Mac & Zbrush 3 Thread

I think it would be fair enough to ask for your money back under these circumstances, but I’m really not convinced it would be reasonable to expect any software company to bring out a new version of their software for PPC. If Apple no longer support it why should anyone else? If Pixologic do support PPC they must surely be doing so at a loss and are to be praised for such benevolence no matter how late

LOL! YOu’re kidding right? As I see it, they owe me either, a working free update as promised or my $500 back.

Actually, rereading your statement, you were kidding.

Hang on a second. I bought a car 18 months ago. Since then a newer model has come out. Should I still be able to get parts for my car “edition” from the the manufacturers or do I have to get a new one?? This whole disposable approach with regards to the natural evolution of computer technology is annoying. Everything should be backward compatible where at all possible - it’s just good manners. Likewise Apple still release all sorts of hardware and software that are Universal Binary/compatible with older macs. So to say they no longer support PPC is not entirely correct

Allot of software companies have trouble making programs for 2 diffrent operating systems. Especially if they are trying to use the same team to develop both which is what it seems is happening here.

I have waited for new releases in the past from software companies and usually if they wont give a definitive answer to a release or even a general area it means they are having serious issues with the program and until they can figure out how to fix these issues they cant move forward.

Ive come to the conclusion that if your gonna use zbrush your gonna have to own a PC to run it on. Simply put shortly after the mac release they will probably be releasing the next generation for PC keeping mac users perpetually behind by months or years. Are you really going to want to use ZBrush 3.1 when Zbrush 4 gets released for PC?

Theyre not going to magically catch up to PC here. Mac users will always be getting their software after PC users get theirs. There will always be a Mac & Zbrush (insert number here) Thread

The pixologic team has hit snags a few times with mac development. They were unable to bring the Zmapper plugin to zbursh 2 for the mac which i believe has to due with it being tied to direct X or some implementation of openGL taht was not supported on the mac side.

They obviously thought they were close back in February, were beta testing what they had. BUT either hit a critical issue, or had made some major feature improvements to the PC code they wanted to implement on the mac side sending things back.

Ultimatley I would say that the delay now is so that there is not a delay of 6 months (Zb 2) or a year and counting (zb 3.1) in the future for a OSX release. I believe they are gutting and unifying the code base so they really can do simultanous releases on both Mac and PC. I don’t imagine they enjoy the amount of effort it is taking them to port things.

If they are gonna show Zbrush 4 at siggrapgh it is quite possible the PC userbase will have to pay for it and the Mac side not.

Fair point, I do understand and I’m not trying to start an argument. I realise there are a few PPCs out there still - I have a perfectly working dual G5 running ZB2 - but Apple has an obligation to support its hardware customer to a point, 3rd party software makers don’t. If I was developing software for the mac today I would absolutely not support PPC because it is a dead investment. Commercial concerns really should not be trifling in dead investments. Just my 2 penneth
However in this case its taken pix so long to get something out the door I think it would be perfectly reasonable for people to ask for their money back. Sounds like most people here bought 2 with a view to getting 3 free, and because I believe it was specifically stated 3 would go up in price once it was released.
Though it is frustrating I’m still OK to wait for a free upgrade. I’m managing with 2 and sometimes 3 in bootcamp.
Cheers

Hmmm… strange. I saw the news on his site the other day, but it now seems to have disappeared.

Well I ignored Aurick’s ‘advice’ and my new 8-core MacIntel is on its way (I had to give up on PPC at some time, so why not now while I still get decent money for the Quad?)

So, fingers crossed, in just a few days’ time I can run a nice new app on my nice new Mac…

/optimism mode

I have only had ZBrush for Mac PPC for a couple of hours. But I keep seeing references to ZBrush 2.03. My info says I have ZBrush 1.0 (Downloaded when I bought my copy.) I found links to the upgrade but they were dead. Can someone tell me where to go to bring my copy up to date?

Sorry for tacking this on to this thread but I also can’t figure out how to start a new thread! Thanks in advance for helping a little old lady out.

I’m working off of a G4, 1.7 dual, 1.5 meg memory, and 10.5.5. I hope to upgrade to an intel-machine soon.

…couldn’t have anything to do with some beans being spilled could it?..

Well it looks like their won’t be any competition from MB on the MAc side of things yet. MB2009 press release only talks about Windows :frowning:

I appologise to Meats if any problem was caused by my posting of what I read.

Sorry

Mike R

Please contact [email protected] and include your purchase information. We’ll get you sorted out.

Actually, I suspect that when that site put up the announcement regarding Meats presenting at the User’s Group Meeting, they copied and pasted text from a previous UGM.

Oh Ok. I first saw it on the cgtalk forums without the mention of a new zbrush and went to his personal site which had that addition.

No matter. No news.

that quote is gone from the post…
sounds like someone made a boo-boo

…edit…
oh yeah, btw when is zb3 coming out for mac??

Oh, well. It looks like that custom-built Mac Pro I bought a few months back is gonna make me one heck of an expensive paper weight. @#∆≠!!!

PLENTY of other apps running on this macpro
life goes on…

Well I know that E-ON Software will be previewing Vue 7 at Siggraph, they have sent out emails announcing it. Something to look forward to.

John

I wonder how Pixo is coming along with that Mac version, anyway. Maybe they’ve had a breakthrough…
