtful critique KrakenCMT- I’ll take a look at all the issues you’ve raised. I’ve actually already made changes to the jaw line you mentioned last night- I’ll take another look at the nose/lip placement issue. Keep in mind that I’m not modeling from just the photo you chose- I’m not modeling a smile. The way I’ve been working this model is to use several photos from multiple angles to get the expression and look- the mouth I’m making is more towards the frown which makes her lips lower on her face and flattens the lip line out a bit. I still think you might be right about the overall placement- I’ll double check it tonight.

Craig

Here is another post of my Princess Leia WIP. Thank you for your critiques, I think they really help. I put the face in perspective positions, because I'm finding that the reference photos benefit from seeing the face in these angles. I think I need to work on the hair finally- the face isn't done, but I think taking a break from it will help me to look at it fresh.![NewPrincess.jpg|1024x417](upload://xlrANoq5zoDEWpnKsDDY5uEruNI.jpeg)

the third view looks really good :+1: how about to add eyebrows?
