Welcome to the forums, Ronbo13!
You do realize that you are allowed to post more than just one comment, so don’t feel you have to cover every single thing all in just your first post. Sheeeesh!
You raise some interesting points, some of which have been raised before by others, and some that, perhaps, haven’t been considered. I also appreciate how you made your points with some respect, and sympathy for our dilemma, which is really all we’ve been asking for to begin with. It’s just that, from our standpoint, which is way in the back of the bus, it’s difficult to see where this situation is headed. Our frustration is to be expected.
Funny, how your post reminded me of the story of Abigail, David, and Nabal.
Ever hear the story? My point being: Sometimes, just a few well-placed words, or some small gesture can turn even an extreme situation around. Not sure why Pixologic thinks total silence is the best solution to handling legitimate customer concerns.
I’m still frustrated, and unhappy with how this problem has been handled so far, but for now, I’m just gonna sit back, wait it out a while longer, and see what happens. Oh, and uh,…peace to you, too.
I think most of your points are probably quite close to the truth but I also think you miss the main point. It’s not the delay or even the missed deadline that are causing the frustration but the lack of communication and honesty.
To my mind there are two styles of development PR that work very well.
First you take the open honest approach used by Luxology (Modo) and Nevercenter (Silo) The developers keep the customers informed much of the time even giving previews of upcoming technology but they make it clear that they are previews and nowhere near ready for release. Everyone says “Yay! Way to go! Can’t wait to use it!” Everyone is excited, no-one expects to get it any time soon and all parties are happy.
When the product is close to release they give more previews, let beta testers talk maybe and give a likely release window.
Everyone says “Holy Moly that’s great, can’t wait to use it!”
Inevitably they miss the release date and they say so.
“Sorry guys we’ve hit some problems you’re not going to get the new version for a while but we;re doing our best. We’re going to keep you in the loop and we’ll get the update to you just as soon as we can”
Everyone is disappointed but appreciates being kept informed. No ill feeling and after an update or two everyone is excited by the upcoming release again.
Second method is the route Maxon (Cinema4d, Bodypaint) take. They NEVER say ANYTHING! Their boffins beaver away behind the scenes in total secrecy until they product is on the DVDs ready for shipping. Then it’s released with a fanfare and everyone is astounded and delighted.
Both models work extremely well, but what if Maxon released their astounding new module to part of their user base and told the other people you have to wait another 6 months. Those users would probably grumble a bit but be OK with it. Then in 6 months what if the update never appeared and what’s more there was no word from Maxon, no apology, no reason, no new release date. Then after another 6 months there still isn’t a word from the developers about what is happening with the update that half of their users have been using for a year. I think Maxon would have some upset users don’t you? That’s if they hadn’t migrated to XSI 6 months previously!
Sorry for the long post!
A long post but a very good one BazC…
Luxology & Nevercenter do it right IMHO, Maxons is also a good approach which is very similar to E-on etc…
Can’t help thinking this is gonna be a Siggraph release if we are lucky, if further ZB releases come at a cost I can’t see myself coughing up the reddies if I’m honest…
Cheers Buckie, I agree, I can’t see us getting any more info before Siggraph now, I just hope we get some good news.
OK Pixologic, this is upsetting. I’m a user on a PC, so have really been trying not to post in this thread, but Buckie was the person who convinced me (and I’m sure others) over on the 3D World forums to buy ZBrush in the first place.
If he is giving up you are losing a strong marketing tool. At least put him amd some other longer standing names on the Beta test programme. You do seem to be shooting yourselves in the feet with so many Mac users feeling so discouraged and betrayed.
Simon
aug 12th…siggraph btw
not that long to tap your toes and drum your fingers to pass the time.
Just doing my regular check-in to see if there’s been any word of ZB 3 for Mac. Nothing I can add except to say I’m another frustrated voice in the wilderness.
Well we’ve waited this long, I guess one more month won’t hurt…
as if there’s really any guarantee we’ll have a Siggraph release…I’d be quite surprised if there’s no announcement, but does that really mean a release per se…?
Absolutely not! I’m expecting a glimpse of new features, hoping for news on the Mac version but not banking on a release in any way. After all this time it has to be a possibility though.
This is what is gonna happen:
At siggraph Pixologic will announce:
Zbrush 4 for PC and Intel Mac, With the release of the PC version immidiately and the Mac release date will be announced Soon ™
DOH
anyone said Deja Vu
hehe
If that’s the case i’ll be more optimistic about a mudbox on osx eventhought that’ll never be as good as ZB with it painting abilities…
I think you’ll find the next version of Mudbox will have a painting system. I’m not so convinced it will ever be released for Mac though.
well at least Autodesk has continued to release Maya on both linux and mac, so hopefully they consider that with mudbox. They have the means to do it i think.
I will say however, that zbrush is still my number one choice - just not version 2
It wouldn’t surprise me at all. Maybe they’ll wait til 2010 to teach all the mac users a lesson for not being nice on this board. That’ll teach us. At that point Windows will be such a good rip off of Leopard we won’t be able to tell the difference between the 2 platforms
not able to tell the difference?
perhaps it will visually be better over the years (windows).
But the leopard is still build around Unix, which by my 2 cents makes it way more stable and better suited for graphic work. windows will never be able to compete with that…
I got my copy of ZBrush 2 licensed on my intel mac as I got fed up of waiting for v3. The email I received back with my license file was very positive that the mac release is on its way. So the question is still ‘when?’ and not ‘if’ thankfully.
You are right that there is no guarantee of the Siggraph release though. But I seriously wish it was true!
Please, tell me they’re not going to dangle the carrot in front of the horse again… Please!
I think he missed one…

Nice catch Chris
