I’m not sure why you think ZB2 can’t do bipeds but if you want a conventional modeller for free grab yourself a copy of Wings3d (www.wings3d.com) it’s one of the best modellers available especially for organics and it’s open source. Got a decent UV mapping sytem too. Model your base mesh in wings and import to ZB2 for detailing! Only one drawback with Wings, it doesn’t work very well with a tablet
Agreed, I must just be an Apple groupie. With the introduction of MobileMe, they could make it a 4gb machine with a fast proccessor. Except with a smaller hard drive and no cd/dvd drive, given the ability to save and access files from your desktop wherever you go. The Modbook is strictly designed for art, though, so yeah. Unfortunately, bluetooth quit working on it with the Leopard update, but it’s still a very solid machine. Hoping for a Modbook Pro this January…not gonna happen though, they’re barely keeping up as is…
well tomorrow another monday is here. for the past 30 or so Monday’s i have prayed that pixologic was pulling all nighters all weekend to get the z3 release for mac out on Monday. will tomorrow be this monday? god i hope so. if not we all need to band together and storm their LA studio. or at least we all call it and make their phones ring off the hook. 888-748-5967. come on guys, throw us a bone. acknowlege our existence at least.
Ahhh let’s not harass them, it won’t help and they already know how antsy we are to get it. Calling them and rioting will only slow down the process. It’s obvious that they are simply remaining quiet until it’s released. It seems they feel it’s counter productive to spend time explaining the delay in the forum because people only read the last pages and there efforts become lost. I do, however, like the idea someone had of a ‘sticky’ thread where only they can post updates for us. Otherwise, there’s nothing we can do but patiently wait.
Something tells me they are not even going to be releasing a Mac version and they are not saying anything because if they do they will have to deal with refunds. Why do you think they never had an “Official” mac news thread…
Corporate policy.
Does anyone actually think our little complaint thread is actually reaching programmer’s ears? In the old thread (back in February) Aurick would give semi regular updates. Mind you the jist of those messages consisted of unfulfilled release dates, (Early 2008, Late February, March 1st? That was four months ago, dude.) but lately it’s like he doesn’t even want to talk to us.
I almost gave in to the PC license schpeal this morning, but after weighing my options I’m back to waiting. I have a 3 year old PC that’s had a LOT of issues. It’s gone back to the factory four times, and every time it comes back it’s got a basket full of issues. And I swear they did something to the RAM. It was built with 3 gigs included, but there must’ve been a technician with slippery fingers, because it runs slower than my 2 gig MBP. It’s error ridden, the optical drive doesn’t work, the Y key doesn’t work (which is my most used shortcut in Maya) and on top of everything I absolutely refuse to install my Cintiq on it (I’m afraid it’s contagious). On the other hand my Apple works perfectly. I’ve had it for 18 months, and I haven’t had a single problem. It runs beautifully. In fact I’m pinching my pennies so I can buy a Mac Pro within the next couple of months.
Now Pixologic, explain to me why I need to buy a PC, an OS emulator, or extra RAM to run ONE program? Especially for a program that I’ve already paid for? You guys are really, REALLY alienating your MAC user base. I’m totally fine with it if you guys are busy working all the kinks out, to make a better product, but just TELL US THAT. Some Mac users are just under the impression that ZBrush 3 for Mac has been scrapped, because Pixologic to User communication has dried up, the last time we got a speculative release date was early spring, and user support e-mails regarding the Mac release are cookie cutter repetitive at best.
I guess you can just call this a rant, or an open letter, but WOW, am I peeved at the lack of interest that Pixologic has expressed in it’s Mac base.
Let’s hope this is not true.
Something has just dawned on me, The public release of the new Zbrush Training books is set for the 19th June (according to the website I get my books from) could this be a hint to a release of the Mac version??? I’m not getting my hopes up but its a possibility isn’t it?
I thought these were out now and had asked in a previous message if anyonbe had looked thru them. If, as you state, they will just be hitting the shelves on the 19th, this would eliminate my past statements concerning… a publisher doesn’t release old data during a new product release!!..normally.
It may well be the case that Pixo has these books out themselves but a general release is the 19th, I am literally going by what I saw on the site I generally buy books from (purely because I dont want to get a credit card and this is the only site that accepts the card that I actually have) so your previous comments Don may well still stand, Just thought it was interesting, if anyone knows any different do tell.
The books seem to be available from Amazon. Looking thru the index and other pages I see nothing to reflect NEW. Certainly looks very helpful, but surprised that if they are so close, that after all this time they, the publisher, would not wait another month or so. Thus my continued belief that we will not see a OSX, and ceratinly not a PPC version.
I do believe that someone in this group had stated that they looked thru the book at a store recently.
I have written the COO, as one COO to another, as well as the other two principles in the company, and presented my viewpoint as one exec. to another. I would like to think that even if they are not prepared to introduce new information, they will provide me the corp courtesy of at least a PR reply.
I bet you get the standard reply “it is almost ready” “w are finalizing beta testing” “yaddah yaddah” that everyone else has gotten.
and then nothing happens…
Am quite interested to see what they say.
I think a class action lawsuit to get our money back is reasonable & probably quite winnable.
I suggest a horse head in the bed, like in the Godfather!
Lads, I’ve been playing around with the modo demo instead of twiddling thumbs doing something else while waiting on ZB for mac. I do like the modo 3d sculpting tools and everything seems nicely laid out. Luxology obviously have a different way of organic modelling and there seems to be the added advantage that its more a full 3d modelling app with animation, cameras, etc. 3d projection painting nice too. Aside from all that i continue to wait patiently for the pixo pixies to finish in their workshop
Oh you mean…
Maybe the delay is down to Zbrush being bought by a biggy hmm a bit like what happened to Mudbox?
Although thinking about it I doubt it.
