So about 4 years ago me and my homie had this idea for a graphic novel that never got any further than a few character descriptions and some rough sketches. It was called ‘TrailerHood’ and one of those characters that I came up with was a little boy named, ‘William Pumkin’. He was the only one I took to completion (see old drawings below) and even created a sculpy maquette of him. I recently started going back to these characters and I’m wanting to make them all in zbrush and then someday pose them all for a big group render.
What inspired me to revisit this guy was a movie my wife and I watched called, ‘SOn of Rambow’. The bully in the movie totally reminded me of William so I took a picture of him from the movie and using liquify in photoshop, reshaped and painted over him into what I envisioned for the character.
So this is where I’m at after just a couple of hours. I’m still adding the hair pieces, (which takes forever) and then I have a bunch of expressions done as soon as I fix the teeth, I will post up. Let me know what you guys think!
Thanks Chris ! I think the sketches look very good, the sculpy looks great! Needless to say, I would love to see this guy (and the bunch) get a ZBrush makeover!
!
ahahhaahhhah, that’s awesome:D
Not to shure about the added hairs but the rest is perfect.
Great work man.
funny stuff! cant wait to see the final product.
IF THAT KID ONLY KNEW THAT HIS COOL LOOKING POSED OUT CUB SCOUT PICTURE WAS GOING TO BE USED AS REFERENCE FOR SOME TRAILER PARK KID BBAAAAHHH HAHAHAHAHA!!! This looks awesome, you’ve strayed away from your original design though, Is that intentional? In this direction he doesn’t have a similarity to Chuckie, which is the character I thought of when I first saw the designs and your stunning sculpt. Now sculpting him more from this reference and adding your design, this way he becomes more seperated from that horror movie and makes him his own unique look and feel. I wanna see this guy and his mates done too, more than the hulk sculpt. Your hulk sculpt is cool but I like your unique designs FAAAR MORE, they have a lot of punch, especially in the bridge of the nose!
I can just imagine the sorta sh8t these kids would get up to. We can all relate to them. Keep drinking that petrol you machine!
Awesome Awesome … what can I say . I´m speechless … was this only renderend in ZBRUSH and composed in Photoshop ??
greets tobias
Love your works. The last pic of the medusa I really liked. I have a question about the last image posted with all the different settings rendered. Silly question time from me…do you compile all of those images on different layers in PS or something? Using different opacities? Hope that was not a stupid question(s)
thnx
Ron
Little willie Pumkin is just wikked…lol he looks so naughty…Please leave the squirel alone.:)
He looks really good…well done.
Just checked out your website, gotta say its very inspiring. I love the full sculpture of Willie. Cant wait to see him zbrushed. Love your style your very talented. I will definitely be checking on this thread for some pointers. Please keep posting.
yeah i’d also like to download the .psd and see how you do it.
Hi Chris, I really like your comic character. Very cool sketches and your sculpy work is just great! Looking forward to seeing him fleshed out in ZBrush
Etcher - thanks! Hopefully the makeovers don’t turn into do-overs.
rodion vlasov - Thanks, man.
Disco Stu - thanks! Yeah, I’m thinking about taking these guys into max at some point and building some alpha planes to look better but for now, I just plan on using photoshop to make the hair look more real for the final image.
sasquatchpoacher - Thanks Greg!
SadamHu - thanks, man. Yeah, I did stray a bit initially but I’ve since gone back towards that chucky vibe. Still tweaking the face a bit though and trying to nail down his age. Probably around 6 or 7 years old. Glad you like. I will probably keep going on these guys for a while since they are so fun.
bloodboy - Thanks a lot! Yes, the Medusa renders were all done in zbrush and then composed in photoshop.
Ron Harris - Not a silly question at all! Yes these are all rendered separately and then layered together in photoshop using different blend modes and opacities. It’s something I initially picked up from Scott Spencer’s book and then added my own twist to. I do a few extra passes for rim lighting but then have to mask out a lot of it.
DELTATHUND3R- thanks, glad you dig it! Don’t worry about the squirrel. In my story, the RC truck jumps a fence into someone’s yard and a real estate agent cuts him loose and throws the truck back over.
daugaard47 - thanks! glad you like it so far.
SadamHu - Yes, I keep meaning to put something together. It’s a LOT of layers and it’s never acheived the same way twice. Just trial and error and adjusting it to look right. I’ll see if I can get something together soon.
Captain Sensible - Thanks, Cap’n! Hope to wrap this guy up soon.
Well, I went back and made some huge tweaks based on some really awesome feedback from my buddy Steve Hilbert, one of the many talented character modelers I worked with on The Ant Bully. His feed really helped me get the “vibe” back that I was starting to lose from what made the original idea so appealing. Anyway, here’s the progress I’ve made. Going to try and finish this guy up over the break.
Wow! That looks awesome! Keep it up. Your work is so inspiring.
