I’d buy Maxon’s sculpting solution in a heartbeat–I haven’t heard any rumors to support that they’re going that way, but it’s fun to contemplate.

I’m holding off any further comment until Siggraph. After that, if there is no satisfaction, the fur is certainly going to fly.
As for rumors of a C4D sculpting tool or module at Siggraph, that would be a very nice surprise. I have a C4D license but gave up on the app a couple of years ago because of what I felt was inadequate support for organic modeling. Other than that, it’s an outstanding program.
Zdrey, just curious, what is it that you can’t model in C4d? Sure, you can’t sculpt per se, but it is more than capable of modeling pretty much anything, atleast for a base mesh for sure.

It isn’t so much that I couldn’t model anything in C4D or any other high end 3D app, rather it’s the degree of difficulty for me personally. I probably could model Michaelangelo’s David in C4D, but it would take me a year! I’m much more comfortable with inanimate objects, but that’s not what I want to do. Hence my interest in ZBrush, and the fact that I was trusting enough, and as it turns out, foolish enough to plunk down my money exactly one year ago this month.
I have to say that I bought zbrush 2 for mac and I already had an intell ( the first batch), and it never worked right ( it would only launch after a fresh restart).
So, I can actually say I never got what I ordered up, just an alternative method to what I was sold.
I like zbrush.
I just want it for mac maybe in a reasonable time frame not two and something years.
still hanging in the wings… waiting for a sign. or the planets to align… or be struck by lightning… the goddamn force to darken, something!
I’m going to siggraph but I don’t expect any miracles.
They are just to quiet for me to think any good news will be coming from them. …maybe their booth will have a coming soon yellow construction tape for decoration since their (speculating) wont be any products or at least only half (the only half, windows) the conveyable amount. :td: :td: :td: Sorry for the rant, but come on now lets be fair!
how can it be in advanced beta testing, yet at the same time they are not sure if there will be a ppc and an intel release?
From the things that we’ve heard so far I’m quite confident that we won’t see Zbrush3 for mac any time soon. Even if we will, their approach on this issue will make me think twice, buying a future release.
Their handling of the problem shows lack of respect to their customers however big or small this user base is. After all this time they choose to avoid speaking about this issue like it doesn’t exist. We haven’t even heard an apology from them. They even show that they’re irritated by this whole issue, saying that it will be ready when it’s ready. It’s outrageous. I get upset even thinking about it.
I dont know if this is for mac folks but have a look at Meats Meiers website here http://www.3dartspace.com/ and in particular note the post dated July 30th.
For those that dont want to look it states that on the 12th August there is a Pixologic/Gnomon show.
The last sentence reads: Pixologic will also be showing off the new Zbrush that evening.
Cheers

That is a interesting find but I’m guessing it won’t be for mac users which will fuel things up even more.
I wonder how they will handle it then.
that actually sounds positive. if anyone knows the scoop it is meats. maybe they are going to drop a z bomb that week. who knows, 3.5 could be flaunting some killer new features (including mac support). let us hope.
Thanks for that, Mike. Actually, after what has been said about bringing Mac and PC together development-wise, “the new Zbrush” logically would indicate what has been hinted at by aurick in his more optimistic replies: Namely, a combined Mac/Windows release with “surprising” new features. To not do something like this at Siggraph, after all that has happened and the year-long delay, would appear suicidal for Pixo.
It sounds promising.
That really does sound positive. 3.1 doesn’t really count as the “new” ZBrush anymore. Plus that’s the day after the opening of Siggraph. We could very well be within a week of the official delivery of the goods…
For those that haven’t read up on them, rabbit holes (3d full color holograms that can also show over a thousand frames of animation) are f#*%ing awesome! Quite a bit out of the average joe’s budget up there in the thousands, but definitely something to pay attention to for the future of digital art prints.
Well Meats uses a PC soooooooooooooo great news for PC users, again…
We wont be told a thing until it happens, if Siggraph is the place then so be it & about time too, but my guess is we’ll see some new bits for both PC & Mac versions, maybe we’ll see a beta version for the Mac running too, nothing more…
I soooooo hope I’m wrong…
we are not really waiting for ZB3… we are STILL waiting for ZB 2.5… here’s the sad truth.
from the sheer volume of posts on this particular thread, pixologic should be able to see the interest mac users have in their product and reciprocate that interest with consistent feedback. communication makes or breaks products all the time.
I would have hope to hear something before sigg08, if next week they come out and say “we have this great product, it will be mac/pc compatible, and arriving in fall of this year”, then i think I’ll probably… do nothing just like all of us have for the past year.
Pixo owes us nothing. We’re not paying them to give us updates on software we want to use, did we?
some of us, like myself, just bought this software 1 year ago when the news of an intel compatible version was coming. i bought it thinking maybe a few months down the road i could use it. i have no working version nor have i ever. if this does not happen by siggraph then i want my money back. and i am sure many others will as well. it is only a short matter of time before someone else steps up to the plate for us Mac users. Pixologic better have a nice big surprise for us this month, because if all this secrecy was for nothing and turns out to have been just an attempt to buy time by dishing out little beta testing jibberish, they will have a lot of people really pissed off.
I’m pretty confident we’ll see - at least - a working version of Mac Zbrush 3.x on the 12th. I’m not so sure it’ll be on PPC, sadly, but stranger things have happened.
But if the Mac version doesn’t appear at SIGGRAPH, without any mention whatsoever of its status or porgress, well… that’s when it starts getting nasty, I reckon.
I just can’t understand all that secrecy. What’s their goal really? Do they want us to believe that Z3 is on it’s late stage beta testing while they don’t have nothing at all, or they have finish it already and now they wait for siggraph to make a big impression? Either of the two doesn’t impress me much after 2 years still waiting for Zbrush 2.5
lol. Operative word much?
(emphasis mine)
And that, sir, is where you are incorrect! I paid. I didn’t receive. Since they have my money in their pocket, yes, they do owe me the software they said the would get me.
I’m not chucking out my “out-of-date” Quad PPC. It’s a great machine. With 4.5 gigs ram it packs a fair bit of power. Why should I have to go to additional expense just to run ZB which I purchased in advance? I’ll get my money back and go buy modo or something with it, or maybe even 3D Coat.
