Mac & Zbrush 3 Thread

A “jump drive?” Is that one of those things they sell at the checkout counter at Office Max that looks like a keychain fob and has a USB plug on one end?

jump drive… like fred flinstone

Yeah, it’s a little usb memory stick. Probably not the right word, but hey. Plug it in and you’ll be able to transfer data between OS’s easily. Be sure to get one with enough memory to save the size of files you want. In the case of saving psd.'s from Zbrush, you won’t need much. But I suggest you at least get a 2GB memory stick just for extra means of transporting and storing data.

Another note - if you’re a 2d illustrator, get the dvd from Meats Meier “Introduction to Zbrush 3.” Or at least download the “illustration” chapter (ch. 17) and any others at gnomology.com. It explains 2.5d illustration, which not many people in the 3d world use. But once you get the hang of illustrating on a 2.5d canvas with the 3d tools you sculpt, it’s amazing. This is a feature that often gets overlooked, but you will find that it offers a lot of control with lighting, rendering, and adding detail that your system couldn’t handle in the 3d world. Just my 2 cents…
Super Glitcher, that’s hilarious…

I’m really looking forward to playing with the 2 and 2.5 features.
I want to suport 3D coat despite its obvious fledgling status because it is important to have more choices on the mac - only good can come of that.

If indeed the upcoming release is to have a surprise, version 4, etc, at this point I would think they would wait until Siggraph/Aug for a release. Look at the CGSociety Siggraph/Meats Meier Animation Mother Opening which would play right into a corporate announcement.

This certainly would be a delay that we mac users would find hard to take, but it would mean an overall win in the long run with a new full version.

Doubt it!
I’m betting on a 3.x version for Mac short-term
and future X.x release being dual-platform, and
I make no speculation when that will be.

I have a feeling they’d like this release done and
over ASAP. If you’re rolling into the spotlight
you don’t want this kind of bagage sitting in
your lap.

That would really suck. So it would still be months away, when the slightest bit of info we can get is that it’s really close, it’s in the last beta stages.

If it was only another 2 to 3 months in the begining, no biggie, but add the 12 months on before that, and it is just ridiculous. They better not be waiting with a date in hand (Siggraph) to release this vaporware err I mean software that most of us already paid for.

Actually I’m running 10.4 on my Macbook Pro and can access both the Mac and Windows partitions from OS X. A flash drive shouldn’t be needed.

Me too…from OSX, not when in windows. A flash drive is required because he chose the partition option where you can’t access Windows files from the Mac partition.

I’ve been running MacFuse and the NTFS extension for more than a month now. It works great. It allows you to read and write to a Windows NTFS drive from within Mac OS X. When you are in boot camp, your OS X drives don’t appear from within XP, but as long as you save everything to the NTFS (C:\) drive, it doesn’t really matter.

Cheers,
J.

Speaking of zBrush 3 for mac…

:small_orange_diamond: :grimacing:

wow another mac thread! i thought mac threads would be banned since the last one was closed down. still waiting for news. still hoping you ppc guys will get your port.

Actually Pixologic waiting until Siggraph sounds quite probable. It’s 3 months away and they have already stretched it this far. Remember what they did with v2.5 then all of a sudden after waiting so long v3 appeared (for PC :()

I think the previous mac thread was closed becuase someone went persobal and started name calling etc…

I doubt it. They’ve already told us that they’d try to get it out before, and now they’re in the testing phase, so it can’t be that much longer.

Are youy sure? I don’t recall them saying before Siggraph? I do hope you are right though.

they have been in the testing phase since zbrush3 windows came out

Isn’t it about time for a news update? I’m itching to get my hands on it now… All I can do is watch video tutorials and drool.

This is what’s going to happen…

At Siggraph, there will be a big announcement that ZBrush 4 has arrived. With all new tools and Alpha controls and a live link with Photoshop CS4. Of course this will be a Windows only release and when questioned about the Mac release date, the reply will be… are you ready?

" The Mac version of ZBrush 3 is just weeks around the corner. It will be here soon. I have no futher comment."

Actually, there’s more than one benefit that will come from the release of ZB3 for Mac. Once I have it installed and working, the first thing I’m going to do is wipe Windows off the face of the earth! …Er, well, at least off the face of my hard drive. Just one partition, all OSX, more free space on the drive, no more deedle-de-dum on startup and that deathly boring green and blue landscape.

In short, Yippee!

Meanwhile, the days dra-a-a-ag. …Has my watch stopped?
