Mac & Zbrush 3 Thread

well over on cgtalk one of the top zbrush artists hinted ‘the day isn’t over yet…’ in the mudbox thread…

'never under-estimate the power of the force’

the day still have a whole load of hours to run yet…silo ‘just’ announced their
new update so anything can happen in the next half hour…or several hours.

the day ain’t over yet … PLEASE! They missed all the publicity they could have gotten the first day.

The year ain’t over yet either, nor the decade.

Have you got a link? I couldn’t see anything in the ZB forum, is it the Mudbox forum or general discussion…?

well people ARE relaseing new apps today…not everyone releases info on the first day…xsi released their info before siggraph but then sneaked in the info about the ice ik at siggy to throw a curve ball autodesk’s way!

the stratergy is to let some companies drop their new apps…see what their new stuff has to offer before showing your stuff…mudbox is riding high at the moment but i have a feeling zbrush is going to pull the rug from under their feet…

yup…i’m looking at this in a positive light…someone has to with all the doom n gloom and darkness around this thread!

no in the news section…

hang on…

http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=59&t=663323&page=4

now am i grasping at straws or will we see some cool goodness?

…crossed toes!

Ta!

i think you’re reading into that, i think he’s just saying its not over until its over right? i don’t think he’s in the know.

well not one to crack jokes around here in case i get lynched…but…

exactly ‘who’ is in the know’ in regards zbrush?

everyone is speculating…either on how the edge of the world is about to crack and throw us into the abyss called windows or others see it as a cunning plan to throw autocash [autodesk] out the back end of siggy with a flea in their ear to REALLY step up to the plate and make something better than zbrush.

meats meir [spell?] said 3.5 will be shown at siggy…and i trust he’s in the know…so i’ll stand by that and until proven otherwise i’ll expect NEWS on 3.5 this week when pixologic are good ready to tell us.

Mubox cant compete with zbrush true true but in 2 years zbrush will be struggling more than it is no w and mudbox will have 2 more versions under its belt.

The best bet for zbrush is to sell out to a company that can handle it. Can you imagine the sweet new developments a company like ‘Adobe’ could add to a product like this. I know the adobe suite made big improvements to macromedias products when they took them over and really the only thing they are missing in their line is a 3d software program. Zbrush may be able to compete with autodesk in the short run because they had a head start but in 5 years they wont be able to do that.

Ya know, moments like these make me feel like Pixologic is just in the business of screwing with our heads. This IS the place to debut your new software. Siggraph is where you do it. You’ve got to make a big deal out of it, and by the sound of it Zbrush has little to no presence at the show, and the only news we’ve received can be classified as a rumor.
I’m seriously expecting December to come and go, and then just have Pixologic start responding to our e-mails saying “Zbrush for the Mac? Are you nuts? We never ever said we’d release a mac version of Zbrush 3. We said from day one that Zbrush 3 was PC exclusive.” In some banal attempt to cover their tracks and butts, as it were.

of all the companies to choose from…adobe?..are you kidding me?
they charge 2.5 X the cost of the usa pricepoint in the u.k so zbrush would be what…£1300plus vat?..for usa viewers… $2600…

no thank you!

now if apple bought it!
or avid… [xsi]
or autodesk
or newtek [lightwave]

actually i’d like pixologic to keep developing it…

In the words of Randy Pausch who just recently passed:

“When people really ride you about something, it shows that they care. You really have to be concerned when you know your doing something poorly, and nobody is telling you about it.”
So Pixologic, all the sh*t you’re getting from us Mac users means that we really love your software, and we (most of us) have not given up on you. You should worry when this thread dies. That means you will have lost us.

For almost the entire duration of this thread (and the many other threads on this subject that have come and gone) folks have been trying to make it clear to Pix. that the silent treatment has to stop.
Unfortunately I think the only Pixologic employee that reads this thread is Aurick. And I surmise that the communication between him and his boss is largely one way.
Someone should print out this entire thread in a large font on banner paper and express ship it to Ofer Alon and Jamie Labelle personally.
Either that or use the printout to wallpaper their Siggraph booth with it.

Do you really think Ofer Alon is some recluse, living high up in some ivory tower, or holed up in an isolation booth, or stuck on some uncharted island with absolutely no idea of what’s going down here? Not knowing your customers, or their needs, seems like a rather interesting way to run a company in a fiercely competitive market. (Run it into the ground.)

No! But having him show up in this thread/forum every once in a while to give some updates about Mac progress would go a long way in alleviating the anger and bitterness most of us have about this fiasco.

You are preaching to the choir, my friend.

Motto of this thread that is… (and exactly my point) Hence my wallpaper suggestion.

I am new to zbrush compared to most here. I really wanted this program to work out as there are allot of resources for learning it. I wont be buying another version. If I had known more at the time I wouldnt have ought what I did. Where I go I havent figured out yet but I honestly dont see a future with this company. Even without a mac release this has shown me how this company is managd. In a highly competitive field no less. I just dont see them surviving the comming years ahead and I dont see them making the right decisions to allow it’s userbase to move forward.

I am going to try to learn some more about mudbox 2009 and I will try to make it work I am not in need of many of the features of zbrush. So I am hoping mudbox does what I need. I need a supplement to my maya modeling. Since both are autodesk products I hope at least in the future they will compliment each other.

I am not going to invest months into learning zbrush only for it to become a antiquated software by a defunct company. So they DID loose a customer in me.
