Same here…and Dynamesh is going to be very useful for my next models…
I wish they uploaded the docs to the site already so we can at least have some stuff to read while we wait
heh, would have to put it off site lest they crash the server Everyone and their brother would be downloading it
i unsubscribed to this thread and am still getting email notifications whenever someone posts a comment no offense but its getting really annoying ! is it a glitch or something ?

Hi Man, while we wait for a final verdict on Zbrush R2 its cool to keep ideas flowing i guess hope you are well and coping with the wait.
Obviously Zbrush is not only good at Concept sculpting and can be used in many other ways (whatevr way you like) and i cannot tell for sure what the initial design was but as far as i can gather and judging by its 2.5 D origins and illustration specific tools (remember than first versions of Zbrush couldnt do much 3d sculpting at all ) i deffo will bet for a strong concept bias at the heart of Pixos developpment…notice that pretty much everything that is “production friendly” comes in a plugin or script flavor )Uvmaster, Decimation Master etc) opposed to the core features that are border line proprietary since moving 40 million polys outside of Zbrush is pretty much impossible and so is rendering such large meshes ,vertex painting them (totally unseen elsewhere) dropping in canvas and 2.5 d sculpt them (again never seen before) and now dynamesh as well.(also specific are Matcaps,Zspheres and realtime material display among others)
This is probably why (and in my opinion is a very good thing) they departed form a traditional perspective and were capable of leveraging new core technology that will take total rewrite for the big boys in order to catch up…in this context btw note as well teh total departure form “traditional” navigation ( that some complain about) and also the fact that despite it is a 32 bits app it still is far superior in stability and usability than Mudbox that as far as my experience goes requires a quite powerful machine to achieve the same that Z can with a modest one.(64 bits will make it even better !)
I know i might sound like a fanboy but im not…i get the reasons why people request retopo or vect disp and im for it all the way…i juts need to point out that while asking for production friendly tools is an investment of today, it is also imho using dev time that could be focus in tools of tomorrow…at the end of the day teh other production tools have a lot of catch up to do not the other way around.
I hear you when you say that you would like to be able to solve everything in one app…it is hard to decide where to stop though just like im sure Autodesk could have decided to invest in a proper Zbrush competition and not a very light version of it (mudbox) but i guess they decided to remain focused on what was their strong assets.Autodesk is a pretty massive corporation now and they have amazing tools in their catalog…some of which are border line Scifi like the excellent photofly or if you stick with modleing some incredible modleing tools in their engineering suite…yet despite their heavy weight they cannot do all.
Also where to stop? if you want to retopo fine and vect disp fine… but then? u need to rig too and animate and comp…where do you stop? where do you draw the line? i think Pixo will do this things one day or another but i am overall quite happy with their priority list.
being in production everyday and as much as id love to see one app doing everything from concept sketching to ticketing in the box office it simply is not only not happening but it is becoming everyday more and more specialized and dont think its going to change anytime soon. This is what i see on the floor everyday.
artists are becoming very specialized too and i guess their tools too…personally i dont find this a bad thing because that allows me to focus and become better at one thing rather than mediocre at everything…CG becomes more and more complex and achieving an outstanding level in any discipline requires focus and dedication…it will take a lifetime of experience to be good at everything.
Before adding anything else I wish they fixed the UI. And by UI I mean the sliders which are a bitch to use with a tablet. They are very sensitive.
Good point
I think I know what you mean for example I go to tool/deformation using my intuos tab in many situations i set down the pen at that point grab the mouse to either slide or to click on a value so I can enter a number. Its not a huge deal tho
Ive been reading the faq and all new feat of zb4r2 a few hours ago, but seems they deleted the info pages…

i second taht using deformation slider with teh pen is a bit annoying
BTW wouldnt it be nice to ahve a Relax brush instead of justa deformer? i know we have smooth but not relax…doesnt make sense and i guess taht i shouldnt be diff to ahve it as a brush?
I just discovered that PaintStop is also sort of part of the Projection Master… I had no idea, I have had the blasted thing the whole time and never used it…
NOW I have something to do while I wait!
I just discovered that PaintStop is also sort of part of the Projection Master…
How so?
Well for the first time I just fired it up while I had objects on the canvas, I have always just started Zbrush and fiddled about with it till I got board, Im not an artist so things that are flat are not much fun.
This time though it told me I ought to turn off perspective (I did not) and then all of a sudden I was painting on the object I had been messing with.
Its rather neat and great fun till everything turned grey and I couldn’t fix it.
Well, that might be kind of hard to make… because essentially what the relax deformer is doing is applying a smooth deformer to the lowwer SDs of the model, and then reprojecting the detail from the higher SDs.
You can actualy do the same thing manualy, just drop down a couple SDs, smooth/ reposition the part you want, then click the ‘Reproject Higher Subdiv’ button. (= same thing)
Gotta try that out! Any idea how everything turned grey?

C’mon email…patiently awaiting you…I have the day off due to a Typhoon off the coast of Japan. Need some Claytime to play with.
They should not have said it is releasing on September 20 if it is not going to.
It will, probably just before midnight… wonder what last minute stuff their doing? Probably just waiting on purpose so half the people go to sleep and don’t flood the servers as much downloading once they release! Oh well… it’s a free update so can’t complain
