I think if it’s not at least given a real steadfast date (like in the next month) today I’m looking into a refund.
I want it, but I’m sick of the agony. I HATE using windows. I’ll just make the best of modos features.

If siggraph passes without a mention of ZB3 for mac then that tells us that it’s far far off if it is comming at all. If they dont give me something then I am moving in another direction. I wont invest my time and money into a company this unreliable. I only have so much time to learn I need to use it in the best way I can.
Well, I have spent all day checking out this thread hoping to get some news. I hardly did any work, and now it’s 5:30pm and time for me to go home. I just hope that by the time I get home there’s is some kind of news.
I’m so frustrated that if I don’t hear any news by tomorrow night, I will ask for a refund. I’m just sick of waiting.
And to think I was so sure that something was coming that I bought the mac license yesterday in expectation of being really happy today.
I am going to feel like quite the a$% if all I bought was a long in the tooth version 2 and a bunch of empty promises.
holds head in hands and sobs…
Well… if there is no news on the Mac release, I agree that it is likely a long way off or not coming at all. Sure we could all just use the Windoze version but if they are this way with the current release for the mac, what will stop them from doing something like this on Win once the Mac version is officially dropped? I would rather just buy Mudbox for my bootcamp partition. At least we know Autodesk isn’t just going to disappear with our money… infact, I’d rather just get a refund from Pixo and use that to buy Mudbox.
I just checked out that mudbox demo and I am impressed to heck and back. In a year or two mudbox is gonna beat the pants off zbrush. They have come a long way in the last version from what i can see. I am definately going to have to seriously look into it. Heck if there was a mac version of mudbox I would probably be sold right now. But I have to admit it does look like they just stole half the ideas from zbrush.
I’m amazed that no one knows anything…at all. I figured there would be some sort of internet news, if not from Pixologic, from someone blogging or something…
…Maybe the Autodesk camera man will accidentally fall over and knock the camera in the direction of Pixologic’s booth. That’s what I’m counting on now, a total miraculous accident through which I will catch a split second uninformative glimpse at ZB3.5…
…Hey, as boring as 3d lectures are, it could happen…
I don’t care where their ideas came from, I want the tools so I can do the work. I have to say that so far Autodesk has been a good thing for Maya-from what I can tell so I have to believe that if they can develop a mac version of Mudbox, that is where my money is going and maybe even if they don’t do a mac version.
It’s a rip isn’t it? I appreciate originality so much. It’s just like I hate seeing iphone knockoffs, they just piss me off!
Mudbox doesn’t have as many features outside of general sculpting and painting on an imported mesh, though, so don’t be fooled too easy. There’s a lot more features even in ZB3.1.
Has anyone actually gone to someone at the Siggraph Booth and asked them if they plan on showing 3.5?
I have a feeling that the Pixologic crew are too busy showing off Bill Henderson’s 3D Sculpts from his Offload Studio printer.
Congrats to Bill on producing such great prints of great artists work and for hooking up with Pixologic to show them off.
NOW, LETS SEE THE PREVIEW OF THE NEXT VERSION OF ZBRUSH ALREADY!!!
james i too wish for more 2.5d painting tools/upgrades
maxgamer, you have a link to that?
Just Go to:
http://offloadstudios.com/core/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=33&Itemid=49
Click on the links under Featured Artists and you will see some of the work that the Offload Team will be taking down to the Picxologic Booth.
Also, there have been some posts on ZBrushCentral showing more of Bill’s prints.
maybe the demo is under nda
Oh it’s totally a ripoff. I havent gotten into mudbox much at all so I dont know a whole lot about it. The thing is right now I am still in the training stages on 3d design. The decisions I make now will be the foundation of my career. With Autodesk I know they will be cranking out new versions of mudbox for years to come and even tho they are still behind zbrush right now in 2-3 years they will have surpassed them. They have come a long long way just in the the latest version from what little I know. I’ve been studying maya hardcore for about 5 months. Zbrush was going to be a supplement to that but now I dont know.
It does seem all programs are focusing on PC software so when my trusty old mac hits it’s golden years I will have no choice but to go back to PC. I hate it with a passion but that’s where the technology is these days.
well the day’s slipped away…no sign of zbrush 3.5 in either a text, blog, news release or even a rubber banded rumor…nothing on cg talk, flay, here, zbrush main site, maxunderground, newtak’s forums…zip…nothing!
really poor showing for those outside the siggraph building on the rest of the plnaet!
…they must be swamped at siggraph…just think when they get back to the hotel and have a quuick look at the forums…and this thread…
will they upload anything?..
They announced they would be showing a demo of 3.5 so they will have to show that. People here are hoping and speculating that a Osx release will also be announced but that may be a pipe dream. the 3.5 demo however is officially supposed to happen.
Now if the 3.5 demo comes and goes without mention of a mac release then you will know.
It would be a real shame to put the demo under an NDA unless of course they have new features that really blow Autodesk’s Mudbox out of the water.
For actual sculpting it really doesn’t matter which program I use, Zbrush or Mudbox. The bigger issue for me is pipeline production. Currently Zbrush has allowed me to stay in the Sculpting package longer for doing painting and ZMapper. This is a huge plus rather than having to go through multiple packages to get a final product.
Now that Mudbox has painting it now makes it easier to switch over to that package. Especially now that the creativity pack for Max now includes solid poly reduction tools for getting half decent Occlusion Maps and Normal Maps out of Max. Instead of 4 programs I am now down to 2 for the Mudbox option.
Zbrush has a steeper learning curve but it is an amazing package (minus the work arounds for the many glitches and bugs).
I will have to seriously look at Mudbox if no real announcment is made for a new Zbrush release this year.
dude I was just poking some fun at the beta tester / nda thing… they couldn’t do nda for the demo unless it was closed door/private meeting - - and in that case they wouldn’t have it blasted on their homepage
I’m not so sure. They had that announcement on their Siggraph page for only a few hours before removing the “3.5” part of it. It’s still not there. Are you aware of some other “official” announcement that it’s going to be 3.5? One would think it would be 3.5, but with these guys anything is possible. It might be 3.2, or even 3.1416.
