Mac & Zbrush 3 Thread

From what aurick said, he probably wasn’t told this information. Or if he was told, then yes, he was specifically instructed not to.

I too was under the impression that aurick was more in the know, but at least he’s doing all he can. I wish there were more people at Pixologic who were actively keeping in touch with the community, even if they can’t or won’t reveal any secrets. 4 years waiting for the next OS X version is a long time when users are tying to use tools to make a living.

It’s a time machine, so you can get back all the precious time you’ve wasted waiting for news.

In all my years doing business and dealing with software companies, this is by far and large the single biggest farce I have come across.

oh… and a december release date? Yeah right! I’ll believe it when I see it. Pixologic’s promises have exactly ZERO credibility left after the past 4 years of lies, delays and spin doctoring. I just cannot make myself trust them anymore.

:td:

Man…I wish I was excited, but December? Damn. That’s pretty close to February (wink, wink)…

Some spectacular new thing is coming that’s well worth the wait? Nice…

It better not be zsquares or some crap…

…spill the beans, go ahead…

Yes, this December. And he never told me what the “spectaular thing” was. He just said a revolutionary concept. And I suppose the system requirements will still be on “Intel” based machines only. Probably using the new Quartz engine.

PS: I can’t vouch if this is all true. It’s just what I was told.
I’m hoping for the best as well. In the meantime, I’ll brush up on my traditional sculpting skills.

My prognostication skills are still intact

And a clue; This book* has been in my shopping cart at Amazon for at least a year and a half, the publishing date has been pushed back regularly and is now November 10th. So I would hazzard a guess that we Mac users could expect to have v3x in our hands by Christmas. It is common to expect product ship dates by the Holiday season for apps announced and demoed at Siggy.

Originally “Unleashing Zbrush” by Anson Call, now “Zbrush Demystified” by Kelly Murdock.

Did he say if the revolutionary concept was going to be included in the formal announcement?

Sooo I think in this situation the best solution is to take the refund and consider trusting pixologic again and buying zbrush when it will be ready for mac…

All paying Mac customers should be given what’s supposedly done in beta form so far, and should be beta testers up to a release date… if there really is going to be one. I for one still believe that Pixologic doesn’t have anything for Mac on it’s plate.

I believe the “revolutionary concept” will be included in the formal announcement. Also, he did specify that MAC owners of version 2 will be updated for FREE to the 3.5 version completely bybassing the version 3.1 of course. (sorry, forgot that in the bullet points)

ElectricCat, thank you so much for your info. It shouldn’t take a customer to deliver news here, but that’s very cool of you to do. You f*#@in’ rock!

See you peoplez in December. It’s so funny I was telling my coworkers all day that Santa was coming to see me today. They kept looking at me like I was crazy since I never explained that Siggraph is where announcements in my industry happen. I kept singing “here comes santa claus, here comes santa claus…”! Now here we are with a Christmas release…

I’m diving back into digital speed painting until then. It’s often more fun anyways. Bah, Humbug…

It is not for FREE. They have already spent my money for over one year and they are going to do so for at least 5 more months.
We have paid with our wasted precious time too.

Can’t argue with that…

I hope the spectacular thing is something like the realtime preview GI and hard edged shadow options in Mudbox 2009, cuz that’s exactly what I’ve been waiting for from ZBrush. That, plus painting multiple channels on one model like texture, specular, bump and reflections. I’d be set and very happy.

Oh, and a good fur/hair plugin/feature.

December…wow. Saves me the trouble of lurking here once a week I guess. Running windows on my mac proved pretty worthless to me. I gambled on having the software sooner. I’m disappointed but at least I have a target to look for now.

My only criticism in how this has played out is by announcing a mac version was in Beta. 1/2+ year is not a beta test IMHO.

I would love to see polygon-independent painting, after ZBrush runs on OS X of course.

Big thank you again for letting us know what’s going on, electricCAT.

So… electricCAT, did you actually see it running on OS X?

hello mudbox or maybe modo. Goodbye Pixologic, so nice to know youhowever briefly.

To all of my fellow mac users, I won’t be back here I think, if it is December than it is full speed on other pursuits including another sculpting app if i think I can swing it. It’s been, well not really fun but it’s been nice to commiserate with you all.
ciao

I do think that aurick does a great job at answering people’s questions about the actual usage of zbrush. He has helped me out quite a few times in a responsive and informative way, so this has much more to do with Pixologic than him. I think he actually needs to fire the guy who decided that silence is what makes customers happy…

Sorry to defend the guy, you’ve got every right to be pissed off, as do I!!!

This delay is out of hand, and isn’t even a delay any more, it’s a completely skipped version. I just hope whatever new “revolutionary concept” they pull out of the goodie jar justifies the wait. That would take one hell of a new feature…

So that’s it. I’m certainlly not surprised, but I am mad as hell. The last day of Siggraph is Friday. Either electricCAT’s informant was correct, in which case it’s all up in smoke, or he was full of pixols and there is no real news, in which case it’s still all up in smoke.

I tell you, if I were anywhere near LA tomorrow, I’d be at that exhibition with fire in my eyes. I have had more than I am willing to take. Just to get to Siggraph over the past few months I had to extend my patience beyond all reason. It is now too late. It is well beyond too late! I said before that there had to be a Mac ZB 3.x release today. That did not happen. Not even some kind of announcement.

End of story.
