Mac & Zbrush 3 Thread

Recieved today from Pixologic support :
Hi there,

We still haven’t set an official release date for ZBrush 3 for Mac. However, it is currently in beta testing and as soon as that is finished it should be released.

It should be ready quite soon. I suggest you keep an eye on our website, as it will certainly be announced as soon as we have a concrete release date.

Which basically means if it had been told by a politician: “I have no idea when it’ll be released, be patient, we’ll tell you when it’s ready…”

Maybe the code writtin guys have been busy writting speaches for the presidential campaign in the US?

lol

Don’t get too excited. They are probably writing the code in “Carbon” and so next year they might think about rewriting the entire app in “Cocoa” to take advantage of the 64bit OS and that will set us back another 12 months to catch up with the Windows guys. And we’ll still be looking at ZB4 and the Windows users will be on ZB6 !!!
Hehehehe…

Thank’s for that. I’ve often wondered, if you can laugh and cry at the same time

nooooooo way…
the whole z3/mac ‘issue’ is hot and bad press,
pixo will (ok, should) do everything possible to
create as much separation between
z3/mac <-> siggraph as possible.

Would you want thousands of irritated people
at your trade show??

There may be real things to be ‘down’ about,
but speculation on this one is a waste, imho.

What they need to do is release a dual-platform
update, even if it’s totally minimal. THAT would
be good press and the kind of action they need
to start patching up the PR landscape.

I agree, but that dual platform update should be pretty significant. It’s been a year. Surely, all of this time hasn’t been spent just figuring out how to make 3.1 work on a Mac. I’m betting on some advanced new features, some improvement on the normal ones, and a upgraded user interface. Zbrush has become extremely popular in 2d and 3d. I’m sure they’ve invested significant time (no sh**!) and money into new ideas and inventions. I can’t imagine it just being some weenie update. We’ll take what we get though.

fabster: or maybe they’ve been busy thinking up and writing 90 percent of the software you use… Maybe they’re actually developing software for multiple platforms like people are requesting and it’s not as simple as drawing or writing on a piece of paper.

How many of you guys know the kind of math that goes into developing an application like ZBrush? Complicated mathematics coupled with insane algorithms are what make ZBrush what it is. OS X’s presentation layer and most graphics platforms/frameworks are far less complex.

To you, it’s probably just a pretty face.

Since we’re on the subject of running OSX and Windows on the same computer, I wonder if anyone here has experienced this problem:

I have Windows XT running under Boot Camp, and when I reboot from XT back into OSX I find that the clock is exactly six hours slow. As I write this, my Mac says it’s 2:43 AM, but the clock on the wall says 8:43. Anyone else have this problem, and is there a solution?

I don’t know what XT is. But if it’s anything like XP then just set your peecee clock in the control panel. There’s a little clock thingy in the lower right hand peecee dock. Or go to the Start menu and select control panels there.

Is there any way that we can ban Kosher from coming onto Mac topics?

Excellent! Now that Kosher has once again graced us with his balanced, insightful commentary, the death spiral can begin again… What a jerk.

I’ll save him the trouble: Mac users are a bunch of stupid homos, right man? Isn’t that the point you made before, and now insist on making again? We’re all ignorant whiners, hysterical fanboys, why don’t we shutup and get a Real Manly Computer like you. Oooh, your specs are so impressive! Your obvious knowledge of Math and Algorithms and stuff! My God, I never realized what an insignificant twerp I am! Thank you, Kosher, for spreading wisdom and understanding in such a selfless way, helping us to see ourselves more clearly.

Not.

So the 3 guys from Skymatter can develop a program faster than the team at Pixologic? Mudbox is now pushing toward version 2. And since their under the Autodesk umbrella, it should go dual platform as well.

Here comes the comic relief!!!
If nothing else this just gives me something to
think about besides not being able to use zapplink.

Thanks for the laugh guys

I want to get LOL in before Aurick locks the thread.
-K

I see another closed Mac/ZB thread coming soon…

Kosher we are very aware of what is involved in writing software, but thank you for your insight on this matter…

But if you then consider Modo, Silo, Vue etc can be developed with an OSX & Windows version with simultaneous release with a similar sized coding team, then you have to kind of understand where we are coming from…

To be honest I don’t care when ZB is ready, I’ve survived 12 months without it, whats another month or two, or three or four???

As for the comparison to Mudbox, I’d say Mudbox is a very basic piece of software compared to ZB. Version 2 may prove to be different if it has painting etc. Although I’d doubt we’ll see a Mac version as 3DSMax isn’t Mac compatible yet that is developed by Autodesk…

All will be cool soon enough people…

You’re right, it’s XP, not XT. Obviously I’m not a Windows user, at least not by choice. Resetting the XP clock didn’t help. Windows insists on resetting my OSX clock so that it’s six hours slow. Malicious coding from Microsoft? I’ve heard rumors.

I don’t like the lack of informations from Pixo, but I have to defend them from malicious comparisons: you can’t compare Mudbox with ZBrush… ZB is far more complex, a really different and original software. There’s a wealth of tips, little secrets and hidden power in the “old” ZB2…
I’m not a programmer, but I suppose that ZB3 porting is not easy at all.

Poly, it’s funny you feel that way. I am actually a Mac user myself. Maybe you should read some of the threads from an objective point of view rather than being so emotional.

All I said before was that you guys seem to be living in glass houses and throwing lots of stones.

EDIT: Now why would ZB close the thread because I am defending their developers? I previously asked that the thread be closed because I got tired of seeing it come up at the top of the Questions and Troubleshooting Forum. When I went in to read some of the comments, I saw nothing but insults and posts that I didn’t think were conducive to the community. If I were ZBrush, I would ban the next person to open a thread like this.

Again, it’s like this: “There are only two kinds of people I hate in this world: Those that are intolerant of other operating systems, and Windows users”. That’s how you guys look to me. I also don’t think insults toward the American presidential candidates or developers is very fair. Just have some damn respect…

I bet ZB can’t wait to be at Siggraph to meet some of its lovely customers… You guys will be the same people complaining day in and day out about bugs in the Mac version after all of that pressuring to get a Mac release.

Ooooooups…

I am here Kosher on my knees begging for pardon and a rightfull punishment for having dared making fun of the pixo developpers… I realise how unsensitive of me, poor engineer who’s forgotten how the rules of mathematics & algorithmics can be dreadfull to the mighty courageous knights of the modern times coding such pretty faces for us…

Most of that thread didn’t fall into the same traps as the previous ones, and is pretty lighthearted… We’re just anxious to see one of our favorite apps being released for our platform, and as there’s no information about release date, our imagination just goes from there and wanders along meaningless yet not mean jokes…

(did I make another joke about the coders… booh! me bad boy… well I guess I’ll just have to say a couple of pater noster before going to bed tonight then…) :o
