Mac & Zbrush 3 Thread

Haha. Like I need articles and people’s opinions to tell me what I think. That’s probably the number one difference between you and me. Troll on, Troll boy. Here’s one for you though.
Five reasons why Vista beats Mac OS X
(from Preston Gralla Computerworld.com)

Rated -18603370 Votes

The conventional wisdom, that Mac’s OS X is superior to Windows Vista, is flat-out wrong. In fact, despite much belief to the contrary, Vista is a superior operating system. Here are five reasons why.

Reason #1: Vista runs more software

Mac OS X is a very pretty operating system, but beauty runs only skin deep. An operating system by itself is a poor thing – it’s the applications that run on top of it that matter. And here’s where Mac OS X falls short. It can’t run much common software, including enterprise applications and games.

Virtualization software like Parallels Desktop for Mac won’t solve the problem. Parallels can’t run even the most basic Vista games such as FreeCell, Hearts, Pinball, Solitaire and Minesweeper, because it doesn’t support DirectX 9. And virtualization software creates big problems for enterprises with regard to volume licensing, technical support, creating standard enterprisewide images and so on. So it’s no good for running enterprise applications either. Vista beats OS X here, hands down.

Reason #2: Vista is safer

As I’ve written before, Vista is a more secure operating system than Mac OS X. Mac OS X was easier to crack in a recent hacking contest. And security researcher Dino Dai Zovi had this to say about Vista versus Mac OS X when it comes to security:

I have found the code quality, at least in terms of security, to be much better overall in Vista than Mac OS X 10.4. It is obvious from observing affected components in security patches that Microsoft’s Security Development Lifecycle (SDL) has resulted in fewer vulnerabilities in newly-written code.

Reason #3: It’s the money, stupid

If you’re got a lot of extra spare cash laying around that you don’t care about, then by all means, buy a Mac. But if, like most of the world, you’ve got to work for a living, then you’ll find that a Vista machine is far less expensive than a Mac.

Reason #4: The Mac is closed; Vista is open

Any person or company who wants to build a PC with Vista on it, and either sell it, or use it themselves, is perfectly free to do so, as long as they buy the operating system. Try to do that with a Mac, and you’ll be spending some face time with Apple’s attack dog lawyers.

Reason #5: Two words – Steve Jobs

There’s no doubt that Steve Jobs is a master marketer. And he also knows good design. But he’s also vindictive, sends his lawyers after people who report leaked information about Apple products, and has hypnotized Apple users into drinking the true-believer Kool Aid. Don’t reward him by making him richer.

By the way, if you’re interested in a head-to-head death match about whether Vista, XP, Mac OS X, or Linux is the superior operating system, check out OS Smackdown: Linux vs. Mac OS X vs. Windows Vista vs. Windows XP. As you might imagine, I argue for Vista.

You all are so annoying with your Mac vs. PC and Leopard vs. Vista bullcrap. I check here daily hoping for good news related to ZBrush and all I see is you little computer groupies arguing about whos system is better. We’re here because of the application we prefer, not the system we prefer. This should ONLY be about news and discussion on the ZBrush’s release for the Mac.

Now we need another thread for ZBRUSH ON THE MAC because you all keep polluting this one with off topic, over the top nonsense. It’s a shame, because the actual topic pertains to a lot of artists, and there’s really no other place to find related news. With so much immature trash talk, it’s like a bunch of bothersome little children fighting over toys and telling on each other. I can obviously see why Pixologic shut down the other Mac thread, and the first post in this one states why, so read up.

On that note, I give up, and will just check the Pixologic site until the release happens. For now, just keep your eyes peeled for James Thornton in the top row gallery. It might be a while, but I’ll get there d@#%it…

You don’t need articles, but you post one anyway. That makes real sense.
My articles were posted to simply prove my point that there are lots of people that don’t like Vista not just a few mac users as you claimed. I proved that.
My choice is not based on propaganda, but on experience. I use windows and macs at work, and prefer macs. Period.
I don’t get your insane jealousy over the fact mac users love their macs. Get a life, will you?

Sorry guys, I had to say one more thing. Now, I’ll ignore him.

Although I have Kosher on my ignore list, I decided to read one of his posts… until I came onto this part:

Really, Kosher? You must be the most illiterate Mac user (if you could be called that) I know of to make a statement like that. Wake up, it’s 2008.

Guys, just ignore Kosher, and any other troll that comes on the thread. They’re like little kids, they want attention. Just put them on your ignore list, and when he makes a post, you don’t have to read it, meaning you don’t have to reply, which means that he won’t keep blabbing on about random things.

Now, let’s get back to complaining about how long this wait has been…

Anti Microsoft? lol so if I prefer In-N-Out Burger to McDonalds, suddenly I’m anti-McDonalds? I don’t think so. I’ve only been a Mac user for the past few years. I’ve been a loyal PC user for most of my life. Heck, I even dabbled in some programming for Windows in my childhood. I’ve experience the ups and downs of both platforms, and for the types of things I do and my style of use, OSX is simply superior. It fits my needs better. That does not make me anti-Microsoft any more than you coming in here and bitching to all of us for no apparent reason makes you anti-Apple (notice I’ve never made the allegation?)

And you’re right, its not about how long it takes. That’s what I’ve been saying the entire time (then again, I guess I shouldn’t expect you to fully read or comprehend my posts… or not to do so selectively). But it’s also not about this being an OSX release.

It has to do with how Pix has handled the situation. I just want them to acknowledge that we have been waiting for a completely exorbitant amount of time, which does not qualify as “soon” no matter how you cut it, and maybe, if I might be so daring, an apology for the wait. Heck, I think such an apology would be appropriate even if we didn’t already pay up.

And since when was Vista $20? Don’t forget Parallels either. So you’re telling me that Vista + Parallels = $20? Link please…? Also, don’t forget the time investment as well as the HD space it’s taking up. Unless you want to imply that Vista + Parallels + External HD = $20?

Also, you don’t have to listen to anything. Next time, just don’t open this thread. And even if you did have to read, most of what was going on in the thread at the time that polsons jumped in (and for a while prior as well) was speculation, not complaining…

You, sir, need to stop your complaining. Just don’t read this thread. That easy. If you don’t want to read our speculation and harmless thoughts, then take your own advice and sit pretty, because you’ll know whether you read this thread or not when Pix releases Z3 for OSX.

AHHHHH … just put ol’boy K-Dill that likes to drive a ford instead of a cadillac on my ignore list. It feels sooo good already to be done with that guy.

So let’s get this thread back on track guys. Please do as I have and put people that offer nothing to this thread on your ignore list so we can communicate better.

Good suggestion. Putting Mr. “Sour” Dill on my ignore list right now.

Just popped my head in to see if there’s any new info, only to find bullets still flying everywhere. Check back in another week…

HAAAAAAA!

so what’s his face posted the link to the article claiming to articulate the superiority of vista over OSX, well I went and read the article which was a POV piece by four different people, each defending their OS of choice. But the best bit was at the end where readers could vote for which argument they agreed to or ‘bought’ Can you guess which one won? hmmm? results pasted in below.
can you say ‘hoisted on your own petard’?

Okay, so it’s official, Sour Dill and his dual personality, poisons, lie and skew the truth to get attention and create havoc. He probably never owned a mac either. More reasons we should just ignore him.

Could we concentrate on the subject??
Not that there is much to talk about but it’s better than fighting about who’s best and who’s right or wrong.

Don’t feed Kosher.

Please stop feeding him. And he will one day move on.

He also showed me just how much he doesn’t know about MAC and Vista.
He just likes to talk for no other reason but to talk.

Kosher I love you and respect your views that you’ve made so clear to us.

Peace brother!

Now boot up windows and go use Zbrush. This area is for people that do not wish to use windows and are waiting for Zbrush to come out for the mac. We are just venting and that’s healthy for our minds.

Once again plz don’t feed the kosher and if you do give him nothing but pure love and understanding. Remember he uses MS products.

-peace

Remind me what the subject was again…
Was it, “Why we’re all tired of waiting so long without any word from Pixologic?”
Or, was it, “I wonder what we’re gonna get and when exactly we’re gonna get it?”
I’ve forgotten now.

Still no mac Zbrush?.. Still?
Christ on a crutch… WTF?

Yeah, I even almost gave up, and installed it on a windope boot camp partition. That didn’t last long. I deleted the partition within 24 hrs as my macbook was running very very hot, just like it got a fever or something from an infection.

Folks, do not allow things to get personal.

I have just deleted a whole mess of flame war out of this thread. I am not going to close this thread, but if the flaming continues I will start putting temporary bans on the accounts of those who insist on attacking each other.

There is no right side in a forum fight. If you’re fighting publically, you’re both wrong.

Hi Aurick, is there anything, anything, no matter how small, that you can enlighten us with regards to the long wait/progress for the Mac platform?

Thank you.
Jim

Thank you for protecting me, Aurick. You’re the host with the most.
