LOL!
How does Zapp Link work with bootcamp or do you have to have Windows version of Photoshop?
j
That’s one of the features I haven’t tried to use. I just export different render passes, reboot, then composite and edit in Mac PS CS3. I work a lot differently than most ZB artists because I compose 3D tools through 2.5D illustration. Don’t quote me on it, but I think that it requires you to have Photoshop on the same OS. From what I understand, it’s a hell of a plugin that I need to learn. I’d like to know if it works as well. Anyone have any input???
well it’s good to see their web designer stays on top of things. every time i come to the pixologic home page there is a new flash add. never the one i want to really see like “Z3 For Mac Is Here!!!” it is always “check out this bad ass art artists are creating with Z3!!!” lame. maybe they can get the web developer in on the beta testing to speed things up a bit. or teach him how to develop. less Flash more Z!!!
apparently zaplink will work with photoshop elements so you could use a windows pshop elements to zaplink and save yourself from splashing out on a FULL copy of pshop.
just count down to siggraph 2008…it’s not that far away now!
If ZB4 comes out I consider buying a new iMac. But I don’t know how much ram fits into the current models. I know 4 gig should be enough but I wonder if 8 or 16 gig would be hardware supported ??? I’m still on one of those 17 inch, 32-bit snails …
Counting down for what? I doubt they’re going to release a Mac ZB update. By any chance if they are waiting to release it then that would just be wrong because Mac users have been waiting this long and to just hold things off for their own benefit would be really messed up. If it’s done and they are just waiting for Siggraph for some exposure, they should release the Mac update now. If they released before Siggraph what would be stopping them from still showing it there?
as stated elsewhere the mac version is not ready ‘yet’ for release but siggraph is THE ideal place to showcase what WILL BE in the next update to zbrush
it’s all about marketing and getting your product in ‘view’, siggraph is traditionally the place to announce new versions of 3d/fx apps then the product ususally ships afterward by either a few days or months [max was usualyy show at siggraph and shipped in october same year for example.
it’s been this way for around 10years… get used to it!
Yep! Simple as spending extra dosh.
Still. Thanks for that. I’d no idea the cost of the OS could vary so much. I’ve suddenly got more pressing things to spend my money on. So, I think I’ll hang at the Bus stop a little longer.
Besides. The ‘Novelties and surprises’ James is hinting at. Might be: A free copy of vista and an external HD with ZBrush logo. For the Mac users
Haha! That would be a swift kick in the privates!
It’s not just going to be a Mac release. There’s no way. My personal prediction is that it’ll be a brand new, dual platform version. If it’s a big step up, in other words -ZBrush 4, that would be the obvious place to stir up excitement about it. All things considered, it could be in their best interest business wise, which sucks for us. I bet it’s going to be bad@$$, though.
I would settle for native z3.2 for mac. that would be great! I’m smiling cause I cant wait to be happy!
“Bueller? Bueller?.. Bueller?.. Bueller?”
Dual platform would be great, but I have no idea what they’ll do at this point in the game. Z4 sounds good, but problematic for the following reasons: If they came out with ZBrush 4 for both platforms, would only mac users get it as a free upgrade because we never got our free Z3? Then the windows users would cry foul. If they come out with ZBrush 4 for both PC and Mac as a paid upgrade, then mac users would be upset because they waited for over a year with no news for a free upgrade they never got. Would they give mac users who already owned Z2 a discount on the upgrade to Z4 to offset the lack of a Z3 for the mac? They sure couldn’t give ZBrush 4 away to all customers as a free upgrade. I would think a point upgrade of Zbrush 3 for both platforms sounds more likely, but, who knows what Pixo has up their sleeve. My two cents, anyway.
I’m always amazed how Mac users bitch and moan on developer’s forums, but never bitch and moan to Apple about Apple’s arrogance of OS X development.
3rd party developers don’t have access to Steve Job’s magic wand and mystical potions, so every release of OS X brings major development costs and headaches which Apple just expects 3rd party developers to resolve overnight. If it takes Adobe - with it’s unlimited developer resources - nearly 2 years to rehash Photoshop with ever new release of OS X, I think Pixologic has done extremely well to have all but completed what is thought to be an entire rewrite of ZB in the same time frame. Especially on a platform for which they will never recover their development costs.
Bottom line is… if ZB3 is essential to your needs then get a job, earn some money, and buy a PC. If you’re not willing to do so, then obviously you are willing to wait until Pixologic releases ZB3 for Mac, whether that is this year, next year, or in 5 years time. So stop whinging and whining - on this and other 3rd party developer forums - before every Mac version from every developer becomes a free copy of Vista with every PC version for Mac sold.
Hey, poisons, you sound very much like someone else we know.
Not that it’s any of your business, but at the moment, we were simply speculating, not complaining. That’s what we do in this thread, because news is so rare. Now, why don’t you just go play with your Zbrush 3 and leave us alone like a good little boy.
Well, you see, we paid money for a product that was supposed to come out “soon.” “Soon” lasted for over a year. Sure, Apple’s not the friendliest to its developers. However, this is no excuse for failing to meet valid expectations. As far as Pix recovering their dev costs… well, perhaps they won’t recover any more than they already have. I just wonder if I’ll ever recover my investment with the productivity I paid for a year ago.
If it was simply that Pix was dropping Mac support, and nobody paid anything, you’d have a point. But as it stands, your arguments hold no water.
We are fully within our rights to complain as much as we like until we get what we paid for. But that doesn’t really matter because a lot of us are not, in fact, complaining, and have made light of the situation (or as Webhead points out, are just speculating).
And yeah, actually, a lot of Mac users DO complain about Apple. You should hear some of the complaints against them over at MacNN. It always amazes me how so many people bitch and moan about Mac users, no matter what we have to say…
Bottom line: if electing by your own free will to read a thread (that has no impact on you) and make a fuss about some peoples’ legitimate dissatisfaction is essential to your needs, then you should get a job. If you are not willing to do so, then obviously you are willing to hold your tongue and mosey on over back to your little sandbox. Mmkay, pumpkin?
Thank you loki, for responding with humor and wit. My first impulse was something far less clever but that would have been stooping to someone else’s level.
Now, where were we? did i mention that I have ZB3.1 on a window’s vista machine at home so I have to crawl under my desck to swith monitors and keyboards and tablets from my mac to the PC every time I need to wotk in Z3. Yes I know there are better solutions than crawing under the desk but just like everyone else I have been expecting the release ‘any day now’ and so have not committed to a more permanent solution because once I have Z3 for the mac it will be adios for the pc. I am making due but I have to tell you that it takes all the joy out of Zbrush, all this crawling under the desk nonsense. I can’t wait.
This is not a PC v Mac flame answer but please have some perspective -
I wonder how you’d feel if you paid a large amount of money for something which still hadn’t been delivered a year later. And this, not forgetting, after a similar debacle with ZB2. Bottom line is, we all pay the same and as such all expect an equal service - nothing more, just equal.
Let me say now that I am in support of Pixologic here because they haven’t asked me for a penny since v1.55 - that is astounding and makes my patience go a long way, but it is still frustrating all the same. If you’re a PC user you should be forced into having to boot into Os X just to see how frustrating it is. You will no doubt find the OS stupid, backward and alien compared to the one you know and love. The frustration will be further compounded by the fact that you have a horribly tight deadline from clients who don’t give a fig about the intricacies of how you create a piece, just so long as you do it yesterday.
In another world I use an amazing app which is mac only and the amount of insults heaped upon the developers by (you guessed it) non mac users is simply hilarious. Everybody moans when they don’t get what they want not just mac users.
At the moment some users are more equal than others. That apparently is being resolved now so the situation never arises again, but in the meantime, I think as long as people do not start throwing personal insults at the hard working Pixo team, people should be allowed to vent their frustration and let Pixo know they are desperate to get their grubby little hands on a fine bit of kit. If you don’t agree then you can of course simply ignore this thread and go create something with ZBrush 3.1 and various plugins that have been subsequently released on PC
