Mac & Zbrush 3 Thread

Awesome, the ZNazi!!!

I wonder why…

That would be hilarious if Apple ended up buying Pixologic and they trashed the windows version of ZBrush, similar to what they did with Shake.

While a good portion designers and artists use Macs, the 3d world mainly uses PCs amongst proffessional environments. It’s the 3d industry standard, but it’s another one of those gaps that will eventually close. In other words, those that are already heavily involved in 3d, which are bound to be the largest Zbrush customer base, are most likely on PC and already own a license.

ROTFLMAO… :+1:

Why bring Apple into this? Apple can’t force Pixologic, to communicate properly with it’s customers.

Apple has nothing to say here. Pixologic have our money. And Pixologic have recited the mantra of ‘coming soon’. For best part of a year now. So lets, please, keep it focused; on getting Pixologic to level with us a little bit.

What happened to that petition? Any more takers?

SantoAnderson’s last post really says it all.

This whole situation just rubs me the wrong way.

I think it moved.jpg

This was supposed to be the summer of Mac - The summer of Mac!

Well, I don’t mean to open some kind of debate, or controversy on that, but pixo didn’t actually open any kind of path… Apple did with bootcamp & through going for intel chips… Pixo made the best of it to make people wait… They’ve just eased-up a policy that states that if you want to switch platform, then you should pay for another license… (and by the way, there’s just a few dinosaur company left that use such policy, all the others consider that a license is a license, the platform has nothing to do with that…)

But then, what else can we do about it…

Maybe we should camp outside the pixo labs. We could all bring tents and our mac’s and just sit there like birds on a wire. Just looking at them as they go in and out of the building. Keep it nice and mac spooky like.

(O.0)

Could be fun… I’ve never been to California… However if I were to go there, camping out pixo might not be top of my list of things to do in California…

I wanted to talk about something else.

I think it’s funny that zbrush 3.1 has a more of a OS X like interface but isn’t out for os x yet.

I just find that… odd.

Thats all I wanted to say.

peace

“I think it moved…”

Pixologic should change name to Soon™

I can’t use windows products. So thats why I keep checking back ever 5 min to see if zbrush for os x came out yet. It’s in the works and will be out soon…

Soon.

SOon could mean in 5 min or 13 months.

So I’ll keep checking every 5 min…

:stuck_out_tongue:

Mua hahaha
or RandomMagic™ Inc.

For those being twerped about some tablet by Dell,
there’s been one shipping based on OS X for a while
and it’s got a real WACOM sensor:

http://www.axiotron.com/index.php?id=modbook

looks a lot cooler to me than a ‘DULL’…

Running Windows on OS X is a BAND-AID approach,
a virus, malware prone one at that - it’s not a solution.
I fart in the general direction of anyone who postulates
it otherwise.

Anyway, who knows what they’ll do. I’m still hoping
for a 3.x version prior to Siggraph. My panties are
twisted enough, any more conjecturing and I’ll
lose a leg (or worse, ouch!).

“Letting” Mac users operate ZBrush on windows is no solution for me at all, I have better things to spend the 200+ bux on Vista (and downgrading to XP). Things like, oh, programs that are released on both Mac and Windows platforms without this “artificial” separation that Pix has forced on us for the past several years.

I can do everything in Modo that I needed ZB for. And you know what, on their forums there’s no Mac or Windows bashing. Hmm… treat all your customers the same, and they will treat each other well.

In all honesty, I’ve given up on ZBrush and Pixologic. Which is very sad, but all this Mac-bashing and Windows-Insults can be traced right to how this company treats each platform. Mac users are the red-haired step children of Pixologic, and I find it inconceivable that after the snafu of 2.0, that history is once again repeating itself.

Except without the multitouch feature. Apple’s Mac tablet will be like a 12"+ iPhone that’s actually a Mac with the newest tech plus multitouch while still penabled. Not to discourage people from the Modbook, it’s WAY cooler than a ‘DULL’ for any artist. It’s pretty much a portable Wacom Cintiq Mac with the pressure sensitivity cut in half (no big deal).

…that’s hilarious!..even though I run Zbrush with windows on a Mac…(puts on gasmask)…not a solution for all by any means…(breaks out the febreeze)…it works for me, although rebooting takes 5 minutes which sucks…(eats taco bell, deviled eggs, and beans all in the same meal for retaliation)…

How about biped character creation? I have Modo 202 and was pretty far along in my training before I bailed on it because I had yet to learn anything about biped character modeling, and when I saw ZB3 advertised it looked like a better way to that end. The upgrade price for Modo 301 was so high I decided to go with ZB3 instead and am regretting that choice.

So now I’m wondering if I could create my characters in Modo 202? The app seemed overly complex to me, too many tools and methods for my aging brain to remember. Maybe I sould give it another try. T’would be better than nothing.

But I absolutely will not buy the Modo upgrade. I’m sick and tired of shelling out huge amounts of money to these @%$# software companies.

“Stop buying software!” is my new mantra.

I can’t really think of much benefit in my workflow
for multitouch - it’s a neat feature and I’m sure it
could add some value, but not on the same
level as a portable all-in-one cintiq. As far as a
comparison against a potential tablet Mac, I’d be
leary of performance characteristics- a tablet
Mac would likely be paired down on the feature
and expansion side to accommodate the form factor.
Things like RAM expansion, CPU speed, and USB/FW
jacks come to mind as deal breakers to me.
This will pivot on the amount of production power
you need of course, but I think it will discourage it’s
adoption from the pro market for serious use.

The Cintiq is cool, I had one of the 21" models for
a couple weeks- but it’s inconveniences outweighed
it’s benefits. #1 issue for me is that it’s run off via.
DVI/VGA which equates to having to either unplug
one of my displays or get a new card for it, and
this enormously unwieldy cable kludge (which by
the way they don’t show in their ads) – #2 the sheer
footprint and weight of this device is hard to fathom
and even harder to manage if you have a desk space
shortage. All that being said, it was amazing. Sure it
weighs a ton and dominates your desk, but if drawing
is the killer application for you there’s no other
experience like it. So I gave it up after a couple weeks
and am back to my 12x9. I use the 5-button mouse way
too much in CS, AE, Maya etc. to live without + I can
get away with taping different types of paper on top
of my tablet to simulate drawing on physical media.
I guess it’s still not natural sketching on plastic to me.

Besides having to buy/install/maintain another OS on
top of my not-broken OS is the fact that it carries a
significant hassle-weight in my workflow. The types
of processes’ that we do are complicated, and being
able to cut out layers of habit change are crucial in
maintaining working inertia and focus. I could bounce
between Maya/zBrush/Photoshop/AI etc. a dozen
times in an hour easy depending on the dev stage
I’m at, and having to think Windows, then think Mac,
manage files between the two–it’s not that it’s hard,
but that it’s another level of thought, unintuitive, and
as well, it’s one I know really shouldn’t be there–
I suppose that has an effect too…
