Really good, i agree with Leshiy3d . Needs eyebrows. People dont really look themselves without them, I reckon you got it nailed, just needs lots of tweeeeeeeeeeeking and hair.
very nice and very resembling even without texture.
Her cheeks protrude a bit more…think “baby fat”
Her jawbone doesn’t taper quite as sharply…see your lower left ref…that’s a cute little “blob”
The lower lip could be a little more rounded…hard to say what the real structure is with all the makeup she’s wearing, but kraken’s spot on
You’re close, real close…don’t give up now!!!
Those changes really help. You’re starting to capture what’s unique about her face and doing a good job of it. Keep it up!
Thanks for the crits guys.
Leshiy3d: Eyebrows might be unfinished for a little while- but they are definitely on my list.
Superspod: Thank you for your comments- and I’ll get those eyebrows eventually
Remib: Thank you. I’m not sure if I will add a texture or not… I want it mostly to show just in the model, but then again… maybe a texture. Definitely I will put in some basic texture details-eyeliner, eyebrows, lip- but maybe just something black and white. I’m a big fan of Jinwoo Lee and the way he does celebrity faces… if you haven’t seen his work- take a look… its all nurbs, crazy:

wish I could be that talented… anyways- I like his presentation, no texture, all form.
markkens: Thank you- good eye on the jaw line, I’ll have to fix that.
KrakenCMT: Thank you for your help- its paying off for me.
Finally- a question. The truth is- even though I have Zbrush 3, I started this model in Z2 and I’m not sure if I should bother going to Z3 until it is done. For the most part- it isn’t heavy detail wise except for the hair. My hair plan was to block out the forms, project a texture of hair on and use it as a mask while I inflate the strands out. Its a technique I’ve used before, but not exactly on something like this. I think it should be relatively simple- but I’ve seen some images from Z3 that make me wonder if I should try it in Z3 instead. I looked at some hair tutorials for Z3, and decided that for the most part I should keep working in Z2- this is because most of the hair work seems more loose then what I think this model needs. Anyways- if any of you have done hair modeling in Z3 and think you have some good advice- lay it on me (BTW- I plan to model the hair, so please no suggestions of using fur, shave and a haircut, paint fx, etc… also, it needs to work in Maya, so it can’t be a 2.5 z tool).
Thank you again
Craig
Very nice indeed. It’s Yoda isn’t it?
best laugh I’ve had all day- thank you
I don’t think anyone didn’t know instantly who it was, but I wonder if you would have been better leaving the all-too-obvious hair out? Surely the reaction would’ve been different? (apologies if this has already been said, I only read page 1). No doubt many would have got it as the likeness certainly seems to be there, but it’s kinda hard to be sure just how good it is without covering the famous ‘donuts’ (I can’t put both hands on the monitor to check (no, not for that reason you sickos! ))!
Great work though!
Good point. It has been mentioned before. All I can say is- I’m not making this just to see if people can guess the face. Some have asked I post without the hair- I’ll see if I can do that. At the same time- posting with the hair has its benefits- for example, the hair means it needs to be a younger Leia… at first, I used way too much older images of her for reference and the work suffered.
Sorry I haven’t worked on this for awhile- the good news is that all my free time is being dedicated to freelance projects on top of my regular work. It looks like I will be able to get back to work on this sometime next week. I know you are all waiting with baited breath
Anyways- thanks for the comments- see you next week
Craig
Okay- so I took a long break and now I have some free time again. I just started to get back into it- but here is a new update. Some facial changes (its been awhile… I forget exactly what I did) and the start of sculpting the hair. not done on hair- I want to create some individual stand deformation. I also included a copy without hair- Please ignore the ear since it is only for comp and will never be finished.

Here is the latest post. I shortened the chin length and fattened the face. I’ve included a frontal orthagraphic view, a near orthagraphic bird’s eye view, and a focal length 100 perspective view. Please let me know what you think.
Yeah- I know its just the same old image… but if you think it needs more work, or if I need to move on to detailing- please let me know. Okay- I made some more changes (really): temple, eyes, chin length, mouth height. I promise- unless you guys see something I don’t, I will move onto doing the hair, pore detail, and take a shower soon.
Thanks for you help
Craig

If you add color texture on her face, it’s gonna be her exactly…
Good work.!!
You’ve nailed the likeness. I woudln’t change anything as far as the overall sculpt.
You could take it to photo realism from here, but that will require detailed hair and skin textures.
she looks very good, I can’t wait to see her textured
Here is the first pass on the face texture. Its far from done, so please feel free to give me your input. Hair, shader, and body will be in the works.
[](http://www.geocities.com/comic_craig/texturePost_Aug01.jpg)My only real critique right now is the eyes. The eyebrows are too small (top-bottom. Too thin?), and the eye-lids are too dark. All that brown doesn’t seem right, the only makeup I remember on Leia was lipstick.
But I could be wrong!
steevols, thank you for taking the time for the critique. I agree that the brows are off- but not for the same reasons. Looking at the included photo ref- she has thin plucked brows… but I think they might be too short and mispositioned in my texture. In my opinion, the photos show she was wearing quite a bit of makeup- lots of base, blush, eyeliner. I got the color for the top of the lids from the bottom left ref image- but I agree that it might be too dark. So I guess I’m saying, you are right, something needs to be fixed, but maybe not exactly what you thought.
Thank you again,
Craig
This is coming on nice so far. Id make the iris of the eye bigger so it just reaches the bottom of eye lid
Yes; what tez says…
This girl is a classic endomorph, so rounding off the larger masses a touch wouldn’t hurt either …
I think you could ‘drop’ the outer area of her lower eyelids also considerably,
otherwise as portraits go, you’ve achieved a very close likeness, and are doing a great job - keep it going
