This has nothing to do with it being a Mac release, or me being a Mac user.
True Mac fanboys are far and few between. Like I said, I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re just a fabrication to make arguing against the rest of us easier. It doesn’t matter what the issue is, it seems like people are always trying to prove us (Mac users) wrong by calling us “fanboys.” It’s like a catch-all.
When you run out of valid arguments (or in cases like this, where you had none to begin with), just call 'em “fanboys.” Works like a charm. lol
“You tell me, do you really think that would work? What are we going to do, threaten to boycott Apple? Please… most of their clientele in the high-end professional market is in film and graphic/web design anyway, where, last I recall, the software stays pretty up to date (FCP, anyone?).”
Oh really? Can you name 1 major studio that uses Mac as their primary platform? I can’t. FCP?? You are totally buying the hype from Apple. You know the majority of large studios use Avid on Windows right? Not in addition to FCP… just Avid. Sure the editors might use it for fun in their extra time but that’s not saying the same thing.
Who cares. The mac has almost always had a minute market share in comparison but that is not the issue here. People just want to use ZB3 on the platform of their choice, no justification required because they paid money up front a year ago to do so (whatever the small print does or doesn’t allude to). Its not unreasonable to expect that some of them will be frustrated. Its worth noting that those not voicing their frustration are most likely happily testing the beta right now
No, the issue is that you purchased a Windows License with the option to switch to a Mac license but you fail to acknowledge it. I’m happy that I have a Vista x64 machine with 4 GB of ram running ZB 3.1. I just purchased a USB ram drive with 4GBs, which Windows uses for additional ram with ReadyBoost. I paid under $1,000 for my computer and it’s a Quad core x64. I might also be able to dual boot Mac OS X and Vista x64 if I use the hacked version of Mac but I don’t really need to use Mac at the moment.
My Mac applications crash more than the PC versions for most everyday use and development on the Mac doesn’t hold a candle to the windows development platform. Even Sony uses Visual Studio to develop for PS3 so whatever.
There are a few considerable reasons that I’ve come to this conclusion, all of which could be wrong…
1- The last time ZBrushers waited on a beta tested point update (2.5), Pixologic released 3.0, which was after months of silence similar to what we’re experiencing (except with a few teaser beta images). I think they’ve been putting a lot of time into a new ZBrush and are ready to reveal “novelties and surprises.” It will be some kind of dual platform update, but I suspect ZB4.
2- From what I understand, they haven’t been charging registered users for any updates. So the Windows users wouldn’t be upset by any means. If they did charge, I doubt Windows users would get mad because the PAID Mac users would’ve missed out on an entire version. It would seem fair.
3- The current Mac users are already upset. They need a solid Mac/Win release that will be easier to update for future versions and users. Rather than releasing a Mac 3.1 in Feb. that would be buggy and hard to update, causing more future delays, they have chosen to optimize ZB as a whole, for both platforms. Since that sums up an email they sent me, it again makes me suspect ZB4.
4- Version 3 got them noticed. They’ve become the standard. They cornered the sculpting side of 3d and they’ve been recognized by 2d artists, such as myself. With expansion comes better development. I bet a lot has been changed and improved to prepare for the competition that is surely on the way. No one likes to lose the first place spot. I doubt, with a lot of changes, it would only be a point update.
P.S. to whom it may concern- Stop complaining about people complaining, it doesn’t make any sense.
Yes. I’ll be happy to see the next release of Windows as well. Vista had its issues with drivers initially but it’s solid now. It always takes time for drivers to pan out with any OS. I am far more productive with Windows these days than I have ever been, hence the time for this forum. I would like to have FCP but my Mac can’t hang … my Vista machine on the other hand… wow, FCP doesn’t run in Vista. Nice, right back to why I think this is so ridiculous.
No wonder why Apple is on One Infinite Loop Way… When you start talking to people about it you get stuck in a loop but they still don’t seem to get it.
And once again…here’s the first post in this thread.^^^^^^^^^
It would be greatly appreciated if you all started a website that was Mac vs. PC related, so you could go there and fight about it. As someone who ZBrushes for hours daily in bootcamp while anxious for a Mac release, I’m sick of this off-topic bickering in a place where valuable info gets posted from time to time. This is an awkward thread to have such arguments. It too, just doesn’t make any sense. So post something related to a ZBrush update on the Mac, or go debate your arguments in a thread related to that subject matter. It’s just weird to fight about it here…
Koshee, so it’s OK to attack the community not the individual, is that what you are saying?
Maybe your OLD mind should retire and leave this community. It’s obvious no one even likes you or appreciates your insults and slurs. GO AWAY! Go tell Moomy now OK?
Exactly. This is like driving up to a bus stop at rush hour in your Land Rover, pointing and laughing at everybody waiting for the bus, instead of just driving home. Now the only reason I can imagine why some dork in a Land Rover would make fun of people waiting for the bus is because he paid too much for it, he wishes he hadn’t bought it, and just needs to feel secure in his purchase. Otherwise he wouldn’t be making fun.
No absolutely wrong. I pre-bought a mac licence and took up the OPTIONAL option of temporarily converting it to a windows license until the mac version is finished. This is how it was sold to me and I bought it under these terms. If for any reason I was unable to choose to take up the temporary platform swap I would not have been able to run ZBrush 3. ZBrush 2 does not play well on intel macs so I would have been left without a vital tool, which is why I did what was suggested and shelled out for windows. Stop working your ticket, it is a pointless excercise.
For an individual Macintosh license issued to a single user. This license allows one user to install and activate ZBrush. “ZBrush Mac users can receive a free license transfer to the PC which they can redeem for a Mac version when ZBrush 3 is released for that platform.”
Mac license with Free PC license with free transfer to Mac “when it’s released”. That’s what you paid for. What’s so hard to understand? You purchased a product that was not released, not given a release date, and soon can be around a year (give or take a few months).
Now when it comes out, you can get the Mac license and activate ZBrush. So first you will have to deactivate your windows license see? If you buy it now, you get a Mac license that transfers to a windows license for free… Then when you get the Mac version you get to transfer the Mac license. The Mac license is the one that goes on Windows and the Windows License goes to the Mac when it’s released. Mac is not Windows, Windows is not Mac. Just want to be sure you understood what was going on there and then…
